Married To A Savage Duke - Chapter 75.2
“Do as you please, but don’t overdo it.”
Surprisingly, he nodded readily. Once he gave permission, Cherryl immediately went to the nearby stall and bought two cups of hot mulled wine. They drank a sip of the wine that had been simmered with apples, oranges, and cinnamon, and their whole bodies relaxed. At this moment, if asked to choose their favorite drink for a lifetime, they could confidently choose this without hesitation.
“Even if I had to drink only this for the rest of my life, I think it would be possible. Isn’t it delicious?”
Cherryl pleaded with her sparkling eyes, seeking Cade’s agreement. Although it was a drink far from his preference, Cade played along.
“It’s drinkable. It has quite a good flavor.”
“Right? I want to buy a whole bottle… but I have to hold back.”
Receiving a subtle glance, she quickly changed the subject. The two of them strolled while sipping on the steaming hot wine. They saw a performance artist covered in golden paint from head to toe and watched a street circus. In the meantime, Cherryl’s cup quickly reached the bottom.
“Have you already finished it all?”
“Oh my. It was so delicious that I didn’t realize I drank it all.” Cherryl looked at Cade’s remaining half-filled cup. Cade, who saw a yearning in her sparkling eyes, graciously gave her his share. “Ah. I find it hard to believe since I’ve never seen it before. Would you ever let me see you drunk?”
Cade let out a hollow laugh. Did she fearlessly know what she was saying?
“Do you want to see me drunk?”
“I want to see it once. I’m curious.”
“You won’t see it in your lifetime.”
“Why?”
“Because there won’t be any occasion for me to get drunk in front of you.” He cut it off sharply. Despite Cherryl’s wide-eyed response to his somewhat abrupt words, he didn’t add anything else. Cade wasn’t particularly prone to getting drunk in the first place, but since he started taking medication that subdued his sex drive, he never experienced even a moment of mental fogginess. Therefore, to show his completely drunk self to Cherryl, he would have to stop taking the medication and drink heavily, which was no different from putting himself in a state of losing control and running wild in front of her. Such a thing absolutely couldn’t happen. There was no way that tiny body could handle him running wild like a rabid dog. Even before entering the temple, he took the usual dosage of medication several times and restrained himself to the extreme, but even that didn’t bother Cherryl at all.
“Lady! Would you like to try dessert?” At that moment, a merchant wearing an apron stood in front of Cherryl, holding a tray. Cherryl had shifted her gaze downward in annoyance as if disregarding Cade. On the tray were several paper cups, each filled with something red that seemed as delicious as candy. Cherryl observed it with curious eyes and asked the merchant. “What is this?”
“It’s handmade candy made from peaches and plums. It’s sweet and sour. Very delicious. We’re giving away one cup each to commemorate the festival at our confectionery shop.” Didn’t Cade dislike sweets? Sarah accepted the paper cup offered by the merchant.
“Thank you. I’ll give it a try.”
“If you like it, you should visit the bakery at 37th Street. It’s run by the famous pastry chef Margaret, who was popular in the capital.” The merchant kindly smiled and continued to hand out cups to passing tourists.
“Look at the colors. Don’t they look delicious?” Cherryl picked up a fruit candy and offered it to Cade. Although he seemed a little hesitant, Cade didn’t refuse her kindness. Cherryl also put candy in her mouth. It had a jelly-like texture, and despite the merchant’s exaggeration, it was truly tangy and delicious. They enjoyed their dessert together while listening to a troubadour’s performance. The gentle melodies, the love songs flowing along with them, and the sound of people humming along were all very pleasant to hear.
“It’s fascinating that Hindel, the famous pastry chef, has opened a shop in Carlsvik. I feel like I’ve heard that name a few times.” She spoke with slightly unclear pronunciation as she rolled the candy in her mouth. Cade gently brushed off the sugar powder that had stuck to the corner of her lips.
“When he sent his business permit application to me, he attached an impressive postscript.”
“What was it?”
“It was a postscript saying that if I grant the opening, he will share the recipe for his self-made desserts.”
“Oh… Isn’t that a bribe?”
“I accepted it as a bribe that I liked,” Cade replied nonchalantly as if it was nothing special. But wasn’t the recipe a closely guarded trade secret in a shop that sold food? Even the sausage vendor at the stall went berserk, warning them not to reveal the ingredients when Cole guessed them right. If the owner of a famous bakery voluntarily shared the recipe, it seemed that the opening in Carlsvik was desperately desired.
“It seems like he wanted to do business in the North so much that he was willing to share trade secrets. He’s a savvy pastry chef.”
“Why do you think that?”
“I thought maybe he made that offer knowing that I have a sweet tooth,” Cherryl mumbled and once again offered the fruit candy. Disliking sweet things, Cade frowned as he looked at the sinful object, then cast a complex and subtle gaze at Cherryl.
