Yernia couldn’t ignore the anonymous letter but she was afraid to go there without thought. Yernia wasn’t foolish enough to repeat the same mistake after going through everything so she wrote a letter to Miya, asking her to go there and find out about it. Of course, she didn’t ask her to find out about Cassian.

“I don’t believe this letter.”

She believed more in Cassian, who was in front of her, than an unidentified letter from who knew who. But malicious words about someone precious to her somehow couldn’t be completely ignored. It was an uneasy feeling as if she was missing something. Whether it was someone playing a prank or lying to separate them, she would feel more at ease by confirming it herself. Yernia finally picked up the pen after agonizing over it.

‘Miya, I have a favor to ask. I want to meet the person living in that house.’

If she couldn’t go herself, all she had to do was have someone come over to that side. After explaining the situation, Yernia carefully folded the letter. She hid the anonymous letter in her clothes again but didn’t bother hiding the letter she was sending to Miya. After all, Cassian wouldn’t check its contents. Just as she was about to leave the bathroom, the bathroom door suddenly opened.

“Hey, Yernia. I have a favor to ask you. Please don’t sneak out quietly.”

Yernia thought the person who was most affected by her kidnapping incident was Cassian. He behaved like a lost puppy whenever Yernia wasn’t by his side. It was similar to how puppies realized their mother wasn’t there while playing in the garden. He seemed sleepy, so he probably just came to talk in the bathroom.

“Should I wash you?” He teased. No way!

“You never miss a chance, do you?”

“Yeah, I love you too.”

“I love you too but our parents are here you know.”

“Shh… Just be quiet.”

Sitting on the edge of the bathtub, Yernia gently pushed away Cassian’s face when he leaned closer. Then she glanced at the letter she wrote to Miya.

“I didn’t come here because of something else. I came to write a letter.”

“Why didn’t you write it in the room?”

“You’re sleeping. How could I?”

The master bedroom was used only by Yernia and Cassian, while the other rooms were used by the Count and Countess. The living room was where the dogs slept. Yernia had come to the bathroom quietly, afraid of waking anyone up for no reason.

“I thought it was for me, but it wasn’t.”

Cassian thought that every action Yernia took was somehow related to him. No. Perhaps, he seemed to wish for that connection. It wasn’t that she disliked it.

“Now let’s go to sleep. I’m so sleepy.”

He sounded like he had said it without thinking. When Yernia spread her arms, he hugged her. Yernia was relieved that he stopped at this point. She was glad that the anonymous letter hidden in her clothes didn’t get exposed.

The man’s name was Ion. His father was a corrupt official who had fallen from grace before Ion was born, due to some action that defied fate. His life had been downhill ever since. Everyone pointed fingers and laughed at him, and his father, who couldn’t let go of his pride as a former official, quickly became corrupt. Once admired by all, he could now only cope with reality through alcohol and gambling. It was then that he seemed to start anew when he met Ion’s mother, but he couldn’t quit gambling. When Ion was four years old, his father ran up heavy debts from gambling, and that year, Ion’s mother ran away. His father despised Ion, who resembled his mother. However, he took responsibility for Ion until he became almost an adult, even though he wasn’t a proper father. When Ion turned 18, he couldn’t repay his increasing debts and ended his own life. His huge debt was passed on to his only child, Ion. For someone living in the back alley, it was a common story.

“Open the door!”

Bang! Bang! Bang! At the thundering pounding, Ion opened his eyes in a startle. He picked up the sword he had purchased recently for self-defense, but then he looked out the window. It was a rainy night, and the only people who would come looking for him would be the gangsters his father had borrowed money from.

“We know you’re inside! If you don’t open up, we’ll break in, and you won’t like it when we come out.”

“If you break the door, we’ll settle this with our fists! All night won’t be enough.”

Behind the laughing voice came low words. Ion wanted to run away, but he had nowhere to go from the beginning. He had lived this life since he was born. This shabby house was everything to him.

“Didn’t I pay the money already?”

“What? Do you want me to open the door myself? Oh, it looks like you didn’t want to get hit!”

A slightly open door revealed the face of a rough man. Seeing Ion’s exhausted face, the men behind him, as expected, were gangsters. They tormented Ion, even though it wasn’t him who borrowed the money. So, Ion collected money by any means necessary to repay the debt. The most recent thing he did was somewhat illegal, but it allowed him to get a large sum of money and Ion gave all that money to the gangsters.

“Hey, you. Where did you get all that money from? Did you steal it? Or is there some hidden secret in your background? If you have any money hidden, bring it out now. If you don’t want to get beaten to a pulp.”
