Forced to Marry the Enemy Prince - Chapter 52
It seemed like he was going to have a heart-to-heart talk with Xian Sheng. Turning his head around to look at Zhan Lue, Xian Sheng nodded.
If he spoke his mind to Zhan Lue, he would definitely say the wrong things. After spending so much effort resolving that slip of a mouth he made this afternoon, he could not afford to commit the same mistake again.
Zhan Lue sensed that he wanted to say something and waited, but Xian Sheng kept silent. Hence, he asked, “What do you think?”
Xian Sheng averted his gaze and said, “You’ll become the Emperor one day.”
“If I become the Emperor, you’ll be the Empress.”
“What about the concubines?”
“I don’t want them.”
Xian Sheng pursed his lips and chuckled. His gaze was gentle as he agreed, “Me too.”
Zhan Lue kissed him again. He then grabbed the weapon on the table and asked, “Do you recognise this?”
Xian Sheng looked at it for a while before replying, “No.”
“It’s Qin Yi’s.” He flipped it around and showed Xian Sheng. There was a symbol that looked like a crescent moon surrounded by a few petals at the back of the knife. Zhan Lue explained, “He likes to draw the moon and flowers on his items. Although I don’t know why he does that, I remember that I almost died that year when his arrow pierced my chest.”
Xian Sheng remained silent, yet Zhan Lue continued, “I wonder how he sneaked in. Have you seen him before?”
Xian Sheng shook his head and he asked again, “Did anyone suspicious approach you?”
“No.”
Qi Yi not giving up on Xian Sheng did not bid well for himself. Feeling suffocated, he coughed and said tiredly, “I’m exhausted.”
He curled up on the bed and sighed slowly. On the other hand, Zhan Lue draped his coat around himself and started to read the military documents. After a while, he turned around and stared at Xian Sheng’s back with a heavy expression.
Perhaps because of the incident that happened at onsen, Xian Sheng caught a cold and developed a fever. After drinking a bowl of medicine dazedly, he fell asleep again. Zhan Lue sat at the edge of his bed, his brows knitted tightly into a frown.
As the Empress was still concerned about Xian Sheng’s face, she visited them the next day. Knowing that Xian Sheng was afraid of the cold, she entered the room directly, only to be informed that the couple had not woken up yet.
The Empress frowned. “When did they go to bed?”
“Yesterday midnight. However, the Princess developed a fever in the middle of the night.”
“Did you summon the Imperial Doctor?”
“Yue Hua knows some medical knowledge and there is medicine in the palace, so we did not trouble the Imperial Doctor.”
“How did she develop a fever so suddenly?”
“The Crown Prince asked her to bathe at the onsen yesterday and she got a fever shortly after returning.”
She already instructed him to not touch Xian Sheng, but he still asked Xian Sheng to bathe with him after coming back? With a weak body like that, won’t Xian Sheng have to be confined to the bed after all such intense activity? Could Xian Sheng still endure the lengthy procedures during the Ancestral Worship Ceremony?
Empress Xin’s expression became unhappy and she instructed the rest, “Wait outside.”
She pushed the door open and entered.
When Zhan Lue heard her, he knew that things were bad. He sprang up immediately, waking Xian Sheng up. However, he placed his finger over Xian Sheng’s lips and said, “I didn’t bathe with you yesterday. Remember to say the truth.”
After speaking, he jumped out of the window immediately.
Xian Sheng was speechless. “…”
The Empress stuck her head into the room and was planning to pinch Zhan Lue awake. However, all she saw was her daughter-in-law’s beautiful sleeping face.
Sitting beside her slowly, she examined Xian Sheng’s face and she felt slightly relieved. Qi Siyue’s medicine was indeed exceptional. After a night, Xian Sheng’s bruises had faded substantially. However, she was concerned if they still hurt or not.
She placed the back of her palm against Xian Sheng’s forehead. Although it still felt hot, the fever had probably subsided and she felt relieved again.
Xian Sheng thought that the Empress would leave after touching his forehead. To be honest, he was scared that she would ask him some weird questions which he could not answer. He still had not explained yesterday’s misunderstanding clearly.
However, the Empress sat there motionlessly.
Gazing at Xian Sheng’s face, she frowned slightly.
She did not really like Xian Sheng that much, thinking that his lips were too pretty, his eyes too beautiful and his lips too full. Even his fair skin was like the heavy snow outside—she was sick of looking at it each year.
However, as she gazed at his closed eyes, blushing cheeks and his scattered hair across the pillow, she could not avert her eyes at all.
She thought, How can there be such an annoying girl? Even I, the mighty Empress of Jin, want to bite her to get a taste of her.
She muttered, “Little devil.”
Xian Sheng was speechless.
How did he offend her?
