Your Most Faithful Companion - Chapter 16
The most awkward moment in this world wasn’t when you were seen by your husband partying by yourself in the bathroom, but instead, pretending nothing happened and asking him to hand over your intimate apparel afterward.
This became the reason why they both remained silent on their way to Xixiang on the South Bridge.
In the car, Cen Sen was affected by Ji Mingshu’s actions to the extent that whenever he tried to read his documents, Rapper Ji’s masterpiece reappeared on the papers like the real-time viewer comments flying across the screen.
On the other hand, Ji MIngshu was probably too embarrassed to speak. Facing the window, she had her eyes closed during the entire ride.
When they arrived at Xixiang, the couple who were previously silent in the car reactivated their actor instincts; linking arms naturally while putting on bright smiles, forming the illusion of a couple deeply in love.
Especially Ji Mingshu. Once she knew that they were going to Xixiang, she intentionally picked a plain pink dress that she usually never wore and put on a light lipstick color. Her wavy hair was also temporarily straightened and tied into a ponytail, making her look like a virtuous and fine woman.
Ji Mingshu and Cen Sen got out of the car at the entrance of the lane and walked inwards, holding onto each other’s arm.
Zhou Jiaheng was behind them, carrying gifts. Upon witnessing the couple’s immediate change of action and expression that he hadn’t seen in 2 years, a sense of nostalgia rose inside him.
Ji Mingshu was always a honey-lipped girl in front of the elders. When they arrived at the front door, Ji MIngshu couldn’t wait to greet the elders. “Grandpa, Grandma!” She smiled delightfully upon seeing the family members setting up dishes on the bower.
“Aiyo, Xiaoshu is here!” Grandma Cen also beamed brightly back when she saw Ji MIngshu.
Giving the chopsticks in her hand to the maid, Auntie Zhou, she wiped her hands elegantly before grabbing Ji Mingshu’s hands. “You’re lucky today; I made your favorite braised spareribs!”
“Why did you cook yourself, let me look at you.” Ji Mingshu held onto Grandma Cen’s hands while examining her from head to toe. “How come you got skinnier? I visited you not long ago, are you not feeling well?” She said in a worried tone.
“Don’t worry too much, I feel great! It’s hot these days, so I just took off some clothing; that’s why I look skinnier. What do you call it… that word you young people like to use…visual effect!”
Grandma Cen didn’t appear to be unwell. Her voice sounded clear, and she seemed to be energetic as well. Ji Mingshu finally let out a sigh of relief that carried away some of her worries.
Ji Mingshu had always been a honey-lipped beauty with an optimistic and lively personality, and that led her to be cherished by elders.
Having watched Ji Mingshu grow from childhood, Grandma Cen treated Mingshu as her own granddaughter. When Mingshu married into the household, she was so happy that she couldn’t stop smiling, frequently showing off to others about how perfect her granddaughter-in-law was.
On the other hand, it was Cen Sen, her biological grandson, who spent his childhood separate from her. For all these years, he always had a gentle but a frivolous personality, making Grandma Cen unsure of how to build a closer relationship with him.
She had mixed emotions about him; she liked him, worried about him, and also felt guilty towards him, but there was always an indescribable barrier between them when they interacted.
She wasn’t the only one that felt this way; everyone in the Cen family felt closer to Ji Mingshu than Cen Sen. The younger ones even feared him, watching as he grew to be someone of tremendous ability and make incremental progress as the future head of the Cen family.
When they were eating, his younger cousin accidentally touched Cen Sen’s chopstick while she was trying to reach for the food, immediately apologizing in a panic. The dinner table suddenly became overwhelmed by silence.
Ji Mingshu was also surprised, shifting her glances between the cousin and Cen Sen, wondering if this shitty man committed some monster-like act that the girl feared him so.
