The Actor and His Three and Half Years Old Sister - Chapter 29.1
Liang Shuangqi’s arrival was sudden, and his departure was hasty as well. He and a cat left behind used glass and paper cups in the house before being led home by Liang Chen.
When Chu Jiadong and Xiao Bi returned, they were unaware of Liang Shuangqi’s visit. The family of four had lunch at home and then, carrying medicines and fruits, drove to the residential area where the grandparents lived.
In the car, Chu Xiaoyi still had lingering fears and asked, “Mom, are you sure you enrolled Xiaoxiao in the regular class? There shouldn’t be any other talented kids in her kindergarten, right?”
What kind of genius magnetism is this? Do kids also play in ranks, like matching kings with kings?
Xiao Bi replied puzzledly, “Of course it’s the regular class. The class I told you about last time requires them to be ten years old to apply…”
Chu Xiaoxiao frowned and corrected, “I already told you, Brother Qiqi met him at a coaching class. We just saw each other in the neighborhood before, but we didn’t attend the same school.”
Chu Xiaoxiao felt that her older brother had memory issues like a goldfish. She had explained Liang Shuangqi’s background to him before, but he had casually acknowledged it and then promptly forgotten the details. She seriously suspected that he had the same problem as their grandmother, easily forgetting things.
Chu Jiadong chuckled and said, “What’s this? Xiaoxiao made new friends again? That’s quite normal. You take her to the supermarket, and she’ll end up knowing people there too.”
Chu Jiadong was used to the friendships of children and found it unremarkable. Kids seemed to lack the guardedness of adults. When they met peers, they quickly got along well, and making friends didn’t require a special reason. Two children might exchange a few words, find a shared interest, and immediately become affectionate.
Driving through the bustling university campus and taking a few turns, Chu Jiadong arrived at the residential buildings. Both grandparents were retired professors from the university.
Nowadays, they occasionally travel or visit relatives, spending their days leisurely at home, enjoying retirement.
Xiao Bi got out of the car and looked around the freshly painted buildings. She reminisced, “They actually repainted it.”
Xiao Bi had grown up in the courtyard before. The residents of the community were mostly teachers and staff from the university, and many of her childhood playmates worked there.
The buildings in the courtyard were quite old, but they were regularly maintained, so they still appeared orderly and beautiful.
Chu Jiadong opened the trunk and took out the gifts he had brought, handing them to his eldest son. He instructed, “You haven’t been here in a while. Carry these upstairs later and greet your grandparents first.”
Chu Xiaoyi rubbed his nose, hurriedly took the fruits and medicines, and replied somewhat guiltily, “Oh…”
Chu Xiaoyi indeed hadn’t seen his grandparents for a long time and wasn’t sure how his parents had explained it to them. He felt even more like a clueless blockhead over the past five years, only able to act as a courier now, trying to make up for lost time.
Chu Xiaoxiao curiously peered at what her brother was holding. Chu Jiadong ruffled her hair and said, “Xiaoxiao, do you remember this place? Last time, you were being carried around.”
Chu Xiaoxiao was only three and a half years old now, and her memories of the past two years weren’t very deep. Children change every day, and things are different even after a couple of months.
Her memories from when she was a baby were limited, so she had to search her mind and hesitated as she said, “Grandpa seemed to have a lot of small pots and small bowls, and he cooked on small plates.”
Chu Xiaoyi pondered in confusion and then quipped, “…Are you talking about Grandpa’s tea set?”
Grandpa Jitong was deeply passionate about tea and would often practice calligraphy when he had free time, exhibiting the refined demeanor of literature from the past. He had a complete set of specially crafted tea utensils, and each tea brewing session had a strong sense of ritual.
The room would be filled with mist and the aroma of tea, although in the eyes of Chu Xiaoxiao, it was just a small table for heating water—overly elaborate.
The family of four arrived at the door carrying their belongings, followed by a group of photographers. Chu Xiaoyi was assigned to lead the way, mainly because he hadn’t been seen for a long time and needed to say something first.
Nervously, he pressed the doorbell and after a moment, he saw his grandmother, Lu Sumin’s face, and quickly said, “Grandma…”
Before Chu Xiaoyi could finish speaking, Grandma Lu Sumin had already excitedly grabbed his hand and warmly pulled him into the house, saying, “Oh, my grandson, our family’s big star is finally done being busy and has come back…”
Chu Xiaoyi didn’t need to explain anything. The enthusiastic Lu Sumin led them inside, calling out, “Old Xiao! Old Xiao, come out!”
Grandfather Xiao Ji hurriedly rushed over in a fluster, and the room instantly filled with a joyous atmosphere, becoming lively.
Lu Sumin was a cheerful and warm-hearted elderly lady. She didn’t forget to greet her granddaughter either, touching Chu Xiaoxiao’s chubby little face and repeatedly asking, “Xiaoxiao, do you remember Grandma? Do you remember Grandma?”
Faced with Grandma’s utmost affection, Chu Xiaoxiao didn’t dare to move. She pecked like a little chicken and said, “I remember, I remember…”
After Xiao Bi changed her shoes and entered the house, she asked, “Mom, when did you guys return from my brother’s place?”
“It was just two weeks ago!”
Lu Sumin noticed a cameraman crouching in the corner and quickly helped him up, surprised as she asked, “Young man, what are you doing crouching there? Why don’t you sit in a chair?”
Xiao Bi and the others had informed Grandma in advance about the recording of the program, but evidently, she wasn’t quite clear on the process. Lu Sumin felt that the cameramen were also visiting guests and shouldn’t be crouching in a corner.
