Forced to Marry the Enemy Prince - Chapter 59
Xian Sheng watched with amusement as Zhan Lue messed up his initially tidy collar. As he walked, he helped Zhan Lue adjust it and said softly, “You’re not used to such clothes?”
Normally, Zhan Lue wore tight sleeves, even when he was indoors. Other than their wedding day, this was the first time that Xian Sheng had seen him wear a robe with large sleeves. He even wore a crown today, making him look less wild and more stately.
Zhan Lue said, “I don’t really like it.”
He loved martial arts ever since he was a child. Plus, as he was pampered, his father never reprimanded him even if he wore tight sleeves and informal crowns. When Zhan Lue’s brothers mentioned it, his father even defended him, saying that it was troublesome for him to change as he was busy with military affairs.
Xian Sheng suddenly realised that Zhan Lue was actually very handsome. His eyebrows were sharp and there was a dignified and youthful look on his face. Even amongst the royalty, he was considered one of the better-looking ones. Remembering that Emperor Jin liked ‘beauties’, Xian Sheng stifled a laugh, causing Zhan Lue to frown. Xian Sheng asked softly, “Did you become the Crown Prince because you are handsome?”
Instead of being embarrassed or angry, he said seriously, “Precisely so.”
Xian Sheng grinned. As the Empress, who was in front of them, was moving quickly, he followed briskly after her.
Zhan Lue’s expression suddenly turned cold when he walked beside Xian Sheng. Although he had never been afraid of anyone, his body tensed uncontrollably.
The Empress had never worn any extravagant accessories either. When she was younger, she was one of the most famous beauties in the country. Now that she was the Mother of the entire nation, her charisma alone was sufficient to intimidate others. Everyone else kept their heads lowered and sneaked quick glances behind her.
Empress Xin glanced at Imperial Tutor Qi. Smiling, she strode towards him.
With the Imperial Tutor standing at the front, the other officials stood up straight and looked at her party.
The first thing they saw was a pair of embroidered phoenix shoes. Moving their gaze upwards, they saw the face which made Zhan Lue fall in love at first sight.
The sun had already risen by then. Although Xian Sheng’s clothes were not considered dazzling, the pearls sewn onto the robes reflected the sunshine faintly, yet extremely noticeably.
This was the Crown Princess’ first appearance in front of the officials. It was as if the faint light represented the ancestors’ spirits approaching him, causing his exquisite face to shine brightly under the sunlight. When Xian Sheng sensed the officials’ eyes on him, he bowed slightly.
Southern Liang placed more importance on etiquette than Northern Jin. As he grew up in the palace, he exuded a naturally noble aura. It was as if all the beauty in the world was concentrated within his body— it would not be an exaggeration to say that he could charm every single person.
Plus, the man beside Xian Sheng was the most desired bachelor in the capital. No wonder Emperor Jin said that they were a pair made in heaven. Ever since Zhan Lue was a child, he had a high standard. Although he was exceptionally handsome, he distanced himself from everyone.
When he was eighteen, he did not marry anyone, nor did anyone hear that he had a crush on a lady. Everyone thought that he would die old alone. No one expected that he delayed his marriage for so long just to marry such a gorgeous beauty.
Indeed, the Emperor’s taste was extraordinary. They were not simply a match made in heaven—they had been blessed by the gods themselves! Everyone was extremely envious.
The venue went silent for a moment. After a while, Prime Minister Qiu slammed his right fist against his left palm and praised, “She’s a beauty that only appears once in a thousand years!”
Looking at Imperial Tutor Qi, who had just broken out of his trance, he said, “Looks like the title of ‘First Beauty of the Capital’ belongs to the Crown Princess.”
Imperial Tutor Qi said in a deep voice, “Do you think that she is prettier than my son’s wife? Son, what do you think?”
After waiting for a while, he received no response. Hence, he turned around to take a look at his son. However, his son’s soul seemed to have been sucked away by the Crown Princess.
Imperial Tutor Qi’s face turned cold and he strode into the chamber first. Unwilling to let him off just like that, Prime Minister Qiu said with a smile, “Looks like she’s really worth ten cities. Don’t you agree, General?”
General Jiang said slowly, “The Crown Prince did not marry her just because of her beauty. Ah Qin told me that this Princess of Liang was very intelligent. Although they did not have many soldiers on their side, they could fend off our huge army. If we continued fighting, we might not be able to advance any more, and Qin Yi could turn the tables anytime soon. Even though our army was 150,000 strong, our food supplies posed a problem. If we dragged it any longer…”
