Married To A Savage Duke - Chapter 82.1
Phillip realized that it wasn’t a joke and burst out laughing. Rosaline seemed surprised and unable to move, while Cherryl quickly jumped and grabbed Axel, who was standing nearby, in a hurry.
“Stop Cade, please!” Cherryl pleaded. Axel furrowed his eyebrows, seemingly hesitant to act. “If it’s too hard for you to watch, should I call a carriage first?”
Cherryl was in disbelief. Even Viper, Roy, and Cole standing beside them all had stunned expressions. Could Cade just let the prince’s wrist be cut off like that? Cherryl followed Cade, gripping Phillip as if he was holding a beast’s skin. Phillip struggled to break free from Cade’s strong grip.
“Let go! Rosaline! Knight! Call the knight! Where is my knight?”
“Why rebel like this? You should show an example in front of the crowd, so bugs like you won’t breed anymore,” Cade replied in a chilling voice, leaving everyone contemplative except the Balkan tribe.
“Are you insane? It’s me! Me, Phillip! Don’t you remember me? We’ve known each other since we were young!”
“If you want to see your mangled arm like a rag, keep resisting.”
Ignoring Phillip’s desperate cry, Cade pinned him to the ground. Phillip’s eyes widened as he let out a scream. Cherryl., holding Cade’s arm, looked up at him with a pale face. His cruel demeanor, seen for the the first time, was contradictory to the Cade she knew well. The merciless nature he displayed, destroying any part of the opponent’s body in his way, was exactly like the Cade she had seen in the past.
“cade, please stop! He is…” Cherryl desperately tried to stop him but she slipped and fell while hanging onto him helplessly. Just as she was about to fall into an embarrassing state, Cade swiftly grabbed her waist like lightning and lifted her back up, saving her from the disgraceful situation. Cade, who fixed his gaze on her pale face, remained motionless like a rock for a while. Slowly turning his head downward, he calmly looked at the prince’s face. Cherryl couldn’t gauge how much time had passed in the suffocating silence.
“Oh.” A dry voice uttered. “So, it was you and not some wandering thief. Phillip.”
Cade rose to his feet slowly, tossing the axe he had in his hand onto the ground. Phillip stared at Cade with a look of disbelief, unable to believe the recent turn of events.
“You didn’t know it was me?”
“You think I would have guessed that the man groveling at my wife’s feet was you?”
“Wha- Wait a minute! I even told you my name! Doesn’t that make sense? You do know my face!”
“You didn’t behave like a prince.”
“Enough!”
The man who had tried to cut his wrist earlier now looked relaxed and carefree, speaking in a leisurely manner. Was it possible that he really didn’t recognize Phillip? Of course not. The prince’s face, once full of fear, now contorted with anger. The sense of shame he had never experienced before slowly began to rise in Phillip, and he gritted his teeth.
For someone who had ruled over others’ lives from the top, this incident would undoubtedly become an unforgettable humiliation even if he died. Just then, the royal knights rushed in, surrounding him protectively. Cade glanced at them coldly.
Though they were dressed casually, the sound of heavy metal in their steps indicated that they were armed. Even Cade’s attendants, who were standing around like onlookers, quickly took defensive positions and stared at the knights.
“Ugh, damn it.”
In the tense standoff, Phillip suddenly realized that he had too many pairs of eyes fixed on him.
As he recalled the beast-like roar he had made in front of them, Phillip cursed himself for his obscenities. At that moment, Cade opened his mouth with a voice barely above a whisper.
“Not only did you mock my wife, but you also felt the need to threaten her. Why?”
The murmurs around them intensified. Phillip, who had been massaging his swelling arm, raised an eyebrow in surprise. The prince was considering how to retaliate against this situation. While Carlsvik had gained autonomy, it was still a territory not fully independent from the Empire.
Even if he was a duke, he could make the noble aristocrats, who held positions of authority, pay for their wrongdoings. However, there were many witnesses. Anyone with a bit of awareness in the crowd could recognize that the men causing the disturbance in the festival were the Grand Duke of Carlsvik and the prince.
The fact that the prince had laid hands on the duke’s wife had become known to quite several people, so his position was not entirely secure either. Cade’s words had quite an impact, and even two royal knights exchanged glances. It greatly irritated Phillip.
Unluckily, they were the knights following Rosaline. He thought he should dismiss those ungrateful and disloyal subordinates later. To calm the situation for now, the prince quietly flipped his hood over. He realized that it was useless to act all smug now, and Phillip spoke in his usual slow voice. “I guess the joke went too far. I didn’t mean for it to be like this.”
