Please Be Quiet And Take Off Your "Something" - Chapter 131
Na-Yool slowly pushed him away, letting out a sweet sigh between her parted lips.
“… What if we get caught?”
“What about it.”
Her meaning of “let’s not get caught” being turned into a suggestive “let’s get caught” by Si-Jin left Na-Yool in shock. This time, Na-Yool did not push him lightly. He, however, did not resist her shoving. She scanned his unfathomable expression with squinted eyes.
“…What about it?”
“There’s nothing wrong with it, right?”
There were so many things wrong about it she could not even list them all. Fortunately for Na-Yool, changing jobs in this industry was a process smooth enough that she could ignore the rumors after she quits. But Si-Jin was not an ordinary employee, and if something went wrong between them, or if he changed his mind and found a woman to marry but she hears he had that kind of relationship with an employee…
…Ah, this is why sometimes this man seemed so frustrated that he wanted to grab her by the collar and shake her up. Of course, not grabbing Na-Yool’s collar directly, but an innocent passerby’s in her stead.
Besides, his wedding partner… In utter annoyance, Na-Yool’s pictured a faceless, shapeless, nameless woman, which soon disappeared from her mind.
Don’t you dare marry someone if not me…
The realization of having such a thought hit her hard. Oh god…
“We just started doing well. So stop thinking about ‘when things will go wrong’. You don’t even wish for it, anyway.” Si-Jin casually added.
The shock, as though her head had been banged on with a club, pierced through her mind.
Am I… obsessed with him?
Obsessed with a man she had been dating for less than a month… Too shocking!…
“Let’s say you are being realistic. Among all the ‘bad things’ you think about, is there even one you wish would happen?”
“…It’s not a question of will…” Na-Yool blinked her eyes in a daze.
A possessive instinct. It was a desire for exclusivity. One that came without any warning, proudly jumping from a world of unawareness to her conscious mind.
“Alright, enough. Just stop there.”
Before she could answer, Si-Jin’s apprehensive tone put an end to it. He waved his hand dismissively and frowned.
“You asked.” Na-Yool mumbled, bewildered and still dizzy.
“It might jinx us.”
“Mr. President, do you even believe in such nonsense?”
“I don’t know. But the more you think about stuff like this…”
He paused, seemingly searching for the right word.
“It’s ominous.”
Na-Yool, who suddenly became a woman who spreads negative energy and ill omen every time she opens her mouth, was actually falling into a different danger.
…I really like this person too much, don’t I?
********
“Ah, Kang-Woon, you really aren’t going to have a housewarming party?”
“My apartment is too small. There’s no space for you all to sit.”
“Then what should we do to commemorate the moving… Ah! Then buy us a drink today! That will do.”
“I’m the one who moved, so why is Mr. PD the one drinking for free? Good joke!”
“You’re the funny one! Don’t you know socialites? We can’t even have dinner parties because of the President, so let’s make an exception, hm?”
The first leisure lunch break in a long time. Sitting alone in the lounge while sipping a drink and looking at her phone, Na-Yool’s peace was disturbed when these men completely took up the seats next and across from her. Why, of all sofas available… And worse, even Seung-Jae was there.
Seung-Jae, who would have sat right next to her at any other time, was sitting far away, playing a game on his phone. Even if they face each other casually at their respective work-desks, there is an unavoidable wall.
Naturally, there had to be.
Na-Yool recalled how petty emotions emerged on Si-Jin’s deadpan face every time Seung-Jae was mentioned, and how uncharacteristically childish it was. Without realizing it, the corners of her mouth curled up.
Jealousy could easily turn into lack of trust. Na-Yool was always wary of men’s jealousy, and she tended to be on her guard, expecting to face a sudden case of delusional disorder at any moment.
And yet, here she was, smiling.
This exception, limited to Si-Jin only, was no longer a surprise. Finding even that aspect of him endearing, it truly was the sign that she wanted them to go as far as they can…
“Of course we must be frugal, but don’t you think President Kwon is kinda stingy? Why have a company credit card if we don’t use it…”
“Do we even have one?”
“You know, the one we use once in a while to entertain business partners. That’s it, nothing else.”
(unedited)
“Indeed, this company is great but just this… I can’t agree with the President unwillingness to offer us some drinks.”
“I tell you, it’s a matter of assuring loyalty. How to insure the unity of the employees? Of course, by organizing company dinners and—”
“—of course, by paying them a generous salary.”
Na-Yool was looking at her phone screen and involuntarily looked up. He took her a moment to figure out why people were no longer talking and were just staring at her face.
Ah.
The embarrassment of saying aloud what was just a thought briefly crossed her. She looked at Kim PD sitting across, and spoke with feigned composure, so as to not get caught for not being able to distinguish between thinking and speaking.
“Don’t all loyalty come from money? Isn’t that why everyone sticks around?…”
“…Na-Yool, what’s wrong with you?”
“What?”
“Who gets the most excited when talking ill of the President?”
“…That would be me?” She coolly admitted the truth. “However, drinking is not really my thing.”
“Kim Na-Yool, don’t pull my leg. Every time you drink, not a single man can last like you.”
“Being a strong drinker does not entail me to like it, does it? It’s all because of seniors like you, who always force the younger ones into drinking—”
“Nonsense, you’re the ones always doing the pouring!”
“Isn’t that exactly what Korean manners teach us to do? I respect my elders, therefore I indulge you.” Na-Yool claimed with a straight face. Actually though, she had herself forced them back to drink as retaliation, but oh well.
Kim PD clicked his tongue.
“What about you is young anyway? Already old enough for marriage and have not yet tied the knot?”
“Sigh, how many times did I repeat you it’s not that I can’t but don’t?”
“Sure, fine, let’s say that is the case.”
“Na-Yool, no matter how much the world changes, women are ultimately different from men. Men, no matter how old they get, can still have children, hm? But hey, a woman in her early thirties—”
“Shin PD, you are the oldest one here. You should be more preoccupied than I am. Are you in any position to discuss ages? I really don’t think so.” [T/N: There seem to be 2 geezers here, Kim PD and Shin PD. But I think it’s another Kim PD than the one we know, because I doubt he would treat KNY like that]
Shin PD, who got slapped in return without seeing it coming, choked up.
“O-oldest?… You’re too much, I didn’t even say you were old!”
“If I’m old, you should be in a coffin, right? I just didn’t even mention the coffin out of politeness.”
“Y– You! How ruthless. Now you’re sending me to my grave!”
“Ms. Na-Yool, did something bad happen to you today?”
“Well, she’s right. Isn’t it wrong for Shin PD to comment on her age?”
Just as Kang-Woon, the one forced to hold a house-warming party, silently bugged in, Seung-jae, who had been staring at his cell phone screen the entire time, chuckled in turn. Na-Yool rightfully shrugged her shoulders in answer.
“Indeed.” commented Kang-Woon.
“Kang-Woon, just shup up and get the house-warming party ready.”
“Ah, for real, let’s just have a simple dinner instead. I will pay, ok.”
“Really? You can’t get back on your words!”
Na-Yool clicked her tongue as she looked at the satisfied expressions of the old geezers. All kinds of baseless flattery floated around, such as saying that Kang-Woon was a better human than the CEO or that true leadership starts with swiping credit cards. Rather than being a person who saves money on alcohol, they probably knew that what Si-Jin truly hates is drinking with people like them.
Still, she was somewhat annoyed.
What was this feeling?
