Was Si-Jin not being overly cranky for nothing?

It seemed like the amount of intercourse they had was his standard for calculating time. Considering that he would drive her every day even at a late hour, if he had told her he wanted to have sex, she would have…

… Gosh, what am I thinking, regretting again that we didn’t do it, really…

Na-Yool once again lost her mind to despair. The sound of paper being flipped could still intermittently be heard over the phone. It meant Si-Jin was still working.

‒Anyway, eat well. Wherever, whatever and whoever you eat with.

“I have a good appetite. Really.”

‒Yeah, right.

His tone could not be any more sarcastic.

‒Even if you think so, you should be more alert. Because your body condition is a bit serious.

“…Serious in what way…”

For a moment, Na-Yool hated herself for inwardly recalling all the times she had undressed in front of him, wondering if he had found any parts of herself unsightly or embarrassing. For example, a conspicuously ugly lower half, or a too skinny body… Of course, when the words ‘too thin’ crossed her mind, Na-Yool laughed outrageously. With such a healthy body, what the hell was ‘too skinny’!

Forget being too skinny, she was not even close to being thin. Calling her skinny, saying it was severe, was probably just part of Si-Jin’s habit of finding fault with her, like with work.

Her body was not exceptional, but it was not notably lacking in anything to make it unsightly. Unless Si-Jin had dated only celebrity-like women, her body was good enough in its own way…

…Or was that it? Had he only been with women of this kind?

It took just an instant for her thoughts to go down that road. And her mood to go down along with it.

Thinking about it, it was not strange that he would date similarly cold and distant women. They belonged to the same category, flawlessly perfect from head to toes.

…Yet, didn’t he get hard looking at me? He even jumped me as soon as his ugly thing was up and… ahh, that’s not it. What am I thinking!

Na-Yool hastily pushed her rambling thoughts to the back of her mind, pushing aside as well her useless and unnecessary concerns about her body.

In the first place, it was always Si-Jin who initiated it. Just because he was perfect, did she have any obligation to fix her own imperfections?

For such a deceptive pervert, she had none.

‒You’re too skinny.

As expected, the word ‘serious’ was, again, used as an incorrect standard that only himself followed. Na-Yool sighed.

“…Please don’t go around saying such a thing. People will curse me.”

‒So skinny that the wind could blow you away.

The truth is, she was indeed vulnerable to the winter wind. But it was only because of her weak legs, not because she was thin as a paper like Si-Jin said.

“……What got into you now?”

‒I just want you to eat well.

“……”

‒Don’t make any appointment or anything tomorrow night. Don’t walk around late. On the weekend, just stay at home.

“…Did you flatter me just to say that?”

Me, this good-for-nothing Kim Na-Yool, of all people?

Si-Jin answered indifferently as if he was aware of her thought.

‒I mean it when I say that you can’t even win against the wind.

Though she felt uncomfortable being appraised as skinny, this new judgment was closer to an offense. Riled up, Na-Yool was about to lash back, but Si-Jin continued speaking as if he had no intention to listen.

‒And it’s a fact that your body needs more carrying.

“……”

‒If you’re going to keep on snacking on sandwiches at every lunch break, there’s no reason for it to be one hour and a half long. So, do as you see fit. [T/N: he is lowkey telling her to either eat properly to justify taking a long break, or else take a shorter break and work xD Evil!]

“……”

Was that a threat, or was it not…

‒And don’t go out late to the convenience store. I’m hanging up.

Na-Yool stared blankly at the abruptly hung phone, lost in thought.

…Am I dreaming, or did he just said that the lunch break time had been changed to one hour and a half for my sake? Just like this, over a private matter? For him to do me such a personal favor… Ah, not a favor, since it happily benefits everyone. But could it really be because of me?…

Am I sick, thinking it was for my sake! If delusion is a sickness, then I’m probably a severe case. It can’t be true! After Na-Yool walked in circles in her narrow room with a complicated mind, she walked to the door out of habit.

Beer. She needed beer. She had to go to the convenience store right now. As soon as she grabbed the doorknob, Si-Jin’s warning not to even think about going out late rang in her ears. Saying she had forgotten was not a good excuse since it was the last words that he had told her.

…What’s with him, acting so worried…

His gentle reminder to eat well and stay safe locked at home, how could it be anything but tenderness? Yet when she thought so, Sang-Hoon’s stupid face popped up in her mind. Na-Yool realized that it was all because of that incident. Right, Si-Jin’s consideration was probably for the sake of taking responsibility for the hornet’s nest he had himself stirred up. [T/N: She thinks Si-Jin is feeling guilty for riling up Sang-Hoon at the coffee shop and that it’s the reason for his care.]

After taking a shower, Na-Yool came out of the bathroom and opened the curtains to observe the dimly lit alley. It gave her the creeps like it never did before. She could not even blame Si-Jin’s brainwashing. After all, there was nothing wrong with being cautious…

Recalling his repeated warning to be careful, she somehow calmed down and laid back on the bed after closing the curtains.

And for some reason, with a thrilling feeling, as if she was about to be given safety lessons in her dreams.

Chapter 21 – Friday the 13th (A)

But no one told her.

That criminals and lunatics, or even resentful ex-boyfriends, do not roam around only at night.

At 7:20 am in the cool morning, as soon as Na-Yool crossed her doorstep on her way to work, she ran into a pair of red eyes and its owner who had likely stayed up right there the whole night.

“……”

“……”

I guess it’s not only at night that people ought to be careful, Na-Yool momentarily thought as if it did not concern her, but she could not stop the shivers crawling up her spine. She did not want to see him again, and in fact, genuinely did not even expect to see his face again…

This whole scene was like a dream. A very nasty dream. Na-Yool, who had yet to fully cross the threshold frozen by the sight of him, steadily got pushed outward into the hallway by the closing door, its automatic lock mercilessly ringing behind her. Na-Yool stood there in a daze for a few seconds, refusing to believe all of this was actually happening. But maybe was it thanks to the lock sound? Like a violent blow, the situation she was in soon felt real.

This was clearly the real world. Not a bad dream.

…I can’t believe he is that much of a nutcase…

Since when had he been standing here?! Last night series of events flashed in Na-Yool’s mind: she had a long and silly call with Si-Jin, took a shower as usual, then laid flat on her bed after anxiously looking out the window — and she then pictured Sang-Hoon waiting outside at the exact same time. He, who must have been staring at her front door with the same current unfamiliar gaze that she was seeing for the first time.

A chilling sensation ran through her body. When she thought that she had fallen asleep with no other layer than a single door between them, she could not help but feel dizzy. Na-Yool swallowed dryly and tightly grabbed the phone in her coat pocket after fumbling it several times. She furtively glanced down, then looked at Sang-Hoon.
