My Princess Has Been Reborn - Chapter 86.1 – Like An Arrow Flying Home
Chapter 86.1 – Like An Arrow Flying Home
Night in Hequ County was pretty quiet. It was not the kind of quiet that came from a curfew, but the kind of quiet from a whole county that had fallen asleep, without the hustle and bustle of night life.
Lu Qipei and Qi Bo walked on the street, not in the same hurry as when they came earlier. On the way back, they were much calmer.
There was a cool night breeze blowing in early summer, and you could see the bright stars in the sky when you look up. Everything said that tomorrow would have a fine sunny weather, subconsciously making people relax.
After walking quietly in the dark for a long time, they could see the outline of the county government building from afar.
Qi Bo finally couldn’t help but ask, “What was the meaning of that sentence that Young Lord said when you met everyone today?”
Lu Qipei relaxed her shoulders and looked up at the starry sky above, and didn’t lower her head when she heard the words. “Qi Bo, do you still not understand?”
Qi Bo was silent when he heard those words. He slowly stopped, and his gaze at Lu Qipei turned more solemn, but Lu Qipei seemed fearless. After noticing that Qi Bo’s footsteps had stopped, she finally stopped as well and looked back.
In the night, the two people looked at each other. Only a bright moon was in the sky, shining down cold moonlight, making it hard to quickly see the expressions hidden in the dark.
After a long time, Qi Bo finally spoke again with a bit of astringency in his voice, ” Young Lord, do you know what you’re doing?”
Lu Qipei narrowed her eyes and said in a flat tone, “Naturally.”
When her voice fell, she felt her throat tighten as thin old hands squeezed her slender neck. Qi Bo’s movements were very fast. Although his hands were old, they were not weak. It seemed as if he could break her slender neck in the next instant.
But Lu Qipei did not panic. She opened her eyes and kept looking at Qi Bo, watching the indignant anger in his eyes.
Seconds and minutes passed by, but those old hands never tightened their grip. In the end, his graze gradually dimmed as Qi Bo released her. “Young Lord, you know that your choice is tantamount to betrayal!”
Her neck was released, but there was still a slight discomfort in her throat. Lu Qipei wanted to cough but held it back. She stood with her hands on her back, still with that calm look. “What am I betraying? Family grudge? Or is it ambitions?”
Qi Bo looked at her as his turbulent mood gradually calmed down. He asked in a hoarse voice, “What does the Young Lord think?”
Lu Qipei suddenly chuckled when she heard that, saying, “See, you still call me Young Lord. Since there’s a Young Lord, there’s naturally also a Lord above it. You still acknowledge the Young Lord who chooses betrayal, which is enough to prove that the so-called Lord is not that important.”
Qi Bo stopped talking, seeming like he had tacitly agreed to something, but he still stubbornly waited for an explanation.
Lu Qipei also chose to be straightforward. She casually pointed at the surrounding houses and said, “Qi Bo, look. What’s wrong with this peaceful and prosperous world?” As she said that, she pointed back and forth between the two of them. “Or, what’s wrong with our life now? What urges you to destroy this? Is it resentment? But in the world, the winner has always been king, and the loser will be the villain. Since you have chosen to fight, what is there to resent?”
Qi Bo obviously could not be moved by her words. There were thousands of Dao in the world, and there were many people far more eloquent that Lu Qipei. But those great Daos were just words spoken by people who did not matter. Only when the knife fell on you would you be able to feel the pain.
Looking at his indifferent appearance, Lu Qipei knew that it was impossible for Qi Bo to change his attitude just because of her words. So, she suddenly changed her direction. “No matter what Qi Bo want, or what you people all want, I don’t want to participate in this useless fight.”
Only then did Qi Bo open his mouth with a sneer, “You came to meet those talents together with me, but it was all just to draw them all out!”
Lu Qipei did not deny it. She nodded calmly, “So, Qi Bo, are you going to kill me?”
As soon as those words came out, the air seemed to stagnate again. The originally cold night wind seemed to have turned slightly chillier.
Lu Qipei hid her hands behind her back, clenching her fists then releasing them again. In truth, she wasn’t as nervous as she expected. After all, Qi Bo had chosen to stop when he was furious earlier, so it didn’t make sense for him to try killing her again just because of some words.
Sure enough, Qi Bo didn’t move. He looked at Lu Qipei, his eyebrows tightened.
Lu Qipei gradually lost interest in talking. She turned around and walked in the direction of the county government building. After only two steps, Qi Bo said behind her, “Young Lord has studied the teachings of the sages ever since you were young, and you like to talk about the Dao with me. Then let me ask the Young Lord, as a child, it would be unfilial to disobey your parents. As a… daughter, can you feel at ease doing this?”
Hearing this, Lu Qipei couldn’t help but chuckle. She didn’t look back and said, “My mother has passed away long ago. As for him, he didn’t give birth to me or raise me. Why should I care about him!?”
What’s more, she already paid him back the life she owed in her past life.
Her voice fell in the night wind, as the person herself had already entered the county government office, leaving the old man standing outside for half the night.
