The table was silent for a long time before Lin’s father opened his mouth, seemed rather tired. He said in a weak voice, “That’s enough. Let’s eat.”

Wu Xiao Han wanted to say something else, but after looking at Lin’s father’s expression, she said nothing. She even gave him a piece of ribs.

No matter how much they argue, they were still a family.

Only Lin Yu He on the other side had no reaction.

From the beginning until the end, Lin Yu He was not bothered by their actions.

After a silent meal, it was almost ten o’clock. Outside, it was raining, drizzling, and never stopped. Yan City was located in the north, so it hardly rained during winter. But when it did, the rain would bring forth wetness and coldness that penetrate the bones.

Lin’s father called out to Lin Yu He, “Xiao He, it’s the weekend tomorrow. There’s no class, so stay here tonight.”

Wu Xin flipped through the files and also said, “There are still some things about the Lu family that I haven’t finished telling you last time, so I could show you the rest tomorrow.”

Hence, Lin Yu He stayed. The maid had cleaned up a guest room for Lin Yu He. He went into the guest room and read a book. Although he had the weekend free from classes, there were still assignments to be completed.

Lin’s father wanted to talk to his son, but he hesitated, not knowing how to start the conversation. He started with nothing, and now owned his own pharmaceutical company. His career had been smooth-sailing, and he possessed a wide network of connections and gained many close friends. Almost everyone who interacted with him would praise his character and his ability. However, at this moment, he felt so helpless.

Just the thought of looking for his son made him nervous. He even felt a little afraid to see those overly calm eyes. Lin’s father was thinking about this when the bedroom door was pushed open and Wu Xin walked in.

She was answering the phone, her face full of smiles and her tone enthusiastic. “Yes. It’s the weekend, so it’s good to go out and have a good time together to nurture the relationship.”

“Okay.”

She answered in a polite manner, and her smile disappeared once the call ended. The enthusiasm and politeness she had just shown were gone, and she frowned, then cursed under her breath.

Lin’s father asked, “What’s wrong?”

Wu Xin replied, “What else? The marriage, of course.”

“Is it a call from the Lu family? Did something happen?” Lin’s father asked.

Wu Xin rubbed her temple. “Not really a problem, it was just Mr. Lu’s assistant. He called and said he would come to pick him up tomorrow.”

“Xiao He? Then it’s really not a problem. It’s good to go out for a stroll,” Lin’s father comforted her.

Wu Xin frowned disapprovingly. “I’ve already told him I would continue the talk this Saturday, but he chose this day to go out.”

Lin’s father said, “It’s not Xiao He’s decision, it’s Mr. Lu’s decision. It doesn’t have to be tomorrow. There’s still another time to talk about it.”

Hearing the familiar gentle voice, Wu Xin finally eased her tone. “I’m just worried that he hasn’t understood the rules and offends Mr. Lu.”

Wu Xin finally calmed down after she was convinced by Lin’s father. However, she did not give up. Early in the morning of the next day, she took out the files during breakfast and told Lin Yu He, “You’re going out with Mr. Lu later, right? Let’s get started now so we could finish on time.”

Lin Yu He had not been feeling well since he woke up in the morning. His throat felt uncomfortable and his mouth was painfully dry, so he was aware that his lips would crack and bleed if he spoke up, thus he remained silent.

Wu Xin saw his reaction and felt irritated while thinking, “What kind of attitude is this?”

“Let’s finish eating first. It won’t take that long. Han Han’s share is already set aside. She can heat it up and eat it when she wakes up,” Lin’s father said.

Wu Xin did not like her husband taking Lin Yu He’s side. She had a good relationship with him, otherwise, she would not have married him despite the difference in societal standing. However, that was also why she was very conscious of matters related to his ex-wife. She was unwilling to think of when his tenderness was once shared with someone else.

The fact that her husband’s ex had passed away didn’t affect their relationship by much. However, Lin Yu He, who looks like her husband’s ex, was still around, and thus Wu Xin did not feel too good about her stepson. Hence, Wu Xin said nothing, even if her anger had not subsided because of Lin’s father.
