If I Disobey the Duke - Chapter 126

Echoes of gunshots, tinnitus, and the sound of rain hitting the stone wall came at the same time.
The smell of gunpowder that had thickened made her nose sting. The arm that supported her wrist wrapped around her waist and supported her body.
The revolver slipped out of Lily’s shaking hands.
The empty barrel hit the floor. She fell and at the same time, her head split with a headache.
The accident was stopped as her brother’s giant body slowly rolled backwards.
“Ah…”
As soon as the cracked voice came out, he collapsed to the floor.
Rocus was between the table, the soldiers and their helmets lying on the floor.
His momentum that was like that of a savage warrior had disappeared, and now it was nothing more than someone who had given up resistance.
“Ugh… Ow….”
A moan escaped between his tired, purple lips.
The second bullet pierced Rocus’s right shoulder. His shirt was drenched in bright red blood, dripping down his slackened arms and down to his fingers.
It should be painful, like stabbing his shoulder blades with a roaring torch. But he felt nothing.
Fear. Astonishment and fear engulfed him.
It was the fear that instinct first realized that broke his resistance.
It was the first time in his life, as one who was the boss and ran wild everytime, faced a predator.
“Monster…”
It was a muttering loud enough for everyone to hear. At his brother’s words, Lily’s body hardened like ice.
Those words pierced Lily’s chest like an awl. Even in the midst of chaos, she was terrified.
She had no way of knowing what Vlad looked like because he had her back, but she vaguely noticed that it wasn’t the same as usual.
She was more worried about the wounds that Vlad would have suffered than her bloodied brother.
Lily’s vision slowly darkened. His wide, gloved hand stretched out from behind her, covering her view.
Wet and cold leather from rain. It covered her entire eyes.
Vlad’s warm breath touched her ear. “If you have even one scratch on your body…” His voice was hoarse.
At first, the tone was dry, as if it did not contain a single emotion.
But she wasn’t unaware that it actually harbored a cold fury.
“He won’t die easily. Even if he has your blood.”
The hair all over her body stood up. It was a cold tone that made her stomach ache.
“Valks. Do what you have to do.”
At the heavy command, there was a rattling sound of iron armor.
The sound of a sword slamming the floor quickly, and the rustling of the cloth to get Rocus up. The fainted soldiers woke up and the others helping their superiors made a lot of noise.
Among them, only Vlad was silent. He is back. He was so far closer to her than ever.
The hem of his clothes got wet from the rain, and his aura became even thicker. The body temperature that warmed the body that has cooled from tension.
She can’t feel him more vividly than this, but the only thing was that she was not allowed to just look at him.
It was an unpleasant feeling.
“Vlad. Why…” Lily grabbed his wrist, slender fingers stretched over the cold leather glove. “Why are you covering my eyes?”
A long silence.
He opened his mouth, “It would be good for you not to look.”
It wasn’t because he was embarrassed. He must have been through the same situation. Repeatedly.
They both knew it.
Instead of letting her go, he tightened his grip.
“Let me see.”
His breathing stopped. Lily was nervous because she had no idea what kind of expression he was making.
Will I be rejected this time?
The time when she asked to remove the blindfold came to mind.
This time too…
“…”
His hand moved away to the corner of her eye. Light poured into the closed eyelids first.
When she opened her eyes slowly, the stone chamber she saw was empty. There were only helmets rolling on the floor and a table that had fallen over.
Attempts to turn her head toward him were to no avail.
“Ah…”
He grabbed her wrists. His broad hand covered her eyes again.
Ignoring her request, he also covered her ears as if he didn’t want her to hear much.
What was happening in his body was transmitted as vibrations through his palms covering her ears.
It’s the feeling of knowing what’s going on even though you don’t know what’s going on.
When she didn’t know how much time had passed, his hand fell.
Lily’s mind came back like a lightning bolt as he strode backwards.
“Ah!”
Without a moment to look back, her body was pulled up, arms around her back and thighs.
She looked up at him.
Dark clouds that had obscured even the cloudy sky escaped the window. A cloud of sunlight rimmed his silhouette.
The angle of the features that fell from the forehead to the nose and slid to the lips was clear.
Just looking at it like that made her heart flutter. The long night of wishing for him to only come back alive from that living hell passed by.
“Vlad…”
It was a whisper that was nothing more than an appeal to face her.
He steadfastly turned away from her. The only place he looked was the front.
Lily wanted to say too much and she didn’t say anything. There was only a complicated stillness as he chose his words.
“For now…” A low whisper that broke the silence. “Please don’t look at me. Lily.”
Only then did Lily see him properly.
