The Villainess is Three and a Half Years Old - Chapter 73.1
Following the night rain, clear skies emerged, and the scent of damp earth mingled with the refreshing aroma of vegetation, wafting in through the open windows.
From the time she had chickenpox until now, Ye Yaya had remained indoors. She lay propped on the windowsill, watching the children and their parents stroll by with a hint of envy.
“Are you feeling better?” The trees outside swayed with the gentle breeze as Heshan greeted her. “Would you like to come out and play with us?”
Ye Yaya lightly picked at the scab that hadn’t completely healed on her hand and turned her head in the direction of Ye Linchuan. Shaking her head, she expressed her disappointment, “Ah Di won’t let me go out…”
The young sapling didn’t quite understand: “But aren’t you the head of the family? Why would you listen to what that human says?”
While refraining from asking might have been better, questioning brought forth a flood of sorrow in Ye Yaya’s heart. With a melancholic sigh, she replied, “[Sigh], the power has changed hands a long time ago.”
The title that once belonged to Ye Yaya had long since faded away – it had ceased to exist from the day she was spanked. Now, it was a world dominated by the “Ah Di” surname.
Supporting her cheeks with both hands, Ye Yaya swung her feet and said, “But I’ll be able to go to school on Monday.” Ah Di had consulted the doctor earlier; the doctor had explained that the scabbing of chickenpox was a sign of recovery and that as long as she patiently waited for it to fall off, it wouldn’t hinder her from attending school. Thus, Ah Di agreed to let her go to kindergarten, and Teacher Liu even mentioned arranging a performance opportunity for her next Saturday.
The thought of being able to go out immediately filled Ye Yaya with joy. She nodded enthusiastically.
“Ye Yaya, do you want to go out and play with your big brother?” While conversing with the young sapling, Ye Zhiyu approached.
Ye Yaya blinked her eyes and firmly declined, “No, Ye Yaya can’t go out anymore. The old witch is still watching me.” As a gust of chilly wind blew in, she shivered, hurriedly seeking refuge in Ye Zhiyu’s embrace, burying her head against his chest, trembling.
Ye Zhiyu was puzzled, offering reassurance, “My dad said there are a lot of procedures for leaving the country, and plane tickets are expensive. The witch won’t come all the way here just for you. You can rest assured.”
“She… she came here illegally!” Ye Yaya couldn’t listen any further. She had behaved well over the past few days, so the old witch hadn’t allowed the itching to continue. But if her behavior slipped, the old witch would undoubtedly return.
The mere thought of it was terrifying.
Ye Zhiyu pursed his lips and asked, “So, if Dad agrees, does that mean it’s settled?”
Ye Yaya nodded.
“Alright then, I’ll go ask Dad.” Holding Ye Yaya’s hand, Ye Zhiyu ran up to Ye Linchuan, who was working. His abdomen tensed and bellowed, “Dad!!”
Ye Linchuan’s hand shook, and a buzzing echoed in his ears.
“I’m not deaf!!”
“Can I take Ye Yaya out for a walk? Look, she’s turning into a quail from being cooped up at home.”
Ye Yaya tilted her head in confusion, “What does ‘quail’ mean?”
Ye Zhiyu explained without missing a beat, “It means you’re getting chubby.”
Chubby?
Ye Yaya lowered her head and pinched the soft flesh on her belly.
Ye Linchuan looked at the two children, then gazed at the deep blue sky outside. He thought that keeping children indoors for too long wasn’t good, especially since the doctor had said it was fine to attend school. There was no harm in letting them go out and get some fresh air.
“Go ahead, but only within the community, and don’t wander.”
Ye Zhiyu’s eyebrows lifted in delight, and he rushed back inside to fetch Ye Yaya’s hat.
Ye Linchuan, uneasy with his overly elated expression, couldn’t help but say, “Maybe you should call your brother back. You’re going out alone…”
“No need for my brother!” Ye Zhiyu impatiently interjected. “My brother is preparing for the Qingbei University entrance exam. Dad, don’t disturb his studies.”
Ye Qinghe and Shen Zhou went to the library in the morning, and Shen Ran followed to join the fun. However, Ye Ziyu knew he wasn’t there to study, but to satisfy his craving for the popsicles from the cold drink shop next to the library.
Ye Linchuan found the reasoning sound and simply let it be.
Ye Ziyu put a hat on Ye Yaya and led her out.
Just last night, there was summer rain. The stone bricks underfoot hadn’t completely dried yet. The nearby leaves, bathed in raindrops, were green and translucent, stretching their branches and leaves under the gentle sunlight.
Ye Yaya’s small hand was tightly held by Ye Ziyu. She took laborious steps, following his pace. After walking for a while, she felt something was off and looked up, asking, “Brother, Ah Di said we can only stay within the community and can’t wander around.”
“Yes, he did say that.”
Ye Yaya: “But we’re already out of the community.”
Not too far, just a step outside the gate.
Ye Ziyu: “He said you can’t leave the community, but he didn’t say we can’t. Did he specifically mention that Ye Yaya and Ye Ziyu can’t leave the community?”
Ye Yaya earnestly recollected what Ye Linchuan had said before, it seemed he hadn’t…
Still feeling somewhat uneasy, she nodded hesitantly, “Well, um…”
“It’s okay, we’re just going to the park across the street. Technically, that small park is still part of our community.”
The park was on the other side of the road, where Aunt Qian usually danced square dances with her friends. Sometimes Ye Linchuan would also jog there to exercise. Roughly speaking, it was still part of their community.
Amid hesitation, Ye Yaya was led into the park by Ye Ziyu.
