Married To A Savage Duke - Chapter 79.1
“Hello.” Cherryl glanced at Viper and Roy and exchanged a brief nod. Roy responded with a smile, but Viper remained motionless, as intimidating as ever. Viper wasn’t even blinking as if he was a statue. Cherryl inwardly clicked her tongue and looked away from him. Cade approached her a bit awkwardly, with a teasing smile on his face.
“You’re awake.”
“How long did you sleep?”
“About an hour.”
“Not much time has passed.” Muttering to herself, Cherryl lightly shrugged her shoulders. Not much time had passed. Cade was concerned about her, who had been knocked out for too long at an inopportune time after she had woken up. Instead of pointing it out, he reached out and brushed her fatigued face with his hand.
“Are you going back to the castle now?”
He couldn’t say it to Cherryl, who looked tired, but Cade wanted to go back to their bedroom and fulfill the desire he hadn’t yet satisfied. Love shared in cramped spaces had its charm, but a bedroom where they could indulge for a few nights was even better. Unaware of his impatience, Cherryl pursed her lips thoughtfully. “Not yet. There’s somewhere I want to stop by before we go.”
“Understood.”
Nevertheless, Cade readily nodded his head and naturally took her hand as if he would accompany her. Cherryl wanted to avoid taking him along to buy a surprise gift.
“I want to go alone. There’s something personal I want to buy.” A faint light of disappointment flickered on Cade’s face. Before he could say anything, Cherryl made a preemptive strike. “I’ll be back soon. There will be many people around, so it won’t be dangerous.”
“It might be more dangerous because there are a lot of people. I can’t let you go alone without any protection.”
“It’s not a shop in a secluded alley. It’s in the middle of the town.”
“Allow me to accompany you at least to the front of the shop.”
“No. I mean, you won’t even know what I’m going to buy…”
“Then I’ll stay three steps behind and follow you.”
“What’s the difference?” Roy, who had been listening to their back-and-forth, suddenly intervened. “If you’re too restrictive from the first week of your marriage, your wife won’t like it. Women are naturally… free.”
Cade slowly turned his head and gave him a cold gaze. Roy smirked and raised both palms. “I’m not saying to send your wife alone.” Perhaps considering his subordinate’s words to be reasonable, Cade showed a hint of conflict. “Do you think I’m restricting you?”
Inadvertently helped by Cherryl, she glanced briefly at Roy. “Rather than restricting, it seems like you’re being a little overprotective.”
“Do you not think I’m looking out for your well-being?”
“I do think so. But you’re not considering my wishes. It feels like you’re being overly protective.” Cherryl said in a half-joking manner, wanting to somehow separate herself from him. Would she develop a sense of resentment if things continued like this? Cade looked down at Cherryl with an uneasy gaze. He had the eyes of someone who would coldly reprimand a subordinate and then had the nerve to watch her as if he was a large dog being left with its leash still tied. Suppressing the laughter bursting out from her extreme mood swings, Cherryl approached Cade a step closer. Then she placed her hand on his chest and whispered so that his subordinates couldn’t hear. “Don’t worry. I won’t come to dislike you.”
The three men listened intently to her whispering and remained silent for a moment. Suddenly, Cherryl felt a rapid movement from her hand that touched Cade’s body. It was astonishing how his heart could beat so fiercely without any change in his facial expression. As Cherryl clicked her tongue, Cade took her hand and removed it from his chest.
“Can you finish your task in 10 minutes? Something urgent has come up, and we need to return to the castle as soon as possible.”
“Oh… all of a sudden?”
“It’s an urgent matter that requires an immediate return.”
“10 minutes is too tight. How about 20 minutes?”
Cade stared at her silently for a moment and then lightly nodded his head. “I can wait that long, but you need to hurry.”
“I’ll try my best.”
“And even if I can’t go with you in front of the shop, I’ll just wait for you nearby.”
“Okay. That should be fine.”
They compromised and agreed to go together to the vicinity of the bustling street where the shop was located. Cherryl walked shoulder-to-shoulder with Cade, with his subordinates trailing behind, toward the festival street. There were still many tourists wandering around on the street. Although it was a dim evening, the aerial lights pouring down like giant snowflakes made the atmosphere vibrant. The cozy and sparkling ambiance unique to winter was lingering in the air, and she thought it was a good idea to come back when it was dark.
“From here, I’ll go alone.” Two blocks further and around the corner, Cherryl’s destination awaited. Sending a gaze that meant not to follow her, Cade reluctantly nodded as if he had no choice.
“If you don’t return within 20 minutes, I’ll start tracking you.”
