I Didn’t Want To Be the Prince’s Fiancée, so I Followed the Heavenly Voice - Chapter 1.2
As the Heavenly Voice spoke, her palm started to get warm. Then, a sphere of light was created, which wrapped around the place where she wanted to heal.
(Healing Magic is meant to help increase a person’s ability to heal. That’s why people with better physical strength heal faster.)
The Heavenly Voice said, but since Edgar was wrapped in bandages, Mylene couldn’t tell if his wound was getting better. Well, whatever.
For the time being, she placed her palm on his face, then his chest, and finally his legs.
As the last ball of light disappeared, Edgar began to squirm. The Deputy Captain removed the bandage from his face.
“Are you awake, Captain?”
(Well done, Mylene. The captain will be fine now.)
When the bandages were removed, Edgar had recovered so well to the point that he didn’t know what he had been bandaged up for.
Isn’t that amazing for a first timer? Mylene praised herself deep down.
(Well done, Mylene. You’re a knight, but you can still use Healing Magic. That’s something to be confident about.)
Mylene nodded to the Heavenly Voice.
“This is…”
Apparently, Captain Edgar had taken notice. He raised himself, putting a hand on his forehead.
“You’ve been hit hard, Edgar.”
“This voice, Martin? What? Is the Fifth Division here?”
“What do you mean ‘what’? Who do you think cast the healing spell?”
“You’re not a mage, are you?”
“What are you saying? She’s my little sister.”
“Your sister? Oh, the rumored daughter of the commander.”
The rumored daughter of the Commander. She was said to have quit the Magic Department and entered the Knight Department because she resembled the Commander.
“My sweet little sister is now an apprentice knight, following in the footsteps of her respected older brother, me.”
She’s a knight’s apprentice and uses Healing Magic? Edgar thought. But it didn’t change the fact that he owed her a life.
“Mylene,” Edgar called her name.
“Hey, don’t call her that,” Martin interrupted.
“Miss Mylene…”
The next time Edgar called her name, he added the honorific title. Mylene replied, “Yes.”
“I’d like to express my gratitude again. Thank you.”
“No, you’re welcome. I was just doing what a knight should do. It was my first time, so I wasn’t confident about it.”
There, for the first time, Mylene saw Edgar’s face, Captain of the Third Division.
(He’s your type, right?)
Fufufu, the Heavenly Voice commented mischievously. Exactly. Her ideal face was right before her eyes.
Long and beautiful black hair. Black and long almond eyes. A slightly unsociable face. To put it better, he was cool. All in all, this was what a knight captain should be like.
Edgar also sized up his savior, Mylene.
Martin said she was his sister, right? He pondered while staring at her.
Their gazes intertwined.
“Hey, don’t make it a world of two.”
Then Martin inserted.
“No, is she really your sister?”
“Excuse me?”
“You’re not even close in semblance.”
In fact, the Duke and Duchess of Sirac were a couple known as the Beast and the Beauty. The duke, a knight commander, was a big, burly man with a shaggy beard that added to his stature. If compared to an animal, he was a bear if he was cute and a gorilla if he was tough. That was Duke Sirac. The Duchess was a white mage, and she looked dainty and ephemeral. In terms of animals, she was like a cat? A rabbit?
And Martin was just a muscular gorilla who resembled his father, and unfortunately, he wasn’t a handsome muscular gorilla. Just a gorilla. Mylene was a small animal like her mother.
Which brought back Edgar’s earlier point. It seemed that people would somehow imagine Mylene, who had gone on to knighthood, to be a gorilla like her father. Rumors had also spread that because of her gorilla appearance, she deliberately chose to study knighthood, and was therefore excluded from the list of fiancée candidates.
It was a digression. In addition, her mother, who was such an excellent white mage, was also said to have been a candidate for the fiancée of the royal family, namely the current king. It was not known what went wrong in the middle, but she ended up with the Duke of Sirac. Mylene’s father said that her mother fell in love with him more.
As a matter of fact, Mylene suspected that the reason the engagement between her mother and the king did not take place was because of her family background. Her mother was the daughter of a Viscount, while the current queen was the daughter of Duke.
It was a long deviation.
“Brother, let’s go heal the next person.”
Mylene was motivated when she found out that she could use Healing Magic.
“Right. Deputy Captain, show us to the next tent.”
“No, I’ll accompany you.”
“The wounded should sleep.”
Martin wasn’t amused to have his beloved sister and the other captain together.
“Thanks to you, my injuries are healed. Besides, The wounded you will be treating are my troops. I’ll show you around.”
Edgar got out of bed and removed his bandages. Mylene offered her help and went on with it. She was curious. She was curious about her own magic powers. And frankly speaking, she was also interested in Edgar himself.
“Brother, aren’t I amazing?”
In fact, she knew that Edgar recovered from the injuries all over his body now that he could move, but with the bandages off, his recovery was more visible.
Martin patted Mylene’s head in delight. “That’s Mylene.”
“So let’s get on with it.”
Edgar led Mylene to another tent. Mylene, daughter of the commander and sister to Martin.
In the midst of the distant and painful sensation of consciousness, Edgar opened his eyes, guided by a blinding light in front of him. Earlier, when he overheard that she was Martin’s sister, he wondered what she would look like, but there she was, waiting for him with a compassionate smile.
She must have been the one who gave him hope amidst his dying feelings. She’s like a saint, he thought. He was puzzled by the emotions that came to him for the first time, but he wondered if he could somehow make this saint his own.

