I Will Return My New Brother - Chapter 221
My head turned to the table where the conversation was going on.
Bertin lightly tapped on my hand.
I looked down only after I saw him faintly shake his head.
There’s a high possibility she hid her presence on purpose.
Having me evacuated in advance would have meant she was pretending to be with them.
Come to think of it, in order for them to use Mom, there should be a situation where my safety was in danger.
Perhaps, there might be someone placed near me to watch me.
As we moved to the Duchy, most of the people working in the mansion were fired.
And, since it was decided to move the academy, strangely, I often ran across Young Duke Bolton.
If all of that was to have me under their surveillance . . .
Maybe Mom was trying to escape from the threat of the Duke of Bolton by uniting with Duke Miller.
Pushing aside my deepening thoughts, I listened carefully to the conversation at the next table once again.
As though people didn’t know much about the missing people, their conversation was flowing to another direction.
“By the way, have you heard about the mage the Crown Prince raised in secret?”
At the subtle voices, my nerves were on edge as if I had poured all my senses into my ears.
“It is said that he has already reached the level of archmage while still in his late teens.”
“I heard the Crown Prince really trusts him.”
Quite a lot of people were talking about Zen.
How powerful he looked and how easily he took care of the monsters.
And how much faith the Crown Prince showed in him.
It seemed like his performance was outstanding.
“I don’t know if he’s okay.”
I worried about him.
Even Zen would get exhausted if he used strong magic continuously.
“He’ll be okay. We’ll definitely get a call if there’s any problem.”
Bertin spoke softly as if reassuring me.
Zen had already attracted a lot of people’s attention.
Someone snorted, saying it was nothing more than exaggerated rumors, someone praised him, and someone else busily asked a lot of things as though they were curious about Zen.
“I feel weird.”
Ever since I became Marianne Miller, I was the one who was always surrounded by people, and the one who secretly came to me in the middle of the night or avoided people’s eyes was Zen.
Pushing down the hood, I looked down at the empty glass.
Whatever it was had flowed down my throat while I couldn’t even feel its taste.
While ordering a second drink, someone’s words stuck to my ears.
“I heard the fiancee of that mage is Young Lady Frey.”
“That young lady of a fallen family?”
“. . .”
I almost did a spit take, so I was glad I didn’t have anything in my mouth.
Bertin, who sat across from me, was rolling his eyes with blank expression as though he could barely hold himself back.
Even him, who always kept a smile on his face, looked like he was struggling to keep his composure this time.
Well, my expression wouldn’t be much different.
Their whispering grew a bit louder.
“I heard he entered the mansion alone to save Miss Frey who fainted in the lounge.”
“I heard that too. The rescue process was amazing.”
An employee, who walked past them just in time, joined the conversation with a blushing face.
“It’s so romantic. I heard he didn’t touch her at all in order to protect the reputation of his loved one. He used magic to float it in the air and moved her himself.”
I tried to picture Abigail, who was pretending to faint, floating in the air, moving above the monsters’ body to where people were.
Where is this romantic?
No matter how I looked at it, it seemed like Zen lifted her using magic because he didn’t want to move her himself.
Bertin also let out a vain laugh and shook his head.
It was the moment when he brought the rest of the coffee to his mouth.
“But you know what? I heard Young Lady Rocke, the famous nouveau riche, got in between their relationship.”
The coffee that entered his mouth was instantly spat out.
I quickly took out my handkerchief and wiped at the table.
Fortunately, people didn’t look at us because they all were focused in the conversation.
“From what I heard, she showered curses on the mage that came after evacuating Young Lady Frey. There’s speculation that the two of them were in that kind of relationship . . .”
“I heard that people around them were trembling because of how passionately she cursed at him.”
At the tsking sound, Bertin raised his wandering eyes upward.
Did you curse Zen in front of the Crown Prince, Raynia?
“According to people who witnessed it firsthand, it was almost a love-hate level. If hatred and affection weren’t mixed, would there be such strong and intense actions?”
Excuse me, it was purely cursing.
You people don’t need to try to interpret it.
She must have been outraged upon seeing Zen’s nonsense, and sincere curses escaped without her knowledge.
“I heard Young Lady Rocke was practically his wife.”
“Then is Young Lady Frey his new love?”
That was impossible.
Abigail wanted to live as long as possible.
