Married To A Savage Duke - Chapter 81.2
Some passersby began to glance at them due to the unusual atmosphere. Cherryl stared at Philip’s palm with wavering pupils. Smooth and fair, it was a hand that had never experienced anything difficult in his entire life. Although it was rare to kiss a noble’s hand instead of bowing in greeting, kneeling was undoubtedly an unreasonable request. Cherryl was at a crossroads. Should she refuse him, or should she swallow her pride and comply with his demand? She was afraid that her improper behavior might negatively affect Cade, but she also disliked the idea of kneeling and kissing this despicable snake. The dilemma didn’t last long. If she, the Duke’s legitimate wife obeyed this unjust command in the middle of a crowded street, it might harm Cade’s reputation. In a calm voice, Cherryl spoke, “Your Highness. I apologize, but this seems like an excessive demand.”
“What did you say?”
Philip’s demeanor crumpled like a piece of paper. Despite being sufficiently polite, the twisted ruffian seemed unyielding. Cherryl continued firmly. “I am no longer a lady of the Milos family. I recently married into the Blkanov family and became the Duchess. It’s beyond absurd for you to curse me with commands and insinuate that I seduced the Duke. Furthermore, demanding that I kneel is crossing the line.”
Rosaline looked thoughtful as she gazed at Cherryl. Even the expression on Philip’s face, who was grinding his teeth, was unsettling.
“What if it’s not a request but an order? Do you have the audacity to refuse a prince’s command?”
“Well, I—————”
“If you don’t want to be dragged away like a common criminal, tarnishing the honor of the Viate royal family, then answer me.”
Philip’s hostility was evident as his blood-red irises glowed. Cherryl’s eyes trembled as she struggled to find words. At that moment, a large hand appeared from behind her and tightly grasped Philip’s outstretched arm.
“Aargh!”
Philip’s arrogant scream echoed like a reverberation. The sudden turn of events caught Cherryl off guard. Philip struggled to break free from the strong grip but to no avail. As Philip thrashed about in contrast to the composed figure holding him, Cherryl instinctively covered her mouth with both hands and looked at Cade, who had approached without her noticing, with astonishment.
“Let go of me right now! This is outrageous! Aaargh!”
“Why are you causing trouble on my land?”
Amidst Philip’s squawking, Cade spoke in a flat voice. A loud thud accompanied by a suspicious sound made Philip scream again. The passersby on the festival street began to circle them, murmuring.
“Duke!”
“Cade!”
Without hesitation, both the princess and Cherryl rushed forward to restrain Cade. His expression was emotionless, but his eyes displayed an eerie glint as if he had lost his sanity. Rosaline took a step back in surprise, but Cherryl grabbed his arm and shook him vigorously. Feeling the intense energy emanating from his solid body, she became fearful. Suddenly, she noticed the nearby presence of Viper, Roy, and even Cole and Axel, who had joined them at some point.
“We need to stop this————”
She sent them a desperate gaze, hoping they would intervene, but they only stood there, arms crossed, watching the scene unfold. Were they not aware of the seriousness of the situation? Cherryl felt a sense of frustration, unable to find the right words.
Half-dangling from Cade’s shoulder, she whispered anxiously into his ear, “This could become a huge problem! There are so many witnesses———-”
Cade seemed unyielding, but after her pleading, his imposing energy seemed to soften. He finally released Philip’s arm. Philip managed to keep himself from falling, but his attempt at regaining balance looked ridiculous as he stumbled a few times. Seeing this, Roy let out a light chuckle. With much effort, the struggling crown prince managed to wrap his wounded arm, which had been tightly grabbed by Cade’s powerful hand and bared his fangs. His eyes glared at Cade, a mix of pain and rage evident in his face.
“You! You think you’ll get away with this! How dare you!”
“A trash like you, who dares to make trouble for my wife, has quite a lot to say.”
Cade coldly retorted, turning his arm to shield Cherryl from view. Her broad back blocked Philip from her sight. Instead, his malevolent voice reached her ears.
“Are you out of your mind? A couple of impostors———— Who do you think you are to blabber about it like this!”
“Viper, go get an axe.”
Cade issued a sudden order, and Viper, without hesitation, pushed through the crowd and brought back an axe from somewhere. Feeling that the situation was spiraling out of control, Cherryl looked at Cade uneasily. His calm expression was now ablaze with an unsettling fire.
“Here in Carlsvik, there’s a punishment for mocking women. We cut off the wrists.”
As Cade received the axe, he grabbed Philip by the neck.
“Why… Why are you doing this??!!”
“Why? Because cutting off your dirty, useless hands is the better option.”
With icy resolve, Cade dragged Philip somewhere, as if he were dragging a carcass to the slaughterhouse. Despite being a considerable figure himself, the crown prince couldn’t offer any resistance. They reached a large tree stump, almost like an execution stand, where anything could be supported and cut.
“Since you’ve crawled onto my land, you might as well leave with useless wrists.”
Cade positioned Philip in front of the stump, firmly holding the axe. Throughout the whole process, he showed no hesitation or remorse.
