Since then, Merson’s already unusual behavior intensified. Even if I only stepped out of bed for a moment, he would swoop me up.
“…The bathroom is just five steps away.”
It was the same when we went outside. Although my clothes were a bit thin for the chilly autumn weather, they didn’t warrant wrapping up in Merson’s thick fur cloak.
Still, he wrapped me up tightly, turning me into a human cocoon, and then effortlessly carried me. I had to immediately pull at his cheeks and yell for him to put me down.
I was worried about Doyun, so I hurried to the house. By the way, I was concerned about how to introduce Merson.
“I said my husband was dead.”
“…I’m dead?”
Oops, I hadn’t mentioned that.
“There were circumstances, circumstances.”
After brushing it off, I thought about how to explain my relationship with Merson. Saying he was my real brother wouldn’t work—he didn’t look anything like me (it would be a serious case of genetic defect). An ex-boyfriend? No. A friend seemed like the most fitting description…
I covered Merson’s face with my hand to avoid his intense gaze.
His stare was too blatant. Anyone, even if they spun around a hundred times, would clearly see that he loved me.
And there were other issues.
Without the cloak and cumbersome accessories, his clothes weren’t particularly eye-catching. The fitted black pants and shirt were common enough here. But the real focus wasn’t his clothing, it was his appearance.
I wanted to teleport, but I couldn’t risk running into someone at home or finding an empty space in the middle of Seoul. So, I ended up choosing to walk, which didn’t seem like a great choice either.
As soon as we stepped outside, a group of high school girls who came face-to-face with us started looking Merson up and down, whispering if he was a celebrity.
Then, one of the girls suggested he looked like someone from a movie, and replies of “Yeah, I’ve seen that too” and “Definitely!” followed.
I wish they’d tell me which movie. I’ll check if it’s our Merson or not.
Soon, I saw a phone being raised towards Merson.
I hurriedly pulled on Merson’s clothing and pulled him into the building where the Aunt lives.
“It’s a good thing the house is close by.”
Leaving the puzzled Merson behind, I walked toward the now-familiar front door.
I felt a pressing time constraint to figure out how to explain my relationship with Merson. Oh well, I’ll just pick the first thing that comes to mind.
“Let’s say you’re my husband’s brother.”
“No, I don’t like that.”
“Since I came to Korea with a child, you followed me out of concern. After all, it’s your sibling’s child.”
“I’m the father.”
“No, that’s not it…”
I was already feeling frustrated by his stubbornness.
“Who says that’s really the case? You’re just trying to kiss me.”
Kiss.
Before I even finished speaking, I felt a soft touch on my lips, then it was gone.
“Want another?”
Merson tilted his head and asked playfully, just inches from my nose.
“I can’t say anything.”
Knowing that answering ‘yes’ would lead to more than just a cute kiss, I tapped his forehead against his to push him away.
It was impossible to convince him with conventional reasoning. Clearly, ‘white lies’ were not part of Merson’s vocabulary. As expected, a single action was far more effective than hundreds of explanations.
With both hands firmly placed on my waist, I slightly turned my head to give him a glare.
“Yesterday, you didn’t listen to me either, and nothing has changed.”
Merson’s face, which had been intently focused, suddenly turned cold. With a pained expression as if someone had struck his chest, he clutched his heart and then hugged me tightly.
“Let go. I’m the fool for trusting you.”
“I’m sorry, Erina.”
“You’re just going to do whatever you want without considering my situation, aren’t you? If that’s the case, why even live with me?”
“No, no. I was wrong. Please don’t do this.”
He was holding on so tightly that I could feel the weight of his chin on my shoulder. His voice trembled with anxiety, as if he might fly away at any moment.
“I think I heard an apology yesterday too. Is this the end if we get through this situation?”
Even though it was uncomfortable to lash out when we had just reunited after so long, it was a necessary step for a more complete disguise.
“I remember everything Erina said. I didn’t take a single word lightly.”
“So what? You’re still acting like a spoiled child?”
“I won’t do it again. I’m sorry.”
“Ha, I can’t believe it… Are you really?”
“If Erina wants, I can be a dog.”
Just one sentence was enough to show that he was sincere.
Even though I shouldn’t be feeling this way, his flustered state was so adorable that I couldn’t help but smile foolishly. However, I maintained a completely composed and cold face and patted his back a couple of times.
“Let go.”
“……”
Taking a few steps back, he couldn’t take his eyes off me. I crossed my arms and asked Merson again.
“Will you do as I say?”
“Of course.”
“Even if you don’t like it?”
“My feelings don’t matter.”
“…Alright. I’ll give you a chance.”
Only then did Merson regain his smile, repeatedly nodding in agreement. Training the Demon King was becoming quite a challenge.
