A Sword of Frost - Chapter 6
Snow Sealed Mountain (2.1)
There weren’t many people going to Shang Xue Pavilion this time. Jincheng Escort Bureau’s father and son had set off first. As for the weak scholar, Qi Ran was the son of Old Master Qi —the owner of that colourful, flowery lucky chair that they had seen at the market fair. He was sent by his father to celebrate Yue Mingwei’s birthday. Due to his weak constitution, a short servant always followed him around. That small sized servant had a baby face and wore a brocade cotton-padded jacket, making him look quite lovable and auspicious.
In the afternoon, Ji Yanran knocked on the door and said, “Master Yun, the pretty girl from dinner, is standing in the courtyard waiting for you. She has a big bag with her and I heard a servant say that she brought over a dozen new clothes.” It seemed she was going all out to dress up.
“She is Liu Xianxian, a disciple of Suhua Palace, not just a frail lady.” Yun Yifeng said, “When we met last time, I simply acknowledged her.”
Ji Yanran said, “So, Master Yun is implying that the reason why she suddenly acted all tender and gentle is because she had an ulterior motive?”
“I don’t know about other motives, but at least she shouldn’t be plotting against me.” Yun Yifeng said, “Something strange is going on… Your Highness should be more careful.”
After the both of them packed up and exited the room, they saw Liu Xianxian still waiting in the same spot, seemingly determined to climb the mountain together.
Yun Yifeng asked, “Miss, what exactly is your objective?”
Liu Xianxian said, “Master Yun, you should marry me.”
Yun Yifeng was startled, “Why should I marry you?”
“I’m 20 years old this year, I’m at the age to marry and bear children.” Liu Xianxian said, “and of all the young men around, only Master Yun is a little more pleasing to the eye.”
“There are so many well known young heroes, why would Miss Liu choose an extremely sick person like me?” Yun Yifeng spoke earnestly, as he pressed his hand to his chest —Judging by his posture, he was about to descend into a coughing fit. Ji Yanran, who stood to the side, hurriedly shook off his big cloak, wrapped Yun Yifeng up whole and stuffed him into the carriage.
“Hey!” Liu Xianxian stomped her feet. Seeing that the carriage was almost out of the courtyard, she hurriedly chased after them on horseback. Her actions caused the servants to laugh and all of them agreed that this lady was quite impressive —the skin on her face was thicker than a man’s. They wondered if she would be able to win her groom-to-be.
On the way up the mountain, Yun Yifeng asked, “Is she still chasing?”
Ji Yanran glanced outside the carriage and nodded.
Yun Yifeng sighed, “It seems that I will not find peace in my remaining days.”
……
Mist Peak was a highly dangerous terrain —coupled with the cold weather and the frozen ground, even martial arts masters would have to work hard to ascend the mountain. Along the way, Ji Yanran joked, “Are you not going to take a look at that Miss Liu?”
“Since I have no intention of pursuing her, why should I inquire about her well-being or pretend to be enthusiastic?” Yun Yifeng said, “Besides, she is the eldest disciple of Suhua Palace and has more physical strength than a sick person like me. If there is concern to be shown, others should be more concerned about me.”
Ji Yanran took advantage of the situation and held the other man’s arm as if to help him, “Can I take the liberty to ask the Master Yun something?”
Yun Yifeng nodded, “You Highness, please go ahead.”
Ji Yanran said, “Are you cold?”
Yun Yifeng, “…”
On this mountain with endless wind and snow, Ji Yanran was wrapped in a fur cloak and scarf, as his face was hurt by the cold breeze. Yun Yifeng however, only wore a plain white gauze robe with wide sleeves that were being swept around by the wind and a blue jade belt around his waist, which emphasised Yun Yifeng’s thinness and made it seem as if he could be blown away by the wind at any time.
Seeing that the other party didn’t speak, Ji Yanran simply took hold of Yun Yifeng’s wrist to check. The wrist itself was still warm but his cheeks were pale from the cold and his fingertips were freezing, just like a delicate jade craving.
Yun Yifeng stood still, “Has Your Highness touched enough?”
Ji Yanran calmly retracted his hand, “What kind of poison is it exactly?”
“It might taint Your Highness’ ears if I spoke about the evil sects of the pugilistic world” Yun Yifeng smiled, “Anyway, after finding the relic, I can use Blood Ganoderma Lucidum to detoxify the poison so I don’t have to worry about it at this moment.”
Ji Yanran said, “I heard that the most genius doctor lives on the Lost Island in the Southern Sea.”
“I have been there.” Yun Yifeng climbed onto a higher ground, “He was the one who told me about the Blood Ganoderma Lucidum.”
Really? Ji Yanran wrapped his fur cloak tightly and changed the topic.
