Little Terrified Bun - Chapter 62
“Surprised?” Wei He let out a cold humph. His gaze was strange, with a bit of hatred and a bit of amazement. “I underestimated you; helping the Ye family to take over my project worth thirty million, how bold and resolute.”
Thirty million was neither a small amount nor a large one.
It fell right on the boundaries of Wei He’s limit, which was still tolerable. It was just that if this was found out by the public, the Wei family’s reputation would be questioned.
Even being confronted like this, Wei Zhe remained composed. He lifted his feet and walked toward the other man. It was as if every step he took stamped upon one’s heart, making the heart thud. The two of them met each other’s eyes; one sat behind the desk and the other stood on the other side with his hands on the desk.
A middle-aged man and an underaged teenager.
Gravitas was a mysterious thing. Wei He strangely felt that he had become one head short of Wei Zhe at the moment. His entire body was suppressed. Even his breathing sounded slightly rushed.
“Compared to the gift that father gave me, this trivial thing is not worth mentioning.” Wei Zhe initiated the conversation with ease.
“A little bastard? Is it worth thirty million?” Wei He’s eyes were full of hatred upon mentioning Wei Jing.
“Back then, you brought Wei Jing home yourself, and now you don’t want to accept him. Too late.” Wei Zhe shrugged. “How about we talk about it more openly. I will take care of Wei Jing outside of the Wei residence so that he won’t irritate your eyes anymore. And in return, you will stop causing him trouble and stop with all your tricks.”
“Why should I agree to this?” Wei He questioned. “There are many other easier ways, aren’t there?”
Wei Jing was Wei He’s lifetime shame. Due to himself being an illegitimate child, he treated all his mistresses and their children equally. Wei Jing’s mother was from the Jiangnan region (a region south of the Yangtze River) and she possessed the kind of gentleness that was unique to natives of Jiangnan. Back then, even Wei He, who already saw many different sorts of beauty, was deeply astonished by her beauty.
This woman – pretty, gentle, and generous – her furrowed eyebrows always showing a faint sorrow, possibly due to the hardships she went through since she was young, made one wish to smooth her brow.
Wei He liked her, as well as the Wei Jing who grew to be very much like her, otherwise why would a profit-seeking man like him bring the useless and unfavorable Wei Jing to the Wei’s residence.
But the more he liked her the more he hated her when he found out that the woman dared to have sex with another man in their apartment right before their wedding day.
Wei He’s brain went blank for a moment, then a surge of anger chased it. He was fooled by another person and he even almost married a woman who cheated on him. What a disgrace.
But not waiting for Wei He to get back at them, both died in a car accident while trying to run away.
Maybe he did feel sadness, but he felt more…elated and slightly regretful.
The person who had brought him shame died, so he felt happy.
But he couldn’t torture her personally, so he felt lamentful.
If Wei Jing had always acted as a non-existent person who simply wandered in the Wei family – unimportant, inferior, and pitiful – Wei He would be willing to raise him by simply treating him as a joke. But Wei Jing changed. The affection in his eyes disappeared and he dared to resist him as he grew.
And his own son, who he regarded as highly important, made a scene in front of him for Wei Jing, to protect that child.
…How can this be!!!
“I believe in father’s ability, but father doesn’t seem to trust mine! How troubling.” Wei Zhe shook his head. Before Wei He’s provocative eyes, Wei Zhe uttered coolly, “The government has already decided to construct a highway on the deserted land on City A’s Xiyan Road.”
“What?” Wei He froze, then furrowed his brows upon finally reacting to the words. “How do you know? Where exactly did your information come from?” He said in a deeper voice.
“I have my ways.” Wei Zhe’s eyes appeared calm and composed. “Just like how I can help the Ye family take over the project worth thirty million from the Wei family.”
The sun shone brightly outside the window. Despite the air conditioning inside the room, Wei He loosened his necktie feeling dry and hot from the weather. After a while, he looked towards his most outstanding son as if at an equal for the first time. “Spill it! What do you want?”
“It’s very easy: I will move out with Wei Jing and no matter what happens to us in the future, you will not interfere with our business. In return, I will share with you some of the resources I have on hand,” Wei Zhe said.
Wei He inhaled a deep breath. “All right, I agree. But if the information turns out to be fake…”
“It won’t happen,” Wei Zhe replied with firmness, then let out a casual laugh. “Even if it’s fake, can’t the Wei family afford this small loss?”
“Fine, I will try it.”
“After this is done, I want 20% of the profit,” Wei Zhe continued.
The man furrowed his eyebrows. “Don’t overdo it. Take a look at who you’re negotiating with before trying to exploit the other person. You simply said it with your mouth and I have to do all the dirty work, yet you want 20% straight up, with the additional condition of not bothering you guys?”
The expression on Wei He’s face could be expressed using internet slang – If you’re so good, why don’t you do it yourself?
“15%, no less.” Wei Zhe returned the man’s words back to him. “ I provided you with the information. You should at least give me a tip for my hard work! Take a look at who you’re negotiating with before trying to exploit the other person.”
Wei Zhe became speechless and his expression turned quite distorted. “10%, no more.”
“Deal,” Wei Zhe replied without any hesitation.
