Speak Money Not Love with the Master - Chapter 9
Ye Wei had no way of investigating whether this AC incident was Xu Zhi’ang’s doing. In the entertainment circle, enemies were everywhere.
The number of good opportunities were already very few. It takes breaking your head if not losing some blood to snatch one. Nowadays, young rising ladies with both face and power are numerous, and the situation is violent. Good opportunities became even scarcer.
Ye Wei thoroughly understood the importance of the setting provided by Beijing, yet she doesn’t want to excessively entangle herself with Xu Zhi’ang.
She could no longer be promoted in the AC, so in her heart she was feeling a bit sad. However, for this phone call, she just really couldn’t do it. Nope, not calling!
Who knew that this forum post would spread, and that the person would once again find internal info to defame her. Fan He saw that the situation was getting more serious, and called Ye Wei. She started chiding the moment the phone connected. Afterwards, she once again tried to coax Ye Wei to drop her pride. This guy was a young master, whom the likes of themselves couldn’t afford to offend.
Ye Wei looks as if she is cold and detached, but she actually possessed a soft heart. She and Fan He were not family — they were even closer than family. Fan He was more upset than her about this situation.
Ye Wei clenched her phone. She must make the call. What will she say? Hehe (T/N: is that sarcastic laughter). Her head began to hurt just from thinking about dealing with this annoying evil spirit, the first young master Xu.
In the afternoon, two major filmings took place. The first one was a large confrontation scene. Ye Wei didn’t have a lot of dialogue in the entire drama. Use of emotional and body expressions were moments where her acting skills were put to the test.
The other one was a night scene, where the attention was shifted to refugees. Extras totaled up to 100 people. In addition to the field staff, workers, and film crew, it was a total of 300 people. The whole scene was an uproar to show disarray.
Ye Wei didn’t have time to deal with Xu Zhi’ang. For these scenes, she had practiced innumerable times in front of a mirror in the previous night.
Following that, she kept polishing up the leftover scenes. For parts she didn’t particularly understand, she would search for Jiang Xu for guidance. Jiang Xu was high class, but he had a gentle personality. Ye Wei felt very grateful to have met such a teammate. If it were one of those self-important actors whose “eyes were greater than the sky”, they were what you call a pain.
In the first scene, Ye Wei first ran it through two times. During it, the director made some adjustments. The third running was formal. They clapped the board at 6 o’clock.
The director was very satisfied with her performance. The people on the sidelines were also chattering privately among themselves: If they had used Yuan Lu for Ye Qinglan, how would the drama be viewable considering Director Qu’s temperament? No matter how many cups they had for him to break, there wouldn’t be enough.
The filming of the night scene only ended at 11 o’clock. The moment Director Qu announced the end of the shooting, people started leaving. Ye Wei looked towards Jiang Xu. The two looked at each other in dismay. Were there no problems with this scene?
Before long, Director Fu ran over. “Miss Wei, there’s a situation. Director Qu wants you to come over.”
“Who came over?” It must be the executive from the production side. Otherwise, Director Qu wouldn’t have specially asked for her.
I’m not sure. The person didn’t come here. Director Qu had received a phone call and then just left. Just a moment ago, he called me to let you know that they are at HaiBin Yan.
“Ok, I’ll go over once I tidy up.” So it wasn’t a problem with her acting. So much for making her think that she slipped up somewhere.
Ye Wei took off her coat and gave it to the assistant. From the table, she took the script and headed to the makeup room to take off her makeup. The assistant went to get her personal clothes to change into. After finishing taking off the makeup, she let the makeup artist put on some simple and light makeup since she needed to go out.
Ye Wei had impressive facial features and a tall, straight stature. Even if she puts on some random clothes, she nonetheless looks like a heroic figure. At that time when they were choosing the cast, many people supported Ye Wei and hoped that she could appear as Ye Qinglan.
Thick black eyebrows, curled and slender eyelashes. The makeup artist said that since she wanted light makeup, all that was needed was to apply lipstick.
The assistant came back with her clothes, “Sis, you’re not going back to the hotel?”
“I don’t know which boss has come, but Director Qu wants me to go over.”
“What time are you coming back to the hotel then? I can get you hangover medicine or else your head will hurt again in the morning.”
This assistant has been with her for some time and was attentive with everything. “I don’t know. You can go back and rest. If something happens, I’ll call you.”
The pub restaurant where Director Qu was treating her was located at the seaside of the small town. The construction had both the architectural style of the last century and consistency of modern tones.
The car dropped her off at the entrance of the restaurant. Ye Wei opened the door, got off, and draped an overcoat on herself. Wrapping it tightly, she hurriedly ascended the steps. The automatic doors at the entrance slowly opened.
Ye Wei informed the room name to the waiter. They gestured an invite to show the way.
At this moment, her phone rang. She looked at the number. A cold expression turned into a laugh.
He did it himself, which meant she didn’t have to think of how to make the call herself.
Xu Zhi’ang was flabbergasted for a second when the phone connected. At hearing Ye Wei’s voice, he exclaimed a “yo” [indicating his surprise], “So you do know how to answer my call?”
“Sorry sorry, it’s been truly busy lately. You should know that after the filming of this drama began, we have been hastily shooting every day and night.”
“Was it busy to the extent that you didn’t have any time to answer a call?” Xu Zhi’ang knew that she did it on purpose, but he was the kind of low person who wanted to tease her. It was the man’s self-esteem and mischief. The more he couldn’t get ahold of her, the more he concerned himself with her.
“It was busy to the extent that even sleeping was a luxury. What have you been up to recently? Are you not doing rallies?”
“Fuck, I was banished to Siberia by my brother.”
Ye Wei pffed a laugh, “What did you do to have gotten Luo Head to inflict such a ruthless hand. Aren’t you guys blood related brothers (T/N: I repeat, they are cousins, but in China, cousins are kind of like brothers just like how in American culture, people call their close friends “bros”)?
“Please don’t mention it anymore. Wasn’t it just a rumor about a woman? It’s not like I deliberately spread the rumor. When’s your drama going to finish shooting?”
“After February.”
“Are you going to be with the crew during Chinese New Years too?”
“More or less. If we can rush the finish beforehand, then we will be able to return and celebrate.”
Xu Zhi’ang had wanted to speak, but before he could even get a word out, he sneezed.
”What’s wrong?”
“Do you know what the temperatures are in Siberia?” Xu Zhi’ang sniffed. “It’s a fucking 30 degrees below zero.” (T/N: Yikes.)
“In that case, pay attention to your health. The director is calling me, so I have to go.” Ye Wei walked to the room entrance. They didn’t talk about anything particularly worthwhile in this call, but since she took the call, she spoke as usual. If Xu Zhi’ang was willing to forgive her, then that’s that. But if she had to lower her head to plead the other, she couldn’t do it.
Even though she has experienced a lot of suffering many times, it was difficult to correct this personality of hers. When she was searching for a job after graduating college, and the brand company wanted her jewelry design to follow the ones in the conventional market and the populational trend, this is what she said then: What’s the use of finding a designer if designs are only intended to satisfy the mainstream.
The so-called rumor of a woman must be from that incident. It turns out that the source was Xu Zhi’ang. So much for making me very worried for a while. Serves him right to be banished, the further the better. It’d be even better if he didn’t come back.
The waiter knocked on the door, and then pushed it open. Ye Wei entered. Before even seeing who it was inside, she first put on a smile. “Sorry for the inconvenience, I have just gotten off work…”
Luo Chengyu?