When the Third and Fifth Divisions returned from their postings in the border, they were given a few days of respite. They successfully subdued the demons that had been threatening the borders and returned to take a short rest.
As luck would have it, their vacation coincided with the National Foundation Holiday. As the name implied, the holiday celebrated the day the country was founded. The knights also had to take turns in their duties, but the Third and Fifth Divisions, who returned from the border, were exempted from this duty.
Mylene received a letter. The sender was Edgar of the Third Division. He said he would like to thank her for the other day and to celebrate the National Foundation Day with her.
(You did it, Mylene. You’re going on a date with the captain of your dreams.)
The Heavenly Voice was chill. She read the letter over and over again, wondering if it was a dream or if it wasn’t a dream. Each time, the Heavenly Voice told her that she was not dreaming.
“Mylene, I surprisingly got a day off for the National Day this year. Why don’t you and I go out together?”
Martin asked his beloved sister out, but she gently declined the invitation.
“Brother, I was invited by a friend this year. May I go out with my friend?”
“What, you have a friend too, Mylene? That’s good to know. Then, I’ll go out with my friends as well.”
Better yet, go out with a woman or two. Mylene murmured softly deep inside. Besides, the friends his brother was referring to must be knights of the Fifth Division.
“Um, Brother, how are the knights of the Third Division doing?”
Mylene was curious about her first healing magic performance.
“Oh, they’re all in good spirits. It was as if their previous conditions were but a lie. Thanks to you, the reputation of our Fifth Division has risen a lot.”
With a gulp, Mylene clenched her right hand into a fist.
“I’m glad I could be of service to the Fifth Division.”
Mylene smiled elegantly.
“Moreover, I asked the Third and Fifth Division Knights to keep your powers secret. Once you’re found out, you might get transferred to the Magic Department. I don’t want to do anything that might undermine your desire to become a knight.”
“Thank you very much, Brother.”
“If anyone tries to reveal your power, they’ll be sentenced to a thousand spankings.”
That was a sentence she would have absolutely vetoed. But if someone were to get beaten, she believed they deserved it. She could only feel sorry for them.

The day of the National Holiday. Mylene asked a squire to take her to the entrance of the festival venue. She refused the squires offer to pick her up later, saying that she would go home with her friends. Edgar had written in his letter that he would like to send her home. Her parents were away on business. The problem was her brother, but she naively thought that if Edgar left before her brother got home, there would be no problem.
She said she would meet Edgar in front of the fountain.
He was not wearing his usual knight’s uniform, but Mylene recognized him even from a distance. As expected, it seems that one’s preferred appearance could be recognized even from afar.
She quietly called out to him from behind to surprise him.
“Sorry to have kept you waiting, Captain Edgar.”
She expected him to be surprised, but as expected of a knight captain. he seemed to have sensed her presence.
“I’m sorry you had to come all this way today.”
“It doesn’t matter. I was also very excited when Captain invited me to the festival.”
“Cough,” Edgard put a hand over his mouth, “I wonder if you can stop calling me the Captain.”
Mylene tilted her head.
“I want you to call me Edgar.”
“Okay, Captain Edgar.”
“I mean without the captain.”
“All right, Edgar-san.”
Edgar compromised on the “san”.
“I thought of a gift to thank you for what you did for me. I just don’t know what to get you.”
“You don’t have to thank me because I was just doing what a knight was supposed to do.”
“It may be natural to you, but you’re my benefactor.”
“You’re exaggerating.”
Mylene smiled there.
“I see.”
Edgar gave up on his thank you speech.
“Shall we?”
He naturally held out his right hand, and Mylene stretched her left. He took her hand.
“There are so many people and it’ll be hard if we get separated,” Edgar said.
“You’re just like Brother,” Mylene laughed. “He doesn’t want me to get lost.”
Edgar had mixed feelings about this.
Then the two of them, hand in hand, decided to take a look around the festival stalls.
Mylene spoke.
“My father, mother and brother are all busy with work this time of year, so I’ve never been able to enjoy a festival like this.”
Edgar was glad that he had invited her.
There was a stall selling hair ornaments. Mylene stopped there.
“Do you want hair ornaments?” Edgar asked.
“No. I wanted a string to tie my hair during training,” Mylene answered.
“Then allow me to give it to you.”
(Mylene, don’t refuse.)
The Heavenly Voice had been quiet till now.
“Thank you,” the words came naturally from Mylene’s mouth.
Edgar and she chose a braided tie to bind her hair. Since it was for training, something simple would be appropriate. They chose an unadorned braid that was 80% red and 20% black.
Mylene chose another one. She chose the opposite color design from the previous one, 20% red and 80% black.
“This is for you, Edgar-san. You can use it if you like. It’s a thank you for today.”

And over another section were three disheveled men. Looking closely, they were members of the Fifth Division. The captain, deputy captain, and member A.
“Captain, why didn’t you bring Miss Mylene?”
The deputy captain blurted out.
