After Li Qianfei came home, she hurriedly spilled everything she knew about Li Xiao.

“Mom, we need to hurry and bring back Uncle Zeng. What will we do if Li Xiao retaliates against us?” Li Qianfei had never missed Uncle Zeng so much.

Zhan Jiayin was hesitant. “If your father knew, he wouldn’t be happy.”

Zhan Jiayin was having a tough time. Her reputation was plummeting, and she couldn’t find any roles. It was as if she had returned to her rookie years 20 years ago. Although Nanjue was helping her buy water armies, the negative comments were still rolling in without Li Qianxing to help out.

If it wasn’t for Nanjue’s assistance, Zhan Jiayin’s mother-in-law would’ve forced them to get a divorce already. Currently, Zhan Jiayin was living in a house under her own name. She didn’t want to go back to the main house for the fear of meeting her angry mother-in-law.

Hearing her mother mention her father made Li Qianfei increasingly annoyed.

“Dad has changed. He doesn’t care about us anymore. He’s completely on Li Xiao’s side.” When he found out that Li Qianfei tried to frame Li Xiao, Li Nanjue changed his mind about giving Li Qianfei and Li Qianxing company shares. Together, Li Qianfei and Li Qianxing were losing 10% of the company shares. To make things worse, Li Qianfei’s allowance had been cut. She was miserable, while Li Xiao was doing just fine. When Li Qianfei thought about her miserable situation, her resentment toward Li Nanjue grew.

Li Qianfei thought spitefully to herself, ‘If only Mom hadn’t married Dad. Uncle Ren and Uncle Zeng wouldn’t have treated them this poorly. They would’ve treasured her and her mother.’

To begin with, Zhan Jiayin was a gullible person, so upon hearing Li Qianfei’s words, her expression became increasingly conflicted.

Li Qianfei continued to try to persuade her mother. As she gnashed her teeth, she said, “Mom, if we continue to put up with this, the Xu family will be our downfall. It’s Li Xiao’s fault that we’ve been so unlucky recently. Uncle Zeng is the only person that can help us.”

Li Qianfei didn’t want to end up miserable as she had in her dream. God had sent her that prophetic dream to remind her to not make the same mistakes. If she stopped now, what was the point of everything she had done uptil now?

Zhan Jiayin had also grown tired of her current situation. She nodded her head at the sight of her teary-eyed daughter.

“Your Uncle Zeng also gave me another phone number.”

At that time, he had told Zhan Jiayin to use another number to call him if it was something very urgent.

Zhan Jiayin took out her phone and dialed his number.

The next night, she met up with Zeng Lunian. Although he wore a hat that covered most of his face, Zhan Jiayin was still able to recognize him. Whenever Zeng Lunian dressed in black, he always looked very aloof.

“Jiayin.” His deep voice was overflowing with affection, which pained Zhan Jiayin. Lunian must’ve been injured, otherwise, he would’ve visited her sooner.

Were there people chasing him?

When Zhan Jiayin stepped forward, she saw Zeng Lunian’s face, which he had kept hidden behind a hat. 

She screamed.

Zeng Lunian’s handsome face turned grotesque. His cheeks were rotting and covered in festering blisters. 

“W-What happened to your face?” Zhan Jiayin ignored her urge to run away.

“I messed up my cultivation. Are you afraid?” Zeng Lunian hoarsely asked.

Zhan Jiayin pursed her lips. “I’m not scared. No matter what you turn into, I know you won’t hurt me.”

Zeng Lunian couldn’t help but smile. Jiayin was such a kind person—the only person he was willing to protect.

When he was handsome, his smile made people’s heart throb. But now, the smile that appeared on his mutilated face made Zhan Jiayin lower her head.

To distract herself, she began to talk about Li Xiao.

“Fei’er said that Li Xiao vowed to fight you. I’m a little worried.”

Before Zeng Lunian came over, he had checked on Li Qianfei. The scales he had placed on Fei’er were gone, and her qi was depleted. He knew his body would suffer from the aftereffects of this.

Although Fei’er had said Li Xiao was causing trouble, Zeng Lunian had his doubts. He had seen Li Xiao before and knew what she was capable of. Even if she was the one behind it all, she definitely had someone helping her behind the scenes.

Zeng Lunian had helped Jiayin deal with the Xu family. But in the process, he had left a few traces, and now there were multiple people looking for him. He still didn’t want to show himself. And if Li Xiao died in S City, the blame would go to Jiayin—his only weakness. He didn’t want her to be hurt or have her reputation be sullied. 

A light smile flitted across his lips. “Tell Li Xiao I’ll be at Yun Miao Mountain.”

“What if she really comes to find you?” Zhan Jiayin said anxiously.

“It’ll be fine. Yun Miao Mountain is my territory. I’m in charge there,” Zeng Lunian reassured her.

His confidence soothed the unease within Zhan Jiayin’s heart.
