Your Most Faithful Companion - Chapter 18
Cen Sen had been in Australia for the past 2 years, and he didn’t even come back for New Year because he was busy.
As Mrs. Cen, Ji Mingshu had been doing nothing except traveling to different places across the world. If she never visited her husband while he was in Australia, their sweet couple image would soon be broken.
On the other hand, she really didn’t want to actually visit her so-called husband. So after some consideration, she found a photoshop master to help, sending private posts at scheduled times to create an illusion that she occasionally visited Cen Sen in Australia.
This had been going on for 2 years. Even till now, auntie didn’t feel suspicious about the photo although she noticed the speedy growing hair of Cen Sen. Does this indirectly confirm that the photoshop master that she hired was flawless in his skills and worth the money?
Ji Mingshu felt comforting when she thought about this.
The topic that Cen Yingshuang brought up didn’t seem appropriate when the attendees around the table were all either children or elders. Not waiting for Cen Sen to reply, Grandpa Cen said authoritatively, “Keep quiet during meals and nighttime. You’ve read so many books, but how come you’re becoming less and less disciplined? Still behaving like a kid when you’re already thirty years old; no wonder you’re still not married!”
“…?” Cen Yingshuang couldn’t understand.
Wasn’t everyone else chatting endlessly just moments ago? How come it becomes “keep quiet during meals and nighttime” when it came to her? Also, what does this have to do with her still being single at thirty?
Cen Yingshuang didn’t think that she did anything wrong. Opening her mouth ready to argue, Cen Yuanzhao suddenly shot her a look, signaling her to keep her mouth shut.
She never liked to listen to what others say, but she did listen to her older brother, Cen Yuanzhao. Calming herself down, she held in her the speech she prepared.
Because of Grandpa Cen’s words, the last half of the dinner became quiet.
After dinner, Grandpa Cen told Cen Yuanzhao and Cen Sen to chat with him upstairs, leaving all the others in the bower chilling with Grandma Cen.
The conversation between men from 3 different generations lasted until when the stars appeared in the dark sky.
Under the dim light of the night, Ji Mingshu was chatting and laughing with Cen Yingshuang. She overlooked Cen Sen until he walked up the steps of the bower and appeared within the range of her peripheral vision.
As Cen Yingshuang reached the peak of the conversation, she forgot about the forbidden topic of the Cen household and continued chatting, “… I never met a kid who liked to pee on the bed more than you. You probably forgot these things, though. Once, none of your family members were at home, so you came to ours to watch cartoons. You fell asleep while watching and peed on the sofa! As someone obsessed with cleanliness, Cen Yang disliked you so much! He had to take off the sofa sheet and wash it by himself after placing you on the bed. Hahahaha…”
Cen Yingshuang suddenly mentioned “Cen Yang,” and no one had the time to react.
When they finally realized who she was talking about, they noticed Cen Sen stepping up the bower. All of a sudden, everyone felt a chill blow past them.
Ji Mingshu already hinted at Cen Yingshuang with a look when she first started talking about Cen Yang, but Cen Yingshuang was so into the topic that she didn’t notice. Did auntie want to challenge herself in “touching sore spots” after conducting too much biology research? Ji Mingshu thought with a strong suspicion.
–
It was only 8PM when they left Xixiang from the South Bridge, but the night had already turned dark.
Sitting in the backseat, Ji Mingshu felt a sense of discomfort. She turned her head to look outside the window and couldn’t help but to secretly observe Cen Sen’s facial expression from his reflection on the window.
But Cen Sen’s reflection was barely visible as he was leaning back on the car seat. Ji Mingshu also leaned back subconsciously, with her head sticking onto the car seat…
Without any preparation, their eyes suddenly met through the window.
