I Became The Childhood Friend of the Obsessive Second Male Lead - Chapter 375
The King’s eyebrows twitched upon hearing his response.
“Does a slave trader dare to invest in me?”
“Is there anything better for a lowly merchant than winning the favor of a highly esteemed person like yourself?”
The King seemed pleased with DD’s cheerful answer and laughed heartily, gesturing for him to leave. Before long, nobles from the provinces arrived, seeking an audience.
“Back again?”
King Liz openly expressed annoyance, clicking his tongue.
“Your Majesty, about the matter I mentioned before regarding the slash-and-burn people…”
“Didn’t I send soldiers?”
“That…the soldiers seem to be taking longer than expected.”
“It seems like it’s taking a while.”
The King didn’t seem to be particularly concerned, asking the attendant by his side, “Any special messages?”
Due to a night of heavy drinking, the attendant, suffering from a hangover, suddenly stood up.
“N, not yet, nothing!”
Unable to see the attendant’s state, the King nodded approvingly.
“If there are no major issues, they should arrive. Be a bit more patient.”
“As for the promised payment for the construction…”
The noble intervened again, and when the topic turned to money, King Liz frowned. It seemed this was the main point of the conversation.
“Well, if you provide at least a down payment, I can get started somehow.”
“. . . Wait for it.”
The noble continued, oblivious to the king’s simmering frustration.
“I heard the money going to the mercenaries is not insignificant. Shouldn’t Your Majesty also protect your good subjects?”
King Liz stood up abruptly reacting to this outrageous statement.
“Your Majesty!”
“Get out immediately!”
“But…”
“Who said I wouldn’t give you that measly amount of money!”
The noble wanted to ask when and how he would receive the money. It was truly urgent. However, when his eyes met King Liz’s fierce gaze, he couldn’t utter a word.
“If you understand, leave immediately. Don’t bother me.”
As he walked out the door, another person waiting in front quickly nodded his head. It seemed to be another noble who had been waiting for an audience.
“And what brings you here again?”
The king asked about his business with as much patience as possible.
“Well, the budget we set up last time hasn’t been implemented at all…”
Money again. The King, feeling uncomfortable, kicked the man who knelt before him.
“Ugh!”
“Didn’t you hear me say to wait!”
Shouting, the King threw a bottle of expensive liquor to the ground. The glass and alcohol turned the floor into a mess, and he knocked over all the documents piled on the desk.
They were all just asking for money!
“You lazy scoundrels who do nothing but take money!”
In a hurry, the attendant knelt in front of him, picking up one document at a time.
“Leave it.”
“Ye, yes?”
When the attendant asked, still holding the documents, the king kicked him and shouted.
“I told you to leave that trash!”
The King grumbled and then threw the ink on the desk onto the documents.
Even then, his anger didn’t subside, and he continued to breathe heavily for a while.
Watching from a distance, the subject in the room trembled, his face turning pale. He hadn’t expected the King to get so angry over a simple mention of the budget proposal. Soon, King Liz lifted his head, and his gaze fell upon the trembling subject. The poor subject, barely able to breathe properly, gasped for air.
“. . . Still not leaving?”
“I, I will leave.”
“Get out now! If you come bothering me with such useless matters again, I will rip your head out!”
“I… I will keep that in mind!”
The subject bowed repeatedly and hastily fled from the King’s office.
King Liz continued to glare at the kneeling steward. Finally, he ordered for someone to bring more liquor immediately.

Later that night, Rieta and the soldiers enjoyed an evening that felt like a festival.
As the night deepened, most of them fell asleep. Although many seemed eager to continue reveling until morning, the most important thing now was to alleviate fatigue.
Some soldiers stayed up to keep watch, while others shared warm blankets inside the tents, sleeping closely together for comfort. Rieta offered colorful garments from her belongings as makeshift blankets or mats.
She distributed warm outerwear to the soldiers, even providing Moody with one. Rieta had almost no suitable clothes left for herself, having generously shared them with the others. If the maid hadn’t insisted, “Not something as extravagant as the wedding dress!” she might have given away even that.
The autumn night was chilly, and the tents were thin, making it easy for the wind to penetrate. Rieta looked at the rich wedding dresses neatly laid out in the carriage and sighed with regret.
“It would have been better to give it away.”
Rieta murmured, gazing at the lavish wedding dress.
