The Actor and His Three and Half Years Old Sister - Chapter 31.2
During the break, Chu Xiaoxiao didn’t want to be pursued by Chen Guangsu in the classroom, so she broke free and found Liang Shuangqi to play.
She pushed open the door to the music room and found Liang Shuangqi not playing the violin but doing something strange with his arms. He even stretched his body and started doing calisthenics, casually greeting her, “Hello, Xiaoxiao.”
Chu Xiaoxiao, curious, asked, “What are you doing, Brother Qiqi?”
Liang Shuangqi replied, “I’m balancing the strength in my arms. Otherwise, if I keep using one side to play the violin, my arms will become uneven.”
Chu Xiaoxiao widened her eyes in astonishment, “Can that really happen?”
Liang Shuangqi nodded earnestly, “Yes, you see, in ‘One Piece,’ there’s Luffy. Maybe one day, my arms will become incredibly long, and I’ll be able to touch the first floor while standing on the second.”
Chu Xiaoxiao imagined the scene in her mind and then showed a hint of doubt.
“… Are you trying to fool me?”
Chu Xiaoxiao might not have played the violin, but she wasn’t gullible.
Liang Shuangqi innocently blinked, showing both of his hands and said in a pitiful tone, “No, look, my hands are already different now. Maybe my arms will be different in the future too?”
Chu Xiaoxiao leaned in to observe and indeed noticed a difference in his fingers. Liang Shuangqi’s left hand had calluses from playing the strings, making it look different from the other.
Chu Xiaoxiao examined his palm and then glanced at her own, hesitatingly asking, “Why are your hands so big?”
Liang Shuangqi replied, “Because I play the violin.”
Chu Xiaoxiao extended her small hand and placed it in his palm for comparison, then gently touched the calluses, inquiring, “Doesn’t that hurt?”
Liang Shuangqi candidly admitted, “I don’t feel anything.”
Chu Xiaoxiao wore a pained expression and said with regret, “Does that mean I can’t learn to play a musical instrument? Because my hands are so small?”
Chu Xiaoxiao had not realized it before, but now she discovered how small her hands were, and she instantly looked disheartened, as if she had lost a skill point. Liang Shuangqi had larger hands, which allowed him to play the violin, and her brother, Chu Xiaoyi, also had larger hands, enabling him to play the guitar.
Chu Xiaoxiao, with her small hands, felt incapable of playing a musical instrument.
Liang Shuangqi asked, “Why do you want to learn a musical instrument?”
Chu Xiaoxiao replied, “So I can listen to beautiful music.”
Chu Xiaoxiao had been observing the other children in the orchestra recently, and each of them could play an instrument and even sing. They all had their own musical talents.
Liang Shuangqi pondered for a moment and earnestly dissuaded her, “Forget it, how about I play the violin for you to listen to? Learning an instrument can be tough, and you might even get scolded.”
Liang Shuangqi felt that Chu Xiaoxiao’s petite frame was too fragile, and he doubted she could endure the hardships of learning to play a musical instrument, let alone getting scolded.
Chu Xiaoxiao’s little face looked bewildered, and she asked, “Why would I get scolded?”
“?” Liang Shuangqi was equally puzzled.
Liang Shuangqi responded, “Who learns to play an instrument without getting scolded?”
At least he hadn’t heard of such a thing in the orchestra.
Children are naturally active and easily distracted by other interests. However, learning to play a musical instrument required daily practice and dedication. Even without external pressure, many would give up quickly. Liang Shuangqi was considered a disciplined child, but he still had moments of laziness, not to mention other kids.
Chu Xiaoxiao’s musical dream was instantly shattered, and she displayed a complicated expression. She then expressed her utmost confusion, “Have you all been scolded before?”
Chu Xiaoxiao wondered, “Am I the only kid in the world who hasn’t been scolded?”
Liang Shuangqi nodded and said, “Yes, but I only let my mom scold me because she suffered a lot giving birth to me, so she can scold me if she wants. I never let my dad scold me. He used to be a soldier, and I was afraid he might beat me to death.”
Chu Xiaoxiao’s impression of Liang Shuangqi became even more complex. He appeared to be such a cheerful uncle.
As they were chatting, a group of boys pushed the door open and entered the room.
It surprised them to see the unfamiliar Chu Xiaoxiao, and the leader of the boys exclaimed, “Wow, Liang Shuangqi, you’ve been hanging out with girls a lot lately, huh?”
Liang Shuangqi now had lunch with Chu Xiaoxiao and Yang Yin during lunchtime, so he wasn’t with the other kids in the orchestra, which naturally led to such comments.
A boy asked with a raised eyebrow, “Are you bored or something? Stop hiding here and play with us.”
Chu Xiaoxiao hid behind Liang Shuangqi, tilted her head to sneak a peek at the boys entering, and they all appeared to be around seven or eight years old, some even older. They were all taller than her.
The leading boy, upon seeing the fair and obedient Chu Xiaoxiao, curiously looked at her and asked, “Who’s this?”
Liang Shuangqi casually replied, “My little sister.”
Although I haven’t officially become a big brother yet, since her real big brother isn’t here, I might as well play the role for a day.
