Anna began to “spread rumors” during her chat with the three maids in the afternoon.

Turning to the topic of literacy, Anna said: “I really want to be literate. I made this request to Young Master Parrish today.”

Anna was waiting for the rumors to ferment, while Rothgarr was waiting for Bobby’s persecution to take effect.

Slowly, Anna began to hear people whispering about her learning to read from Parrish.

Because Anna knew that the information, she had spread was false, she called it a rumor. But when it came to others, they didn’t know the truth, so to them, it was gossip. Gossip was always distorted in the process of its spreading. The version that Anna overheard in the mouth of a kitchen maid was that Young Master Parrish was teaching her literacy in order to make Anna a worthy person. When she became literate, they would get married.
