Could you please be careful? (14)

I didn’t want to believe it. It couldn’t be Merson scaring me with that face, that voice.

Yet, absurdly, Merson, with the same scent I had always known, approached closely. His hand seemed to graze my throat before settling on my shoulder. His cheek brushed against mine.

“I’m Kayle.”

…It’s dizzying.

My tongue felt tingling, and the heaviness deep in my throat left me unable to speak.

Even though his name was indeed Kayle, why did it sound so unfamiliar? I didn’t know it would hurt so much to hear you say Kayle instead of Merson.

I couldn’t ask why this was happening, how he ended up here, or what emotions he was feeling. I was helpless.

“Did you think that just running away would end everything?”

“……”

“Did you enjoy the brief freedom?”

His voice was skewed, a low, suppressed growl in every word.

I pushed against his chest with trembling hands. But Merson, standing firm, pushed me back several steps.

“…I didn’t run away.”

What happened while I was away? What made you like this?

Though he had no visible injuries, he looked like a defeated soldier on the brink of death, pushing me away.

“So, what are you doing here?”

“Ser, Serdebella forced me into this place…”

“Then why…!!”

The shout made the murmurs around us die away under Merson’s overwhelming presence.

I was frozen, unable to move a finger, caught in the eye of the storm. I couldn’t even struggle, spinning helplessly.

Perhaps it was due to the once-clear skies, but the storm came without warning and was more than enough to engulf me.

Merson brushed his black hair back. It was not because it was in his way or clinging to his face, but to suppress the emotions erupting from within, to bottle them up.

“…You’re laughing when I’m not around?”

My heart that was shattered, rolled mercilessly on the ground.

“…It’s a mistake. Listen to me.”

“You promised you wouldn’t leave me. You said you’d stay by my side.”

“Yes, that’s right. And I still mean it.”

I spoke with great effort. Trying to control my agitated breathing and trembling voice.

However, Merson, unable to calm his agitation , acted as if he didn’t hear me. He shoved me away from Doyun and stepped closer to Doyun’s fallen head.

“Don’t. I told you not to do it!”

I was truly anxious, fearing that Merson might actually kill Doyun. There was no way to stop him.

I could see through Merson’s cold glare that Doyun’s body was already so badly damaged it was barely recognizable. And it wouldn’t remain just a figment of my imagination.

I ran over and grabbed his arm, trying to pull him away. I tugged, hit, and scratched him, but Merson remained unmoved.

“Why are you doing this! I told you not to. If you touch even a single hair on Doyun’s head, I’ll hate you forever. I really hate seeing you like this!”

It was a threat, but the tone was one of desperation, pleading. I shouted while crying, but Merson continued to raise his arm. I couldn’t let Doyun die like this.

Even in the midst of being completely drunk and disoriented, the shoes he had bought for his nephew were scattered at my feet. I thought of the kind-hearted woman who had genuinely worried about me and taken care of me, and the warm feelings I had received from those two people pierced sharply through my heart.

I threw myself over Doyun’s body, wrapping my arms around him. My knees hurt from the impact, but I had no time to concern myself with such details. I closed my eyes tightly and struggled to cover his body with my trembling arms.

“……”

But even after a considerable amount of time, nothing changed. In fact, a part of me knew and believed that Merson would not harm me.

But there was another part I did not understand.

“……”

The one in mortal danger was not Doyun, but Merson himself, right in front of me.

He was dying. His once strong arms were now limp, his eyes hollow with deep-seated despair. His feelings were conveyed to me in full.

Merson slowly lowered himself. He knelt on one knee, bringing himself to my eye level, and gently cupped my chin.

“……Say you love me, even if you have to force it. Not that bastard, but me.”

“……”

“If you want to save him.”

I loved only you.

I wanted to say that.

But his relentless kiss swallowed up my words.

His lips, biting down hard enough to taste the bitter blood, a continuous flow of sticky saliva kept pouring into my mouth. My throat moved involuntarily as I had no choice but to swallow what Merson gave me.

A mad, obsessive desire wrapped around my entire being.

When his rough, aggressive lips finally pulled away, I gasped for air.

“I can hold you here.”

“……”

“Right in front of that bastard.”

The misunderstanding was spiraling out of control. I couldn’t tell what he had heard or seen.

Merson seemed as if he wanted to mark me as his own in front of everyone. It was something a Demon King, who could have whatever he wanted and do whatever he pleased, would find completely natural.

As I looked around, I saw several people pulling out their smartphone cameras. I discreetly released some of my magic, causing all of them to malfunction.
