The World that You Would Be Living In. (13)

“To have a meeting now—all of a sudden?”

Kergel leaned against his back and muttered as he snorted. Then, Heinez narrowed his forehead with a worried look on his face before opening his mouth.

“There must be some kind of hidden intention. I need some time to figure it out, so why don’t you delay it by coming to the meeting a little……”

“It’s okay, Heinez. I don’t really know what they have in plan, but I hate being frightened in advance and lowering my own tail.”

Kergel shook his hand at the cautious Heinez and stood up immediately. Then, Heinez followed suit before he started to speak up to him once again.

“But there is no need to simply let them move as they please. It’s already suspicious to talk about an unscheduled meeting that was suddenly announced.”

“Okay. But not fishy enough. In the first place, the fact that an old man had called me over while talking about his own 60th birthday was already too suspicious.”

Kergel raised the corners of his mouth crookedly in response to Heinez’s words. Then, he soon shifted his steps towards the terrace.

The music in the banquet hall could still be heard loud and clear. He went out to the terrace and leaned his arm against the railing. Heinez eventually came out straight after himself.

“If you can still hear that sound, nothing seems to be happening yet. Who can even imagine it? All the malice and stench beneath that whole music—that laughter.”

“……”

“Well, it might just be a familiar scenery to them. It wouldn’t be new to see that a rotten smell would soon waft from beyond all that splendor…… just like how Rakain was.”

Kergel recalled Lenoff, who had calmly talked about his ‘sister’, even when both himself and Roelin were facing each other. Then, his teeth automatically began to gnash together, which made a grinding sound.

“Eventually, all your teeth will be damaged like that.”

Heinez had said something that was somewhat incompatible with the current situation. Therefore, Kergel gave a laugh as he still propped himself against the railing. Then, he erased his smile before he proceeded to look back at him once again.

“Did they inform you that the Empress is having her rest?”

“Yes. I heard that she is currently resting in the bedroom… oh, please excuse me for a moment.”

Heinez asked for Kergel’s understanding at the sound of his confidant’s voice that came from outside of the room before leaving the room.

Kergel turned his head again and looked outwards. His golden gaze soon sank heavily.

It had only been a little while ago that an attendant had come over to convey the words of the Duke of Pazolan.

To have an unscheduled meeting all of a sudden.

It was simply astonishing. Moreover, it became all the more so since it had not been something to be hurried about anyway—not like an agenda which would soon be used as a pretext for the meeting after all.

“……what utter nonsense. You’ve already been bothering me about a banquet or something like that and now, you’re even holding me back with a sudden meeting.”

Roelin seemed to be quite tired, so after giving her some time to leave first, he proceeded to wait for his chance to follow her back to her room. If he had done it according to his own personality, he would have left that place already. However, he forcibly tried to endure it since he would have definitely been scolded by Roelin if he did so.

After that, he finally managed to get out of the banquet hall and came to the break room. As soon as he was about to go back just then……

Right at the moment when Kergel had scratched his forehead with an annoyed expression, he could hear a trail of footsteps behind him. It was Heinez’s very own sound.

But for some reason, it felt uncharacteristically impatient. Kergel hardened his expression and started to turn his head again at once.

“Your Majesty.”

As soon as Heinez hurriedly approached, he opened his mouth.

“The Empress is currently having a meeting with the Duchess.”

“…A meeting with the Duchess?”

Kergel’s expression soon became hardened as well.

“Isn’t the Empress’s schedule supposed to be empty for today?”

“Yes. They said that the Duchess had unilaterally come to her and asked for a meeting. The Empress eventually granted her request.”

Heinez told Kergel what he had just heard from his subordinate earlier.

Kergel touched his chin and narrowed his eyes. Then, he began to speak again in a low voice.

“I think you’d better go and watch over the Empress.”

“Then, Your Majesty…”

“They were the ones that invited me, so I still have to accept them.”

Kergel replied with a twisted smile. Soon after, he said to Heinez once again.

“Things have seemed to be taking a rather unusual turn. I don’t feel that good about it.”

“Your Majesty.”

“Please take care of the Empress. No matter what happens, you have to keep her as safe as possible.”

“I will do my ultimate best.”

Heinez instantly bowed his head in response. Kergel nodded as he showed that he believed his friend’s words before hurling out his sharp gaze once more.

The sky, which should have been in the hue of a red sunset, had already become dark before he knew it.

It was so dark that even the moon could not be seen at all.

“Welcome. Thank you for coming over like this despite the sudden request.”

As soon as Kergel entered the room while being guided by an attendant, the Duke of Pazolan greeted him. However, he simply ignored the Duke’s greeting and looked around the hall.

“……”

His gaze was fixed right at the inside of the hall. Then, Kergel raised one corner of his mouth. Just as if he was responding to him, he took a step closer towards him from inside the hall before flashing a smile.
