High Grade Green Tea Transmigrates into a Pitiful Little Girl - Chapter 18
Lin Feilu had seen a lot of pretty faces in her life. Not even mentioning the ones from her previous life, just the ones she had seen ever since she came to the Great Lin Dynasty was already plenty. In the Imperial Harem, even the palace maids all looked beautiful, let alone the concubines and princes.
As a hardcore pretty boy enthusiast, her vision had been highly trained. But she was still amazed by this young boy who only looked like he was 11 or 12 years old.
It was as if when the Goddess Nuwa1 created human beings, everyone else was made by merely throwing yellow mud around. But he was held carefully in her hand, moulded and sculpted carefully. Not an inch too long, not an inch too short, handsome but not feminine, humble but still elegant.
The bamboo shadows danced as the light fell on him in various shades. Like the moon in the sky and snow among men2, he didn’t look like he was a real person.
She had once read a poem by Su Shi3 that said, “Young Master is only seen in paintings, only I know how he is. Writing about his beauty will take until the whole sky is filled, and all the ink runs. He is certainly not a man that comes from among this dust3.”
She felt that every word there was appropriate for this occasion.
The little boy already had this kind of appearance at such a young age. When he grew up, his facial features will develop even more. When that time comes, wouldn’t it mess up the hearts of girls all over the world?
His charm had already muddled this Third Princess Lin Xi.
Facing Lin Xi’s aggressiveness, the young man did not lose his composure; he was neither angry nor irritated. There was instead a smile on his face, betraying a calmness beyond his age. Softly, he said, “Playing on the lake is not a big deal. However, my cold has not healed yet; I’m afraid that I might pass the sickness to the Third Princess. You’ve only just recovered too; you can’t stand to get sick again.”
It was a refusal, but it also revealed his care for her. As expected, Lin Xi suddenly withdrew her temper and somewhat happily asked, “Are you worried about me?”
Song Jinglan smiled slightly, “Of course. The bamboo forest is very windy, Princess should take care of your health. Why don’t you go back first for now?”
With just two or three words from him, Lin Xi was easily subdued. She took her maid and turned around to leave, but only then she happened to see Lin Feilu, who was looking at them. Thinking back to how she got sick before, she immediately sneered. “What bad luck! No matter where I go, I always seem to run into this evil spirit.”
Lin Feilu withdrew her gaze and timidly hid behind Lin Jingyuan, holding the corner of his clothes, not daring to look up.
Lin Jingyuan immediately flew into a rage. He pointed at Lin Xi and cursed, “Eldest Sister spoiled you! You dared to behave like this in front of me now?! Try and repeat it, and I won’t spare you!”
Lin Xi didn’t expect that he would defend Lin Feilu. Although she’s used to being domineering, compared to Lin Jingyuan, it was like a cat meeting a tiger. In the first place, her Fourth Royal Brother had never usually treated her well. Now he even scolded her, so she felt furious and aggrieved, and she ran away crying.
Lin Jingyuan gave a heavy snort, then turned around and stroked the little twintails on Lin Feilu’s head. “Don’t be scared.”
Lin Feilu raised her small face, her eyes blinking, filled with undisguised worship and trust.
Seeing her gaze made Lin Jingyuan’s blood boil. He almost floated to the sky, clenching his fists and swearing in his heart. I will protect Little Sister Xiaolu!
With the farce over, Song Jinglan also led his little servant back to Cuizhu Lodge. Before he left, he smiled gently and slightly nodded towards the two, then went back in a relaxed manner. The sea of bamboo reflected a green shadow on his back figure; it looked exceptionally calm and elegant.
Lin Feilu asked in a low voice, “Brother Jingyuan, who is he?”
Lin Jingyuan walked forward and casually said, “You don’t know him? He is the tributary prince4 sent by the Song Kingdom five years ago. His name is Song Jinglan.”
Lin Feilu’s current understanding of this era was limited to the Great Lin Dynasty. Hearing him say that, she took the opportunity to pretend that she didn’t understand anything and said, “What is a tributary prince?”
For the first time in his life, the Fourth Prince who lacked in studies and skills felt a sense of accomplishment in his knowledge. He cleared his throat and happily explained to his little royal sister.
T/N:
1. The Primordial Goddess of Creation in Chinese Myth, often depicted with a snake lower body. She created humans from yellow mud/clay.
2. Seems to be an actual poem in Chinese
3. Another real poem, this time from the famed poet Su Dongpo, also called Su Shi. I did a very liberal translation of the poem to convey its meaning as best as possible rather than the actual syntax. It’s a poem to extol the beauty of a young man.
4. A political hostage, a prince, sent to another country to say “hey I sent you my prince as a hostage so you know I’m not gonna do anything funny”. The term tributary prince is usually used for a tributary country. This nation acknowledges another country’s rule over them. It isn’t precisely the relation the Song Empire has with the Great Lin Dynasty, but I think the term fits well enough in this context.
