A Sword of Frost - Chapter 5
A Theft In The Palace (1.5)
“Hey!” Yun Yifeng called out to stop him.
“I know.” Ji Yanran raised his right hand to show that he would keep his promise, “I won’t cause trouble.”
Outside, Ji’s attendants were dizzy with all the chaos. Yun Yifeng was well known and naturally there were many people who wanted to come pay their respects. They chased away one after another, the number of people who kept approaching the room was endless. Two sects even accused each other of jumping the line and almost had a fight.
When dinner was held in the evening, Yue Mingwei, who had heard about the incident and felt quite guilty, said, “The poor reception and manners must have frightened Master Yun.”
“Chief Yue, you’re too polite.” Yun Yifeng smiled, “These are all trivial matters.”
“The weather in the northeast is cold and Master Yun has not yet healed from his cough. It should have been quieter to aid your recuperation.” Yue Mingwei said, “The house is really noisy. If Master Yun is not opposed, I have a snow appreciation pavilion, Shang Xue Pavilion, built at Piao Miao. It’s elegant and simple, and it’s perfect for tasting tea and resting.”
Yun Yifeng remained silent as he listened. He secretly wondered, why would this person want to ‘chase’ him to the top of the mountain? Could it be that he had noticed something?
But before he could speak, someone outside the door joked, “Why, Shang Xue Pavilion is such a great place and Uncle Yue is only willing to let Master Yun stay there? That’s really stingy of you, I’ve long wanted to go and take a look.”
The thick curtain covering the entrance was lifted, and a cold northerly wind blew in. The young man, who came in with the wind, was dressed in a brown brocade robe with a long Seven Star sword at his waist, and a white ferret in his hand. He was the Young Master of the Jincheng Escort Bureau and he was called Jin Huan. The middle-aged man who followed him was Jin Manlin, the head of the Jincheng Escort Bureau
Yue Mingwei smiled and said, “If my nephew wants to go, he just has to say it. Why bother making fun of your Uncle Yue?”
“That’s a deal.” Jin Huan turned around again and said respectfully, “My respects to Master Yun.”
Yun Yifeng replied, “I haven’t seen you for a few years, Brother Jin’s penchant for fun and teasing has not changed at all.”
“This is not me joining in the fun.” Jin Huan said, “Piao Miao is as beautiful as a fairyland, and the Shang Xue Pavilion is wonderfully crafted. In summer, just gazing at the gardens and the plants is like witnessing a miracle on earth, not to mention hiding under the snow in winter. Good wine, good food, and the sound of the zither make the world a much happier place.”
Jin Manlin scolded, “In front of so many guests, don’t you feel any shame showing that everything you know concerns drinking and having fun!”
“Chief Jin, that’s where you’re wrong.” Someone retorted from amongst the dining hall. “Everyone has an appreciation for beauty, not to mention the beautiful sceneries of the world. Listening to Brother Jin, I would also like to have a taste, but I’m not sure if I would be intruding upon Master Yun?” That person was dressed in a white cotton robe, and his voice was thin and weak. He didn’t have the looks of a man from the pugilistic world, but those of a scholar.
Sure enough, Yue Mingwei heard the words and said worriedly, “Piao Miao is vertiginous and steep, and the path is rugged. Can you really climb it?”
The scholar stubbornly said, “If I walk slowly, I can. For a person who can walk for one day, I will walk for three to five days. “
“If the scenery is really that good, why don’t I tag along?” A pretty girl also stood up. The crescent flower on the middle of her brow made her look clever and lively, but her slick black eyes were unwaveringly glued to Master Yun.
Some of the guests snickered, seeing through her ulterior motive, which was not to partake in the wine tasting. Master Yun was young, promising and very handsome. Plus, it was said that Feng Yu Sect had money piled up like mountains, so of course girls would be interested.
Yun Yifeng frowned slightly, he was just about to say that he did not want to go to some random mountain peak, when Yue Mingwei said, “It’s okay if more people come, but there is already a guest living in the Shang Xue Pavilion, who has a weird temper. Everyone, if you go, don’t bother him, lest there be disputes.”
Jin Huan asked, “Who lives there?”
Yue Mingwei said, “Mu Chengxue.”
Upon hearing this name, Yun Yifeng’s heart pounded and he exchanged a glance with Ji Yanran.
They were initially trying to find an excuse to get close to the weird assassin, but now, it seemed like it wouldn’t take much effort.
……
Shang Xue Pavilion was indeed exquisitely built but it only had a few rooms, and guests could only go there alone. As for Ji’s attendants, they would continue to stay in the Yue’s Escort Bureau.
The attendants said, “Your Highness, please go ahead and meet with that Mu Chengxue. We will take care of things and ensure no slip-ups.”
“Aren’t you worried?” Yun Yifeng leaned against the corridor as he asked Ji Yanran, “What if the relic is no longer in Mu Chengxue’s hands, but is hidden in Yue’s Escort Bureau?”
Ji Yanran shook his head, “I don’t think so. Given Mu Chengxue’s habits, if the transaction had been completed, he would definitely not stay with the Yue family.”
Yun Yifeng smiled and said, “Your Highness understands the inner workings of the pugilistic world quite well.”
“In order to do something, you have to know your opponent’s temperament and character very well.” Ji Yanran said, “It’s just troublesome for you, Master Yun, to follow me into potential danger again. “
Yun Yifeng, who habitually rubbed the Blood Ganoderma Lucidum hanging on his chest, said with gentleness, “That’s alright.”
Ji’s attendants, “…”
We have sinned.
