Could you please be careful? (10)
Another uneventful day passed, followed by more of the same. Doyun and I continued to go out.
We bought the clothes and sneakers I had been looking forward to, and when the fridge started to look empty, we headed to the supermarket. Being aware of my pregnancy, Doyun did all the heavy lifting, and I merely pointed out what we needed.
“I can carry that much at least.”
“If my mom finds out, she’ll kill me.”
“I won’t tell her.”
“Just hand it over.”
He wouldn’t even let me carry a carton of eggs. I’m still perfectly capable, really.
Watching Doyun manage all our bags, I couldn’t help but think of Merson. Whether I was pregnant or not, Merson always made sure I never had to carry anything. His tenderness overlapped in my mind with what I was seeing now.
“I really miss him.”
That thought brought worry. If Merson knew I was gone, he would surely cause a commotion. I remembered how he had once demolished the entirety of Count Abitz’s mansion. I couldn’t even imagine what he might be doing now.
Please, just stay calm.
Don’t get hurt.
As I looked up at the clear sky and prayed like I was grasping at straws.
“Unknown god, I promise to pray more and even visit temples, just please let me be with Merson again.”
I murmured so softly only I could hear. Just then.
Boom!
“Ah, that scared me!”
Thunder roared in the clear sky, startling not only me but everyone around as well.
“Is it going to rain?”
But with the few clouds quickly dispersing and the sky remaining an undisturbed blue, it seemed unlikely that any rain would fall anytime soon.

“Who would have thought I’d meet you again before a thousand years had passed.”
The pink hair fluttered in the gentle breeze. Tied back and hanging long, the ends of her hair became dampened by the sea.
Perched atop a small boat, ‘Erina’ gazed endlessly into the deep waters as if someone resided within them.
Kayle, appearing in a flash of blue light, felt his heart quicken at the sight of Erina. Despite knowing she was just a shell, not the real Erina, his body reacted on its own.
“Erase that image now.”
“Why? You missed your partner, didn’t you?”
“Erase it.”
Darkness enveloped the space, the seemingly eternal blue sea turned sinister. The stable boat began to sway perilously.
“You used to call out ‘God, God, God’ and followed obediently.”
Erina, or God taking her form, sneered at the growing turbulence. He then dipped his face into the water, blowing a gust of wind, and miraculously, the dark energies washed away.
“This is my realm. I won’t tolerate contamination.”
Kayle grabbed God’s collar, dragging him closer. God put up his hands in surprise, yet annoyingly, his face was still full of smiles.
“Is this how you treat the woman you love?”
“Open the gate.”
Anger seeped through his teeth. Kayle couldn’t wait any longer. He needed the real Erina right before his eyes. Every second felt as if his organs twisted, and blood drained from his body.
“Calm down a bit.”
“I don’t have time to play.”
Kayle applied force, and God, in Erina’s form, lifted off the ground. Though his neck was clearly strangled, his expression remained serene.
God, who was held in place, took Kayle’s bulging hand in his. The playfulness in his eyes vanished, replaced by the sweet gaze of a woman looking at her beloved.
“Merson, I’ve missed you.”
Kayle began to waver. His eyes shook, and his grip loosened.
“Now, give me a kiss.”
But it was only for a moment. Disturbed, Kayle furrowed his brow and pushed God away forcefully again.
“Stop talking nonsense.”
“Ah, I thought you’d fall for that.”
Kayle’s patience was wearing thin, contrasting with God’s consistently relaxed demeanor. It was unclear how long it had taken him to reach this place—days, weeks, maybe more?
In a realm belonging solely to God, not the divine realm nor the demon realm, untraceable on any map and unreachable by mortal steps, Kayle had raced here through endless blue corridors just to find Erina. If anyone could open the portal, it was this omnipotent being.
“Open the gate!”
“Let me go first so I can open it.”
Despite the smile, God felt cornered. The increasingly irate demon king seemed threatening even to him.
Quirky, willful, and merciless, he was unpopular among the deities, but God rather liked him. The reason was simple: he was honest and strong.
God had experienced countless eons before the stars were born, and had never met a more powerful demon king than Kayle. His uninvited arrival in the space was indeed extraordinary.
‘Erina must be having a hard time.’
He thought bitterly to himself.
Finally freed, God stretched his arms high up. Kayle looked like he was about to throw a punch at any moment.
“It’s generally not so easy to open dimensions like this.”
“Open it.”
“…Well, I suppose it’s partly my fault, isn’t it?”
Before Kayle could say or do anything more, God dipped his hand into the sea below.
The calm waters stirred, creating a whirlpool in front of the small boat. The whirlpool, studded with white lights, seemed almost like a gateway to another place.
“There’s something you should know. If you fall now, I can’t guarantee when you’ll arrive. And don’t torment that child too much. Make sure to tell her I’m sorry when you meet her. We’ll discuss the details back here later.”
Kayle paid no attention to God’s words. Sighing, the deity muttered, “I’m just wasting my breath.”
“Then farewell.”
Just as he had with Erina, God didn’t hesitate to push Kayle’s back.
The water enveloped him as the whirlpool diminished in size. As the hole shrank until it disappeared, leaving no trace, God shook his hands as if ridding them of dust.
“The reason for why it took so long is my mischief—a price for scaring you.”
