Gluttonous Crown Princess - Chapter 30.4
As this thought crossed her mind, her porcelain-like cheeks flushed with a rosy hue. Ahhhhhh, how embarrassing! How could I have thought about wagging my tail at him? I’m not a lustful beast like Qiongqi!
“Y-Your Highness, why are you…?” Tao Tai stammered.
“I saw Linglong helping you with your makeup, and I had the sudden idea to help draw your brows,” replied Pei Yan, his calm gaze taking on a hint of self-reproach as he lowered his head. “I may have crossed a line. I apologise…”
Tao Ti regained her senses and, seeing the sorrowful and guilty look on his face, quickly waved her hand, saying, “No, no, I was just a bit surprised.”
With that, in a bid to comfort Pei Yan, she looked in the mirror and praised, “Your Highness, you did a great job!”
What Pei Yan drew for her were “distant mountain brows”—with brows like distant mountains containing an ink-black charm, and skin like peach blossoms with a smiling air. These brows matched her eye shape perfectly.
She even displayed her face to Linglong and asked, “Linglong, you are an expert in make up. What do you think, don’t the brows His Highness painted look great?”
Linglong took a glance and said with a smile, “Yes. His Highness painted them with care, so of course they look great.”
Seeing this, Pei Yan chuckled lightly, put down the eyebrow pencil, and said gently, “I’ll wait for you outside so as not to disturb you getting ready.”
“Mhm,” replied Tao Ti softly.
After he left, Tao Ti feigned anger and glared at Linglong, “Why didn’t you let me know that His Highness came? Humph, the next time I make something yummy, I won’t give you any!”
Linglong suppressed a smile and said, “Crown Princess, His Highness wanted to help you paint your brows, it’s an intimate act between husband and wife, so how could I dare to speak up and disturb?”
An intimate act between husband and wife…
Tao Ti’s cheeks flushed again, and she bit her red lips, choosing to remain silent.
After about an hour, Tao Ti was done getting ready.
She usually dressed simply and elegantly, but now, all dressed up, she not only left the servants in the Eastern Palace amazed, but also drew a hint of astonishment from Pei Yan when he saw her.
She was so beautiful, so dazzling, that it made people forget about the ordinary and mundane world.
However, the thought that others would also see her like this made him wish he could lock her in a golden chamber, where her beauty would blossom day and night, only for him.
Feeling Pei Yan’s intense gaze, Tao Ti nervously played with her skirt and asked in a soft voice, “Your Highness, is this attire… alright?”
“You look very beautiful,” Pei Yan replied with a warm smile. He then walked over to her with large strides and naturally held her hand.
Tao Ti froze.
Why did he suddenly hold her hand? Were they supposed to start acting affectionate now?
Sensing her trembling fingertips, Pei Yan tightened his grip slightly and said in a gentle tone, “Let’s go, it’s time to set off.”
“Mhm, alright.” Tao Ti’s long lashes trembled, not noticing the intense emotions and desire in his eyes.
—————
Yanshou Lane, Prince Yu’s Residence.
As the largest and most luxurious residence on Yanshou Lane, Prince Yu’s residence occupied about 40 hectares of land, featuring artificial hills, ponds, gardens, pavilions, a Buddhist hall, and thousands of rooms. The layout was vast and extravagantly elegant. The main gate of the residence was particularly imposing, painted a bright vermilion with a finely crafted porch. Two stone lions stood guard at the entrance, exuding an imposing presence.
Starting from nine in the morning, carriages of various kinds began to arrive at the main gate, each more luxurious than the last. There were carriages with emerald canopies and pearl tassels, others with glossy black exteriors and flat roofs, some adorned with colourful glass, and a few with violet canopies and emerald curtains. The procession of carriages was a display of opulence.
Inside the residence, the atmosphere was bustling with people coming and going. Given Prince Yu’s prestigious status, ordinary guests couldn’t even catch a glimpse of him. Handling the guests outside were Prince Yu’s eldest son and several capable descendants, responsible for welcoming male guests in Chengtai Hall. Meanwhile, the eldest son’s wife and daughter-in-law took care of receiving female guests, and they all gathered in Zilan Courtyard.
Upon learning that Emperor Zhaokang had sent the Crown Prince to Prince Yu’s residence to celebrate his birthday, Empress Zhou also instructed her son, the Third Prince Pei Changzhou, to prepare a generous gift and pay his respects to Prince Yu as a sign of filial piety.
Given that Pei Changzhou was attending, his sister, Pei Lingbi, wouldn’t miss such a lively event either. The two siblings brought generous gifts and dressed in their finest attire, arriving at Prince Yu’s residence ahead of the Crown Prince and Crown Princess.
However, the elderly Prince Yu had grown increasingly eccentric with age and had no intention of meeting even princes and princesses.
The eldest son of Prince Yu could only put on a brave face and explain politely to Pei Changzhou and Pei Lingbi that the imperial physician had advised that Prince Yu needed to rest quietly and couldn’t receive guests.
Pei Changzhou felt somewhat aggrieved, thinking that Prince Yu was just putting on airs as an elder. But after some thought, he realised that since he couldn’t meet Prince Yu, Pei Yan would surely face the same situation when he arrived.
At this thought, he felt better and smiled amiably. “Imperial Uncle, you are too polite. Fourth Granduncle is our elder, and if he needs to rest, we, as the younger generation, shouldn’t disturb him of course.”
“Then, Third Prince, please join me in the front hall for some tea,” the eldest son said with a smile. He then instructed his daughter, Pei Simin, “Minmin, take your cousin to Zilan Courtyard to have fun.”
Pei Simin acknowledged the instruction and approached Pei Lingbi with a cheerful smile. “Cousin Lingbi, let’s go. Sister Muyan from the Zhou family and Sister Juan from the Huang family are here too.”
Hearing this, Lady Pei Lingbi raised an eyebrow and asked, “Didn’t Muyan have a bout of spring allergies not long ago? And now she’s already out?”
Pei Simin shrugged, smiling somewhat maliciously. “You’ll see when you go.”
