I Became a Guide For My Childhood Friend - Chapter 114.1
‘If you want to know the meaning of my words, go to the address below. You can go and ask about the Duke’s son.’
The letter consisted only of those two lines. Yernia slowly flipped the letter. However, apart from the capital’s postage, there was no information about the sender.
“What is this? Who sent it?”
Pruna’s villa was practically bought impulsively by Cassian. As they wanted it to be their private space, they never invited other nobles for teatime or held parties. Yernia never mentioned Pruna’s villa to anyone. Thinking about whether there was anyone who might talk about the villa to others except her husband, she couldn’t think of someone else who might have sent the letter.
“Yernia, what are you doing there?” Startled by the sudden voice calling her, Yernia quickly hid the letter as she opened the window to see her mother looking at her. She looked around as if someone might be watching, but there was no one there.
“It seems like a mail came.”
“Oh, it was a letter for another household. I guess the mailman made a mistake.” Yernia replied casually as she discreetly pushed the letter back into her sleeve. The Countess didn’t seem to have any suspicions. Smiling, she extended her arms, and Yernia rushed into her embrace.
“Did you sleep well?”
“Yes, did you?”
It felt like she had returned to her childhood. Seeing her parents made her miss them as well. Her thoughts about them naturally led to thoughts of Seria and Yernia thought she should talk about her sister now. She hadn’t had the chance to bring it up before because she was too busy talking about herself.
“I met Seria.”
“Ceria? Really?”
“Yeah, she came looking for me after running away.”
Yernia confessed that she had helped Seria run away. She was prepared to be scolded, as what she had done was wrong, but the Countess seemed surprised and let out a sigh without saying much.
“Why didn’t you tell me earlier? I would have liked to know.”
“I thought you wouldn’t approve. I’m sorry.” She had braced herself for scolding, but not getting scolded made her feel strange.
“I don’t have the right to receive an apology from you. Neither you nor Seria wants this marriage. It wasn’t right for me to push this marriage on you both.” The Countess reflected on her actions, as she had caused much suffering. Yernia didn’t feel good seeing her face roughened by worries during the time they hadn’t seen each other. “Did Seria say where she’s going?”
“She said she was going to become independent. I gave her some money, so she should be okay. She’s my sister, after all.”
Seria was always a reliable sister to Yernia. They sometimes fought so much that they hated each other for a moment, but it was just one of the fleeting emotions common between sisters as if invisible threads connected them. The bond of family, which could never be cut, would never be severed. Yernia believed Seria would be safe. Her sister was strong so no matter where she went, she will live well.
“She said she’ll write once she’s settled———”
“Really? That…can’t be helped.”
“To Marquess Combelles.”
“Yes.”
The Count and the Countess were also aware of the rumors regarding Marquess Combelles. That’s why, at first, they were not welcoming toward him, but he truly behaved in a way that captivated their hearts to the point where they were confused about whether the rumors were false. He put his whole heart into winning them over, from beginning to end. It was impossible not to welcome him.
“He seemed sincere to Seria. He looked heartbroken.”
Upon hearing news of Seria’s escape, he came to visit almost every day. It seemed like he thought Count and Countess Cilliard were hiding Seria because of his rumors. Though he never thought she would run away, he eventually accepted the news as a sign to give up. After that, he didn’t show any signs of distress. It was a little disappointing because, at the end of the grapevine, she had learned how busy he was looking for Seria.
“We should leave them alone. Let them handle their affairs on their own.”
If it’s fate, they will marry without needing others to intervene. The Countess thought that way, and she regretted forcing Yernia into the marriage. Of course, in Yernia’s case, it was unavoidable due to her fate, but she did feel that her mother pushed her too much without giving her enough time. She should have taken better care of her.
“Yernia, let’s spend some time together, just the two of us.”
‘The Duke’s son is deceiving you. If you want to know the meaning of my words, go to the address below. Go and ask about your husband.’
In the middle of the night when everyone was asleep, Yernia held a candle and headed for the bathroom to take out the letter she had hidden all along and unfolded it. It had been three days since she received this letter. She had tried to forget about it all this time, but occasionally, those words would linger in her mind, and she couldn’t forget them completely. With a sigh, Yernia briefly opened another letter that she hadn’t read yet. It was from Miya.
‘Why did a house come out? I couldn’t follow him inside, but it looked really run-down. Why is he here, Miss?’
