I Became a Guide For My Childhood Friend - Chapter 110.1
“Excuse me? Oh, are you the owner of these puppies?”
“I’m not their owner. I’ve been taking care of these abandoned ones. I couldn’t keep taking care of them, so I was worried, but luckily this gentleman offered to help!”
“I see! Please come by often.”
The girl’s name was Juliet. She had a soft spot for dogs, and Yernia wasn’t mean enough to tell them not to come around. There was a time when she was haunted by nightmares and couldn’t sleep well at night before the litter of puppies came but that didn’t mean she wanted to live in complete isolation. Juliet smiled again as if hiding the momentary reluctance she felt. The puppies brought a significant change to Juliet’s daily life. Before the puppies came, Yernia couldn’t get a good night’s sleep due to nightmares, so she would be sluggish in the afternoon, not doing anything, and at night, she would be restless, unable to settle down. Cassian, too, had stayed up many nights because of it. Of course, he did it willingly, so Cassian had no complaints. However, the spot next to him felt empty when he opened his eyes. At that moment, Cassian felt like all the blood drained from his body. As he quickly got up and opened the door, he made a puzzled expression.
“Ah, Cassian. Are you up?”
The afternoon sun illuminated the living room. And in the center, there was Yernia, laughing as she was surrounded by puppies.
“Look at this. They’re so cute.”
“…….”
“But why are they so docile? Are puppies usually like this? Your cats weren’t like this, I don’t remember————”
Because they were all asking for pats, Yernia felt a little awkward. But she didn’t dislike it, so she put down the puppy she was holding and patted them one by one. However, as they didn’t return to him, Yernia slowly looked up at the motionless Cassian at the door. Their gazes met.
“Cassian? You haven’t slept?”
In response to those words, Cassian, who had been standing there absentmindedly, moved. He quickly approached and hugged Yernia tightly as if he was about to break her. Surprised by the sudden situation, Yernia couldn’t even push him away and could only blink. Did he have a bad dream? Although Cassian sometimes hugged Yernia while sleeping, this time it seemed different, and Yernia could count on one hand how many times he had hugged her so anxiously.
“You couldn’t sleep?”
Cassian gently released Yernia, who had been trapped in his embrace. Leaving only enough space to face each other, he used his fingertips to gently stroke the bags under Yernia’s eyes. It was a careful touch as if he was handling glass.
“I did sleep. I slept, but I woke up after a short while and couldn’t fall back asleep.”
“You can wake me up. I don’t get tired of playing with you. It’s not tiring at all.”
Yernia did sleep that night. She had slept with Cassian, but she woke up in the middle of the night due to a nightmare. Cassian had always been by Yernia’s side, dealing with her nightmares. He didn’t sleep, patting her back or telling her stories from the past, or singing lullabies. That night brought peace to Yernia, but not to Cassian. Yernia had another nightmare tonight, but she managed not to wake Cassian up by not screaming. She didn’t want to wake someone who was sleeping soundly. Because of her, Cassian couldn’t get a good night’s sleep. Yernia felt sorry for him so she covered his blanket properly, allowing him to sleep soundly. She came out of the room alone, and while looking at the sleeping puppies, she was in the middle of patting the ones who woke up and whimpered.
“Cassian, you’re misunderstanding something.”
“Huh?”
“I like playing with you too.”
Only then did Cassian smile and sat next to Yernia. The arms that tightly pulled Yernia’s back were now gently embracing her waist. Yernia also smiled and leaned her head on Cassian’s shoulder.
“Look at this. They’re so cute. This one has heart-shaped markings on its back.”
Among the puppies, the one with the plumpest and whitest fur had scattered black fur here and there. Seeing the white one, it seemed that the father must have had black fur. The cute heart-shaped black markings on the white fur were adorable. When Yernia showed it to Cassian, he narrowed his eyes.
“I’m a bit flustered by this sudden confession.”
“What?”
“If you want to say you love me, say it with words. This is cute, but…”
Now, even if Cassian said such things, Yerni had reached the point where she could ignore it without much concern.
‘Come to think of it, I’ve never said ‘I love you’ to him.’
Cassian seemed to want to hear it subtly, so Yernia rolled the word ‘love’ on her tongue. Love. Love. But it was difficult to bring that word out of her mouth.
