The leading boy was taken aback, wearing a look of curiosity. He puffed out his chest and said, “Really? Is she also from our school? Then, I’ll protect you.”

Chu Xiaoxiao’s dictionary also lacked the meaning of “under the hood*,” so she didn’t quite understand the other boy’s triumphant tone or why she would need to be “under their hoods.”

“No wonder, I thought she wasn’t old enough to learn an instrument,” the leading boy said, taking out his phone from his pocket. He then waved it in front of Liang Shuangqi.

“Want to play PUBG together?”

Liang Shuangqi succinctly declined, “I won’t play.”

The boys huddled in a corner and started playing their games, chatting and laughing loudly. They were afraid of being caught by the orchestra teacher, so they played electronic games covertly. Liang Shuangqi’s practice room was one of their hiding spots, but they would probably move again soon.

“Is she your friend?”

Chu Xiaoxiao hadn’t interacted with older kids much before, so she asked with curiosity, “What does ‘hood’ mean?”

“No, she’s just from the orchestra,” Liang Shuangqi immediately distanced himself from the boys.

He sneered and commented, “She doesn’t play the violin very well, but she talks confidently.”

Chu Xiaoxiao blinked, thinking that Liang Shuangqi could be quite confident too, but he packaged it with a gentlemanly attitude and knightly spirit, not displaying rebellion openly.

Of course, he also didn’t seem to like it when others boasted or showed a superior attitude, but he maintained politeness on the surface while feeling quite disdainful inside.

However, as Liang Shuangqi was her friend, Chu Xiaoxiao wouldn’t expose him as long as he doesn’t treat her that way.

She asked, “Don’t you want to play with them?”

“No need. Our orchestra has a high dropout rate, and they might not even stay,” Liang Shuangqi seemed to have no regard for the boys.

Instead, he kindly suggested, “Do you want some water? I can get you a glass.”

Liang Shuangqi left the practice room to fetch water, while Chu Xiaoxiao looked around inside, observing the taller cellos. However, she was drawn to the sound effects of the boys’ video game. The boys didn’t mind her getting closer and even generously showed her the game screen, occasionally providing commentary, appearing excited as well.

Standing quietly on the side, Chu Xiaoxiao suddenly felt her vision go dark as someone covered her eyes.

Liang Shuangqi covered her eyes from behind and said earnestly, “Staring at the screen all the time will ruin your eyes.”

“Liang Shuangqi, it’s your eyes that will go bad!”

The leading boy immediately scolded him upon hearing his disappointing remark.

Liang Shuangqi didn’t care how much discontent he had caused; he covered Chu Xiaoxiao’s eyes and led her away from the lively game-playing boys. He removed his hands from her eyes, revealing a slightly mournful expression, and hesitated as he lowered his gaze.

“You actually like video games?”

Liang Shuangqi didn’t expect the boys playing games just a moment would draw away Chu Xiaoxiao after he left. She seemed quite interested in it.

Chu Xiaoxiao explained, “I’ve just never seen it before.”

She only used her iPad to watch cartoons and educational videos and had never played battle royale-type electronic games.

Liang Shuangqi, in contemplation, said, “I can’t believe you haven’t. Well, how about coming to my house? My dad is great at playing, and I play with him at home.”

Chu Xiaoxiao looked puzzled. “Aren’t you bad at it?”

She clearly remembered that Liang Shuangqi had just declined the boys’ invitation to play.

Liang Shuangqi responded, “I just don’t want to play with them because they’re terrible at it.”

Chu Xiaoxiao became even more puzzled. She thought boys were a kind of incomprehensible creatures who always did things she didn’t understand, just like Chu Xiaoyi and Liang Shuangqi.

When she played with Annie and Yang Yin, she never had such inexplicable questions; they got along harmoniously and happily.

Chu Xiaoxiao rested for a while in his practice room and then returned to class to continue their Latin lesson until lunchtime. She witnessed more of the boys’ perplexing behavior when she was stopped by Chen Guangsu, a classmate from the same class, who questioned her about her study secrets.

Chen Guangsu had suffered multiple defeats in Latin class, and with a furrowed brow, he intercepted Chu Xiaoxiao and asked, “Why are you learning it so fast?”

Chu Xiaoxiao responded earnestly, “But I already had two more classes than you.”

Chen Guangsu gritted his teeth and said, “No, that’s not it. I heard the content of the first two classes, and our progress must be the same!”

Chen Guangsu had only left the previous term’s course halfway, but that didn’t mean he had no prior knowledge; he hadn’t missed the topics that were currently being covered.

Chu Xiaoxiao fell into thought upon hearing this. She couldn’t comprehend her own exceptional progress, so she asked, “Then why are you learning so slowly?”

Chu Xiaoxiao had never asked such questions before because Annie and others had never asked her why she was good at something; they would just exclaim, “Xiaoxiao is so amazing!”

So, she had never pondered these issues before.

Chen Guangsu’s learning ability far exceeded his peers, and he was quite proud of his intelligence. He never expected that he would one day face such a heavy blow, not only being thoroughly outperformed academically but also being stabbed in the heart with the mocking question, “Why are you learning so slowly?”

Chu Xiaoxiao genuinely didn’t know, and she couldn’t explain why she was learning so fast. She could only counter-question why he was learning so slowly, hoping to solve the problem that way.

However, Chen Guangsu had been dealt a severe emotional blow. For the first time, he felt humiliated, and his eyes immediately welled up with tears.

He let out a heart-wrenching cry!

Chu Xiaoxiao looked at her crying classmate with confusion, wondering why boys were such inexplicable creatures who would throw tantrums and burst into tears at the drop of a hat.
