Counting the Night of Blazing Flame (5)
That day, Chizuru spent the entire morning feeling anxious and restless.
She knew why she was feeling this way…
It was because of what Arde had suggested to her this morning.
At first, Chizuru honestly thought it might be a great idea.
A child with Lukrov….. They would definitely be incredibly cute, that’s for sure.
It seemed a bit early for Chizuru, who had just turned 20, to have a child. However, by the standards of this world, it was probably a bit late. Nevertheless, Lukrov was already at a good age. Roan, who was around Lukrov’s age, already had three children! And his oldest son would soon become a knight apprentice.
With a duke’s title to inherit and a large estate, as well as a castle, it would be natural that Lukrov would be looking forward to the arrival of his successor.
The two of them hadn’t talked about it yet, but he didn’t show any signs of being opposed to it.
It’s just that they haven’t discussed it in depth as a serious matter.
Children…..Chizuru loved children.
Even now, she was playing with them in a kind of nursery where the children of the castle gathered. The servants were hesitant to give Chizuru any hard work as she was now the wife of the lord of the castle, so she didn’t do much that she could claim to be “working”, but she still played with them every day, taught them numbers, and did whatever she could…..
(A baby with Lukrov…) Once she started to think about it, she couldn’t stop imagining what it would be like.
The baby would probably have black hair, for sure, and big round black eyes. The overall appearance would be what they call “half” back in Japan, as well as being plump and soft…
But at the same time, she realized one fact.
Whenever Lukrov held Chizuru, he had never used contraception, and of course, Chizuru had never done so either. In the first place, there was no convenient medical product like the birth control pill in this world, and there were no other means, as far as she knew.
But after all this time, she had never gotten pregnant.
The first time she was summoned to this world, and the second time now, she had been held in his arms countless times. Every night – sometimes even while the sun was still in the sky – Lukrov had released his seeds deep inside Chizuru. And yet, she had never conceived.
“Chizuru-sama, what’s wrong? You have a difficult look on your face.”
Suddenly, a small shadow appeared in front of her, and Chizuru snapped back to her senses.
A cute, seven-year-old Noah was looking up at Chizuru curiously. She had always thought of her as a child, but recently she had become much more like a young woman, a naughty girl who often showed glimpses of the caring nature similar to her mother, Arde.
Chizuru managed to put a smile on her face.
“I’m fine, I’ve had a lot of fun, so I think I’m a little hungry.”
“Really? I have some baked pastries that my mother made, would you like me to bring them to you?”
Her soft and precocious tone was now overflowing with genuine happiness.
Oh, of course babies were cute, but it must be fun to see your own child grow up and become a reliable person like this.
‘But…’
Chizuru unconsciously placed her hand on her abdomen and patted it idly.
She had her period coming regularly.
Even though she was embraced every night, and they were making love constantly, wasn’t it natural for her to become pregnant? Then, why…..?
* * * *
The day was slowly coming to an end, leaving her in a vague and murky mood.
Moreover, today, She couldn’t see Lukrov at lunchtime, which was unusual. She was told that he was on a patrol outside the castle with the knights, both for training purposes and to inspect the territory.
Chizuru was haunted by even more agonizing thoughts when she was told by Nadal, who had also grown into a young man, that he would be returning to the castle at sunset.
If it had been modern Japan, there would have been plenty of ways to find out more about her condition.
She could go to the library and read some books on this matter, or she could look it up on the Internet, and it may take a bit of courage, but she could even see a specialized doctor.
There must have been a certain time of ovulation when it was easier to conceive…. but Chizuru couldn’t remember the details. At the time she was learning about it, she was not deeply interested in such things.
But now, Chizuru was regretting it.
In this medieval world, was there any way to get reliable information other than mere superstition?
Perhaps she should ask someone with experience – Arde, to be specific – about it.
However, when she recalled her happy blue eyes this morning, she felt it was not proper to make her feel uneasy by talking about this.
There were no other castle residents that she was close to, and although she became friends with Roan’s wife at their wedding, they got along well enough to be able to talk about these matters. But unfortunately, there was no way to get in touch with her due to the distance.
There were no phones here.
Even if she wanted to send her a letter, there was no postal system yet, so she had no choice but to send a live person directly to her on horseback as a messenger. There was no way she was going to ask for advice about pregnancy using this method.
