My Groom Ran Away - Chapter 40.1
When Ruan Zhiyin heard Cheng Yuelin’s words, she froze, then looked at Cheng Lang before she pulled Cheng Yuelin into the study.
After closing the door to the study, she raised her gaze to look at the man’s direct and probing gaze.
She took a deep breath and quietly said, “I need to tell you a few things. Can you not be angry?”
She could not guess what Cheng Yuelin’s attitude towards Cheng Lang would be, but when she went to pick up Cheng Lang in the afternoon, the Fang family’s nanny had treated Cheng Lang as a burden and quickly picked up her things and left. Ruan Zhiyin could not bear to leave a six-year-old child alone in an apartment.
Seeing her expression, Cheng Yuelin’s lips gave a slight smirk and he raised his eyebrows slightly. “What, why do you look so guilty? Could the child really be related to you?”
From his understanding, there were no children approximately that age within the Ruan family. As for her mother’s side, she only had an uncle who was a diplomat who was currently abroad.
“No.” Ruan Zhiyin shook her head and sighed. “I am not related to him, but… he is related to you.”
“Related to me?” Cheng Yuelin was silent and then lightly chuckled and casually said, “Then you can send him back.”
“I do not have any illegitimate children.”
Ruan Zhiyin met his confident gaze and she was suddenly reminded of Zhao Bing’s words. Then she raised a brow and said, “Oh? How can you be so sure?”
“How does this require a reason?” The man raised his chin and met her somewhat strange gaze. He frowned again and asked, “Ruan Zhiyin, why are you giving me such a look?”
Ruan Zhiyin put away the doubts in her heart and took a deep breath. “You’re thinking too much, this child is called Cheng Lang. He is… your father’s other son.”
Zhao Bing was only a few months pregnant when she divorced Father Cheng when he ran into trouble. Cheng Yuelin knew of Cheng Lang’s existence but he had never seen him before.
“Aunt Cheng intends to adopt him and asked me to bring Cheng Lang here temporarily and when the documents are processed, he will be sent abroad.”
“I originally planned to send him to my apartment, but the nanny from the Fang family was unreliable and I did not have time to hire another nanny.”
“So…” I could only bring him home.
After she explained all this, she tugged at the man’s sleeve and quietly said, “Cheng Lang needs to stay here for a few days. It is my fault that I did not talk to you about this first, please don’t be mad?”
Cheng Yuelin saw her little fingers tugging at his shirt cuffs and pressed them together. Then he slowly looked away. “Do I get mad that easily?”
“Hmm, you have a good temper.” Ruan Zhiyin looked at the man’s raised chin and could not help but laugh. “So… you’ll let him stay for a few days?”
Cheng Yuelin paused and looked down at her. Then he calmly nodded.
He was just going to live here for a few days. He was not so petty that he would be mean to a child, but she still had this attitude that she needed to go to war to face him.
After the matter was discussed, Ruan Zhiyin finally felt relaxed.
The two people opened the door and went downstairs. The kitchen contained the dinner that Ruan Zhiyin had prepared earlier.
The dishes were placed upon the dinner table and Cheng Lang carefully looked at Cheng Yuelin before he silently climbed onto the slightly too high chair, sitting on Ruan Zhiyin’s left side.
Ruan Zhiyin picked out a few pieces of meat for him and Cheng Lang ate with enthusiasm. Ruan Zhiyin did not have to worry about him.
The dinner table was peaceful.
After a while, Cheng Yuelin glanced at the food that Cheng Lang had quietly spat out and raised a brow. “Who allowed you to be picky?”
The man’s tone was cold.
Cheng Lang shrunk slightly into himself and lowered his head and quietly stuttered. “I… can’t eat ginger.”
Ruan Zhiyin glanced over and Cheng Lang had indeed spat out the ginger in the tomato beef brisket.
Cheng Yuelin was not a picky eater, but he did not enjoy eating ginger either. But when cooking, ginger was essential for removing the gamey taste in meat, so she would generally cut the ginger into large chunks so it would be easy for him to notice.
Cheng Lang did not know, so he thought the big piece of ginger was a piece of potato, after he placed it into his mouth, he spat it out.
Cheng Yuelin saw Ruan Zhiyin’s disapproving gaze and snorted and did not continue.
After eating, he started collecting the dishes and bowls as usual and he reached out for Ruan Zhiyin’s bowl. Cheng Lang saw this and carefully started to pass his bowl over.
Cheng Yuelin glanced at the bowl and glanced at Cheng Lang but he did not take the bowl.
In the next moment, the man raised an eyebrow and slowly said, “Little kid, you can’t just eat for free. Go to the kitchen and do the dishes.”
Cheng Lang pursed his lips and hugged his bowl as he followed Cheng Yuelin into the kitchen.
Ruan Zhiyin paused slightly and shook her head and followed the two awkward people into the kitchen. Cheng Lang was only six years old, the kitchen sink was a bit high, it would be a bit difficult for him to do the dishes.
However, Cheng Yuelin stood indifferently to the side and quietly stared at him.
Seeing that Cheng Lang was trembling as he stood there, Ruan Zhiyin sighed and comforted him. “Okay, don’t scare him anymore.”
The man did not say anything but he moved his gaze off Cheng Lang.
Cheng Lang carefully washed the dishes, his black eyes cautiously looked at Cheng Yuelin and trembled as he passed the dishes to the other person.
The man casually glanced at him and it scared Cheng Lang so much, he took back his hand.
Cheng Yuelin sneered and said, “So timid, who did you get it from?”
Then he took the bowl and put it away into the cabinet.
After washing the dishes, Cheng Lang lowered his head and looked at his wet sleeves. He timidly looked at Ruan Zhiyin, “Sister, I want to take a bath.”
After a few steps, Cheng Yuelin stood next to the door and crossed his arms and calmly said. “You’re so old already, you still don’t know how to take a bath?”
Cheng Lang bit his lip and quietly shook his head.
The man pursed his lips and said, “Don’t you know there’s differences between men and women? How can you let her give you a bath?”
After speaking, under Ruan Zhiyin’s helpless gaze, he took Chang Lang, who had tears in his eyes, into the bathroom.
The master bedroom’s door was not shut and after a while, Ruan Zhiyin heard the sounds of Cheng Lang’s crying and the man’s helpless and angry voice.
“Little brat, if you keep crying, I’ll throw you out right right now.”
Cheng Lang sobbed quietly. “Waaah, but my eyes sting too much.”
Ruan Zhiyin: “…”
Suddenly Ruan Zhiyin was worried about whether Cheng Yuelin would be okay, but it was not convenient for her to go in, so she could only wait at the door.
