My Rental Boyfriend Is My Boss?! - Chapter 32
Chapter 32. Just A Company Boss
“I’m sorry for the long talk at… It’s early in the morning, so get some rest.”
Before Michiru could even open her mouth, his eyes were turned away.
The chair creaked and Kamijemori stood up. He walked past Michiru and turned off half the lights in the room, as if to say that the conversation was over. If he goes straight to the computer, there’s no way Michiru can talk to him, so she did as she’s told and went under the covers.
Perhaps it was because she had talked to Kamijemori, but the things that had been keeping her sharp were gone before she knew it, and Michiru fell into a fitful sleep.
The next day’s work went without a hitch, and she was able to catch the bullet train home without delay.
Feeling proud of herself for having the best time allocation, Michiru walked through the half-filled train car to find her seat.
“Oh, here it is. Shall I put your luggage in?”
“No, I’ll go… by myself.”
As she said this, Kamijemori stopped his gaze behind Michiru. Then he quietly walked past Michiru and gave a hand to an old lady who was struggling to put her luggage on top.
“Oh, thank you. Thank you for your help.”
“It’s fine.”
The large bag, which must have been difficult to lift due to her small body and large luggage, was easily accommodated by the tall Kamijemori with just a little stretch of her arm.
The old lady thanked Kamijemori with a friendly smile and sat down on the opposite side of the aisle from where Michiru and the others were sitting.
The old lady thanked Kamiemori with a good-natured smile and sat down on the opposite seat across the aisle from Michiru’s. Kamijemori continued to carry Michiru’s bag and his own Boston bag and quickly took the window seat.
‘Hmm. Gentlemanly.’
Michiru thought about it, but she kept it to herself, because if she made a scene about it here, Kamijemori might think she was a nagging person.
The shinkansen soon began to move and Kamijemori opened his laptop so Michiru could write down the information she needed to give to Morishita.
On the way back, Michiru woke up to a gentle tap on her shoulder after a long day of wandering.
“I’m not asleep.”
“Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you.”
It was the old lady sitting across the aisle who tapped her shoulder. Michiru shook her head casually, wiping her mouth for immediate saliva.
“Here, if you want…”
She then offered her a lap blanket.
The window seat was too air-conditioned.
‘Window seat…’
Not only Michiru, but also Kamijemori was unusually dozing off.
It was a summer day today, as they say. It was probably because of this that the air conditioning was on in the shinkansen, but Michiru didn’t mind too much. Maybe it was because she was seated on the aisle.
‘Maybe that’s why he chose the window seat? Maybe I’m overthinking this… thing.’
Michiru didn’t know what Kamijemori really intended. But she thankfully borrowed a lap blanket from an old lady.
Yesterday, Michiru slept as she was told, and in the morning, when Michiru woke up, Kamijemori was already awake.
In his own way, he may have been too careful to rest last night. She put a lap blanket on him gently so as not to wake him up. His face looked a little young when he was sleeping.
Michiru had been too drunk to look at his sleeping face before, but now that she looked at him closely, his long eyelashes cast shadows on his cheeks, and his chest rose and fell slightly. It may not be a word you would use for a man, but he was pretty.
“You have a wonderful husband.”
“Heh, ah…”
Michiru was startled by the sudden call. Flustered, she turned around, hiding the guilt she felt for staring at his sleeping face.
‘Husband, huh?’
Michiru wondered if it looked that way from the other side.
It’s a bit scary when you’re up against Kamijemori. Michiru was almost, but not quite, happy. Slowly, she felt the urge to get carried away.
When Michiru realized this feeling, she hastily suppressed it. It was a feeling that she did not deserve.
So she turned to the old woman, smiled, and shook her head.
“He’s just the boss of the company.”
“Oh, I didn’t know that. I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine.”
He’s just her boss at work. And Michiru was his subordinate. That’s the truth.
It doesn’t matter how much it makes Michiru’s heart flutter.
‘Because this feeling is only for now.’
It’s a relationship that will end when the party’s over. So Michiru repeated the same words in her mind, as if she was telling herself that she was going to end it.
‘Minoru is just my boss at work.’
“…”
As she sat next to Michiru, Kamijemori’s eyelids trembled slightly as if he was lost in thought.
A few days later, on a Friday, the day of the party was coming up next week. Michiru confirmed her schedule with Kamijemori as usual. As usual, she thought, she should be able to take this Saturday and Sunday off like Michiru.
Unusually, however, Kamijemori replied that he had plans, and instead suggested an alternative date, Tuesday after work.
‘Minoru has plans too, right?’
So at that time, Michiru agreed to the idea without thinking too much about it.
“No, I really liked those shoes you just bought.”
“But I can’t afford those. Did you see the number of zeros?”
Sunday. Michiru, who didn’t have a date, went shopping with Chie from the accounting department.
She had been renting dresses every time she went out, but Chie told her to buy at least one dress since she was going to be invited to a lot of weddings anyway, so she came to look at dresses for the party next week.
“It would have gone with the dress you just bought.”
Chie couldn’t seem to forget the shoes she had just seen, and looked at the paper bag in Michiru’s hand with a disgruntled look on her face. Inside was the first dress of Michiru’s life, which she had chosen after trying it on for a long time.
It was a bright burgundy A-line dress. The belt with glittering bijoux at the waist mark fluttered just right, making the mime-length dress look elegant and a bit mature.
Michiru thought this would look good next to Kamijemori, who was tall and had good posture. She felt that the usual Michiru was a little too childish, even if you discounted the age difference.
Since it was her last date with Kamijemori, she wanted to dress up and be thought of as nice. That’s why Michiru splurged on a dress that she wouldn’t normally buy, but this time she did.
Of course she would meet Kato and Nakamura, but her main concern was what Kamijemori would think and how Michiru would look.
“That may be true, but you can’t dance.”
“If you’re taking a class, why don’t you at least ask to borrow my shoes?”
Chie did not give up easily. As Michiru was struggling to think of what to say to convince her, she suddenly saw something out of the corner of her eye.
‘…?’
It was a holiday, with lots of traffic and people, and her eyes fell on a man walking on the sidewalk on the other side of the road.
It only took a few seconds for Michiru to think that she had seen him somewhere, but a moment later, she immediately knew who he was. It was Kamijemori. And as soon as she realized that there was a woman next to him, Michiru stopped in her tracks.
