Married To A Savage Duke - Chapter 82.2
“As if it’s a simple joke. Not only did you play tricks on a woman, but you also threatened her, saying she’d be punished for a major crime if she didn’t kneel. You call that a joke?” Even though Phillip was close to losing both of his wrists, Cade showed no sign of relenting and growled. Phillip chewed on his lips and looked up at him with a resentful expression, trying to defend himself. “I didn’t have any intention to mock or threaten anyone. I didn’t even know that in the North, they have a punishment for cutting off wrists for making jokes. If it were an official rule, there wouldn’t be any cases of such trivial matters being punished.”
Facing the fierce glittering gaze, Phillip fell silent. Just as Rosaline and his eyes met, he quickly put her in front of him.
“I didn’t even know who your wife was. I was just passing by, and my sister, the princess, asked me to deliver a letter as a greeting. Isn’t that right, Rosaline?”
Trembling like a cedar tree, Rosaline sensed the arrow aimed at her and held her breath. After exhaling a long sigh, the princess nodded her head.
“Brother’s words are true. As soon as we arrived at the festival in Oslo, I found Lady Milos. I also told my brother who was with me at the time.”
“You heard that, right? If she hadn’t been my sister’s friend, I would have passed by without knowing. I wasn’t trying to deceive your wife.”
Cade’s expression remained indifferent, but the bulging veins in his neck indicated that he was holding back his anger. Rosaline locked eyes with Cherryl and continued to apologize.
“I’m sorry for causing a disturbance. I didn’t expect things to escalate like this.”
“No, you should apologize to the princess.”
As Cherryl was about to bow her head, her body suddenly turned around. It was Cade who had reached out again, hiding her behind him. As a result, his sight was blocked, and he couldn’t move at all, entangled in Cade’s arms.
Cade’s eyes toward Rosaline were as cold as a freezing lake.
“I regret welcoming you into my castle.”
“….”
She didn’t get a warm welcome. Even amidst her confusion, Cherryl thought so. Nevertheless, Rosaline lowered her gaze as if she had nothing to say.
“I apologize to Lady Milor.”
“Don’t refer to my wife as Lady Milos just because you find her as my Duchess irritating.”
“I apologize. I will be more cautious from now on.”
Philip, who had been observing the situation, quietly moved among the knights.
“I’ll be heading back now. I didn’t come to the festival for this, and I’ve wasted enough time.”
“Where are you going?”
As Caded asked, Philip left without answering. An undeniable voice grabbed Phillip’s attention. Sensing an unusual tension in the air, the knights placed their hands on the hilts of their swords, and almost simultaneously, Cade’s subordinates also drew their weapons, assuming a defensive stance. Amidst the palpable tension, Philip, with a contorted expression, exploded in anger, shattering the precarious atmosphere.
“Have you not caused me trouble? It was a misunderstanding, but it wasn’t something I could overlook without punishment. Even though I said I’d turn a blind eye, would you refuse? Are you trying to escalate things?”
“Why are you so jittery?” Cade smirked, curling the corners of his lips. “After such a long time, I thought we’d have a chat.”
Philip scoffed at the unexpected proposal. However, as they were not on friendly terms enough to sit down and have a conversation, he remained suspicious.
“Chat? Are you serious?”
“The person who frantically sent me a letter saying they wanted to meet seems to be saying strange things.” Cade mocked the dubious crown prince. Even though Philip stared at him fiercely, Cade remained unimpressed and continued speaking. “If you wanted to meet me so badly, you should have let me know when you came to Carlsvik. I would have treated you generously.”
That statement would have been readily accepted if someone who didn’t know the situation had heard it. Philip glared at Cade with blazing eyes.
“Yes, I sent you numerous invitations, but you refused every one of them!”
“Don’t whine. Didn’t I invite you to my wedding?”
“Ugh.”
“After all those invitations I sent, what was the reason you didn’t attend? What were you doing in Carlsvik?” His deep and clear voice, without hesitation, captured the attention of onlookers who had gathered due to the commotion. Even Cherryl, who didn’t understand the situation, could tell that Philip’s actions were suspicious. Aware of his surroundings, Philip cleared his throat and pulled his robe tighter. Eager to get away from the crowd, he reluctantly accepted Cade’s proposal.
“There are too many prying eyes here. It’s better to have a calm conversation in private.”
“Since I have one of my businesses nearby, let’s go there.”
Cade seemed uninterested in treating the noble Philip at the Grand Duchy. Philip couldn’t voice his dissatisfaction at this moment and ended up following him, almost against his will.
“I’ll go by carriage first.” Philip narrowed his eyes, looking through Cade’s back to catch a glimpse of Cherryl, and then swiftly turned around and headed back to his carriage. Rosaline, who had been watching Cade with uneasy eyes, followed Philip soon after. As Cade observed the siblings’ departing figures, he immediately turned to Cherryl, grabbing her shoulders to meet her gaze.
