As Roelin exchanged her gaze with Lucy, the Duchess started to speak again.

“I—that’s…… I have something that is very important to tell the Empress, so I requested to see her at the risk of me being very discourteous.”

“Didn’t we already plan to have tea time together tomorrow anyway? So, I don’t understand the reason you needed to be in such a hurry after all.”

“But it is such an important story…”

When the Duchess saw how Roelin was responding calmly to what she had to say, she opened her mouth once again while still looking at her. She seemed to be trying to get Roelin’s attention as much as possible.

Nevertheless, Roelin didn’t show any ounce of interest in what she was trying to say. Then, the Duchess, who couldn’t help but to just speak, voiced out as she bit her lips.

“What I wanted to say is…… So, I would like you to send the others out for a while.”

“Is it a secret that’s somehow related to Pazolan?”

Roelin listened quietly to the words of the Duchess and she asked calmly. The Duchess shook her head in response to the question.

“No. It’s not like that—it’s rather a story that is related to the Empress…”

“Then, it doesn’t matter at all. These are all my people and if it’s a story related to me, there’s no reason to hide it from them as well.”

Roelin looked at Lucy and Silloa as she said so. Then, Lucy and Silloa startled momentarily before they proceeded to bow down with delighted expressions at once.

A sense of joy was permeated from them. How could they not be happy to hear of their Master’s words of trust in themselves?

However, Lucy and Silloa quickly erased their elation and strengthened their vigilance against their surroundings.

A story about the Empress herself.

The sudden story that the Duchess had brought up made them unable to relax even more.

Because of that, the atmosphere in the parlor began to change a little heavier and sharper. Even if you couldn’t see it with your own eyes, one could already feel it instinctively.

The Duchess was no exception too, so she unknowingly moistened her parched lips and opened her mouth directly towards Roelin.

Roelin’s blue eyes flickered at once. She wasn’t surprised to hear the story for the first time. She had already heard all about the Wolf Tribe from him, so she was not particularly surprised.

Roelin merely looked at the Duchess without saying anything. Lucy and Silloa also kept their silence without taking a deep breath at all.

And the one next to Lucy, it was actually surprising that she did not lose her composure at all as she had usually been distracted.

“It’s really terrible. I was so surprised to hear it that my hands instantly trembled and I couldn’t even sleep because I was so worried about the Empress…”

“Who did you hear that from?”

Roelin asked with a firm expression. Then, the Duchess still went on with her words, but she soon became startled and shut her mouth. As if Roelin would not tolerate the Duchess’s silence, she asked once again with an interrogative tone.

“I asked who was the one that told you about it, Duchess.”

“Well, is that really important right now, Empress? The one who believes the Empress’s husband is a beast, no, just a monster that pretends to be a human……”

“Don’t you dare insult my husband any further!”

Roelin immediately stood up from her seat, interrupting the Duchess.

“Hwa—Empress!”

Despite the fact that the wound on her foot had not been fully healed, Lucy and Silloa, who just kept quiet until then, were instantly frightened by Roelin’s behavior as she stood up from her seat and they immediately tried to stop her.

However, Roelin didn’t pay any attention to their disapproval and straight went towards the Duchess instead.

She didn’t feel any pain in her feet. She couldn’t even feel anything. No, even if she felt a pinch of pain, it was still only minor.

It was her heart that had hurt more than that. Her anger at the fact that Kergel was being talked about like this made her forget all of that.

“Empress…”

The Duchess wet her lips as if she was embarrassed by Roelin’s anger. She just didn’t expect that someone whom she thought to be a quiet and well-behaved person would actually reveal their feelings to this extent.

Roelin looked at the Duchess with eyes that seemed to contain such blue blazing flames.

“You actually dare to insult my husband, the Emperor of Seroif. How I admire your reckless behavior.”

She opened her mouth in the same manner of a mockery. Then, she continued protesting as the Duchess struggled to brush off her own embarrassment.

“What reckless behavior! Even though we are from the Principality of Seroif, we would not stand this kind of insult!”

“Then, should my husband and I put up with the insults you threw? Am I supposed to sit still after listening to what you had just uttered?”

“That, that stems from my own sense of loyalty…”

“I am warning you, Duchess. If you insult him one more time, I will not stand by. I will never tolerate such words.”

Roelin intercepted the Duchess’s words and coldly retorted back.

As she recalled how Kergel turned into a being of the Wolf Tribe, it reminded her of when she had avoided him. And she vividly remembered the image of him who—far from being angry with her—was just looking after herself instead.

To have called such a man; a monster itself?
