He was testing her.

“Today’s incident had been set up by someone else,” she said. “The Crown Prince had been lured here. Someone wanted you to witness this scene to drive a wedge between us. Cui Wang, don’t fall for it.”

“I know.”

Cui Wang was silent for a long time. Zheng Wan was just about to realise that something was wrong when he finally spoke. “You wouldn’t be so stupid as to leave me for the crown prince at this time.”

“Cui Wang, what do you mean by that?”

Zheng Wan was stung by the meaning in his words; she widened her eyes fiercely, “Do you still doubt my sincerity?”

“You did not avoid a situation that was likely to arouse suspicion; this is the first reason.”

Cui Wang spoke slowly.

“Even if the Crown Prince had been unkind, you turned around and made use of him. You used his affection for you to manipulate my affection. Such means are overly cold and unfeeling; this is the second reason.

“You speak pleasing words in an artful manner, full of falsehoods; this is the third.”

Zheng Wan fell silent.

She finally understood where she had gone wrong; she had used…… the crown prince too much.

“Yes.”

When something bad happened in families of people of her standing, and they didn’t want it to be known, most would take the initiative to throw out another harmless matter to attract attention.

Zheng Wan thought to herself, she couldn’t let any one of the issues that mattered be leaked out, it would be all over if they were revealed.
