Demus was naked as he returned to the bed with a glass of water.

Even though he was glistening with body fluids, he was still stunning, and Liv watched him, mesmerized. And for a moment, it occurred to her that she might know why he enjoyed watching her naked.

Of course, her body was never as perfect as his.

“Thank you.”

Accepting the glass of water, Liv absentmindedly shifted her gaze. She saw Demus’ long legs as he sat down next to her. Strong thighs that invited attention, and knees below.

She hadn’t realized it because she’d never paid much attention to it during sex, but there was a very large scar in that place.

The scars on his upper body were all horrifying in their own way, but the long tear mark on his knee was particularly eerie. For a scar so clear and large, even though the injury had been so long ago, it was obvious how bad it must have been.

Demus caught Liv’s gaze and let out a low exclamation.

“Ah.”

Unlike the other scars, which he had told her about without being asked, Demus couldn’t easily tell her the story behind the knee scar. There was a hint of negativity in his eyes as he looked down at the scar with a furrowed brow.

Liv spoke up quickly.

“You don’t have to explain.”

Liv was curious, but she didn’t want to pressure him. After all, Demus had already been trying to tell her about himself more than enough. She didn’t want to risk ruining things when they were finally facing each other squarely.

Demus narrowed his eyes at Liv’s words. He paused for a moment, seemingly considering, and then slowly parted his lips.

“The last battle.”

It was different than when he had spoken of the previous battles. His tone was not the flat, unemotional voice that spoke as if it were someone else’s business, but rather a suppressed tone, as if he were recounting something that had just happened yesterday.

“…You must have been badly injured.”

“I was told that if the treatment had been delayed, I wouldn’t have been able to walk, but as it turned out, I recovered well.”

Although he lived with a cane, he was lucky to be able to go about his daily activities without difficulty. Hearing Demus’ words, Liv glanced at the scar on his knee. It seemed like there was more to it than just a scar from a bad injury, but she couldn’t bring herself to ask about it.

Sensing Liv’s hesitation, Demus twisted his mouth into a smile.

“Can I buy your sympathy if I tell you about this?”

“As I said, I’m…”

“It was an operation to ambush the enemy.”

Demus began nonchalantly.

“The village was burned, bombs rained down, and all that was left were the bodies of the refugees.”

Liv’s eyes widened in shock. Even though she’d lived her entire life far from the battle lines, she knew that soldiers didn’t casually harm civilians.

“Why…?”

“The commander, who believed false information, acted on his own initiative to gain merit. It was a trap, and we were the one ambushed. It ended with the aide removed from his position for failing to serve the commander properly.”

Demus’ explanation was concise. However, how could something as big as that be wrapped up so succinctly? Liv could only imagine the complexity of the omitted story.

If it was the final battle, then the aide who was removed from his position in that story was…

“I was just about to quit being that asshole’s aide, but it all went down the drain.”

Clicking his tongue, Demus glanced at the glass of water in Liv’s hand. Under that gaze, Liv emptied it, and he snatched the empty glass away from her and set it down on the side table.

With a clear intention, he slid his hand around Liv’s waist.

Seeing Demus so determined to continue where they left off, it was hard for Liv to be easily swayed.

“I’m afraid I’ve brought back some unpleasant memories.”

“Pity me if you think so. Even better if you keep me around and take care of me.”

Muttering softly, Demus buried his face in the nape of Liv’s neck. As he licked and sucked at the flesh, the chilled body began to heat up again.

The time of pleasure was not yet over.
