I’ll Become the Female Lead in this Trashy Webnovel - Chapter 89.1
I Like You (1)
Yeah, it was refreshing to do this from the start. Sohee regretted not having grabbed and pulled the woman’s hair earlier. Each time she shook her hair, the nausea inside gradually settled. Of course, the fact that her own hair was being pulled and torn was a bit sad. Tears welled up from the pain. Nevertheless, Sohee had no intention of letting go first. It felt like she could go on like this all night with the stubbornness that had been in her heart. Their bodies rolled over and over, taking turns being on top and bottom. They had been wrestling aimlessly on the ground for a while when there was a loud noise.
*BANG*
A sound louder than their noisy fight echoed from the direction of a table. Startled, the two looked in that direction, but they still held onto each other’s hair. A soft but firm voice rang out.
“Stop.” Joshua was looking down at them with a stern expression. Although Sohee had expected Joshua’s involvement in this matter from the beginning, his appearance in such a situation was unexpected, and she blinked in surprise. It wasn’t just Sohee who felt the shock. Kelly also loosened her grip on Sohee’s hair. Before they knew it, both had let go of each other’s hair and sat up on the marble floor.
“Ariadne and I have something to discuss privately. Everyone else, please leave.”
There were maids behind the man following him. However, he looked at Kelly, who was sitting down, and spoke. Meeting his clear gaze, Kelly slowly stood up. Without caring about her messy hair, which resembled a lion’s mane, she quickly left the room. The door closed, and silence returned.
A chilly atmosphere flowed in the space where only the two of them remained. This was the first time they had met since he disdainfully looked at her two days ago when she appeared in front of the palace. Now, Joshua’s eyes were no different than they were back then.
“Why did you have to come all this way and cause such a scene?”
The sentence, laden with irritation, felt like a dagger to her heart. His subsequent sharp words had the same effect.
“Can’t you just stay put in the annex?”
Sohee lowered her head. For some reason, she always felt like a fool in front of this man. Everything might have seemed smooth and under control, but whenever she met his fiery gaze, it felt like hitting a wall. That’s why she had often halted her usual actions.
His gaze from above remained piercing, and tears unexpectedly welled up in her eyes. The emotions, already intensified from the fight with Kelly, and compounded by Joshua’s sharp words, felt even more heart-wrenching.
Feeling a warmth at the tip of her nose, she couldn’t hold back her tears any longer. Pondering whether her emotions had turned childish just because of their physical altercation, Sohee wiped away her tears with her sleeve.
As she continued sobbing, a faint voice from above asked,
“…Are you crying?”
“…Why are you always on her side?”
“I’m not taking sides…”
For a moment, Joshua seemed at a loss for words. For a while, only the sound of Sohee’s sobs filled the silence.
After a bit, he bent down. With a gentle grip, his large hand lifted Sohee by her waist and set her down on the table. Her face, smeared with tears and mucus, was now in full view. Joshua hesitated for a moment, his lips quivering.
Seeing his expression made Sohee feel even more pained, causing her voice to waver.
“We fought yesterday, and if we fight again today, my heart will hurt too much… That’s why I came here…”
Her words were fragmented and incoherent due to her crying. Her broken phrases felt almost like trying to decode a puzzle.
“… I just… I just wanted to help…”
“Ariadne, I can’t decipher what you’re saying through your tears. Please, speak clearly and slowly.”
“I’m already hurt, and you seem to side with her…”
Finally grasping her muffled words, Joshua quickly retorted,
“I told you I’m not taking sides. I just… my words came out colder than I intended.”
After pondering what more to add, he let out a soft sigh.
Sohee had frequently heard that sigh lately. Every time, it made her feel utterly worthless, leading her to cry uncontrollably.
In front of her, his large hand hovered uncertainly. Seeing her cry so heartbreakingly made his heart feel heavy. Unsure how to comfort her, he eventually reached for her tear and mucus-covered face.
With his fingertips, he gently wiped the tears from her eyes, and with the back of his hand, he brushed away the mucus from her nose. Despite his efforts, the tears kept flowing, but he continued to wipe them away gently.
