I’ll Be The Warrior’s Mother - Chapter 285
It had been weeks since the Demon King had died. It was common sense that the sudden disappearance of his corpse was unbelievable.
But this is the Demon King we’re talking about. One cannot apply the common sense of humans to matters of the Demon King.
With that in mind, in addition to Count Penelle’s testimony that not only were there no signs of an intrusion, but there was also no trace of anything leaving the storage room, Yelena could not feel at ease. If the Demon King had used his resurrected strength to escape from the residential castle without a trace…
But as Yelena’s complexion worsened, contrarily, the Holy Sword’s voice remained as calm as ever.
[And I thought it’d be something bad.]
After a long yawn, the Holy Sword continued talking in Yelena’s head.
[Don’t worry so needlessly.]
‘Needlessly?’
[The Demon King can’t come back to life. His heart wasn’t just destroyed, it was pulverized to dust. How could he come back to life?]
‘…Are you sure?’
[I was created to kill the Demon King. I may not know much else, but I know this one thing for sure. The Demon King has been completely slain, with no chance of revival.]
The Holy Sword’s voice sounded surer than ever.
“…Haa.”
Yelena’s legs gave in as soon as her tension released. Yelena sank down onto a nearby sofa. Kaywhin put the Holy Sword away and sat beside her, letting her lean on his shoulder.
‘Then why did the Demon King’s corpse disappear?’
[I don’t know either.]
‘That makes me nervous…’
[No need to be. After all, it’s a corpse. What’s a dead body capable of doing?]
‘Well, that’s true.’
[He was probably summoned back to the Demon Realm.]
‘The Demon Realm?’
[The demons’ hometown.]
‘Aha.’
[After all, the Demon King’s corpse is considered a foreign substance in this world. It must’ve gone back to where it belongs.]
‘Everything’s okay, right?’
[Right, right. Crossing over to this world from the Demon Realm is no easy feat in the first place. The Demon King could do it because he was the Demon King, but he’s dead now.]
“So, don’t worry” was what the Holy Sword was saying. Just when Yelena regained her composure, the Holy Sword’s voice echoed in her head.
[Well then… I’ll be going back to sleep. Don’t wake me up this time. I’ll be going into a deep sleep anyway, so I might not even wake up if you do…]
‘Sleep well, Terry,’ Yelena replied without much thought.
Yelena had never wished the Holy Sword a good night before he went off to sleep. She never really felt the need to.
But this time was different. The moment she heard him say “a deep sleep,” for some reason, the greeting came out on its own, as if she had felt something.
The Holy Sword didn’t respond to Yelena’s greeting. Normally, he’d be thrilled by the nickname, but this time, he was quiet.
“…”
Yelena felt strange. She could be mistaken, but she had a feeling that she might not hear the Holy Sword’s voice again for a very long time.
Yelena stayed silent as she completely released the tension from her body. Kaywhin felt her delicate body lean deeper into him.
“Is everything resolved?” He asked.
“…Mm, probably.”
“Please let me know if there is anything I can help you with.”
“No, there isn’t. It wasn’t anything much. I was just worried about something, but I didn’t need to be.”
Yelena’s shoulders quivered. It was chilly.
She hadn’t realized before because she was preoccupied with conversing with the Holy Sword, but she now noticed how cold the terrace was. The dress she had changed into had short sleeves.
Kaywhin noticed that Yelena was feeling cold. He quickly took his coat off and wrapped it around her. Yelena accepted the coat without protest. She grinned.
“Thank you.”
She was pleased about several things. The increased warmth thanks to the coat. Her husband’s scent coming from the garment.
And of course, the look of her husband, who was now wearing one less layer upon giving his coat to Yelena.
‘Whose husband is this…’
His shoulders and chest were so…
Yelena blatantly stared at Kaywhin’s body with no intention of being subtle. Then, she suddenly spoke.
“Oh, Darling.”
“…?”
“Did anyone hit… I mean, strike up a conversation with you at the banquet hall while I wasn’t there?”
Kaywhin couldn’t answer right away. He hesitated briefly. It was more than enough for Yelena to assume the answer.
Yelena’s eyes narrowed. There was someone.
“Who? A woman?”
“…Yes.”
“What was her name?”
“She said she was Countess Roda…”
“Hmm. What did she look like?”
“I don’t really remember. I didn’t look at her closely.”
“Really?”
“Yes.”
