The Actor and His Three and Half Years Old Sister - Chapter 32.1
Chen Guangsu had always considered himself to be one of the smartest kids around, but today he was brought to tears by Chu Xiaoxiao’s intelligence, and he was crying so hard that he struggled to catch his breath.
When Yang Yin came to pick up Chu Xiaoxiao for lunch, she walked into a peculiar scene. A little boy was crying so hard that he seemed about to produce a river of tears, while a little girl stood there in confusion, looking utterly bewildered.
Yang Yin, holding lunch boxes, asked in puzzlement, “Xiaoxiao, what’s going on here?”
Yang Yin knew Chu Xiaoxiao’s personality very well. She was obedient and reasonable, and it was unlike her to get into trouble easily. However, Chen Guangsu’s appearance, crying as if he were about to faint, was truly unsettling.
Chu Xiaoxiao whispered, “I don’t know either. I was talking to him, and he suddenly…”
If it were Chu Xiaoyi who cried uncontrollably, Chu Xiaoxiao would know how to comfort him. That was because her big brother, when he cried, would always state the reason, such as “I’m so miserable” or “Xiaoxiao won’t eat the food I cooked,” giving her a starting point to resolve the issue.
However, when Chen Guangsu cried, he was genuinely crying, and he couldn’t even articulate the reason. This left Chu Xiaoxiao utterly baffled.
Seeing that Chu Xiaoxiao wasn’t lying, Yang Yin quickly stepped in to take on the role of comforting the child. Chu Xiaoxiao couldn’t comprehend Chen Guangsu’s logic, but Yang Yin knew some kids cried with no logical reason.
The priority was to stop their tears and figure out the rest later. They couldn’t have someone crying all afternoon, which would also make it impossible for Chu Xiaoxiao to leave.
The foreign language teacher and others had already left the classroom. In the end, Yang Yin, with the two kids, joined up with Liang Shuangqi as planned.
That morning, Yang Yin had specially made delicious red bean paste cakes. She made twelve, leaving three for her father and bringing the remaining nine to share with Chu Xiaoxiao and Liang Shuangqi. With three people and nine cakes, the original plan was disrupted.
With red-rimmed eyes, Chen Guangsu, still sniffling, ate the cakes. He had cried so hard that he couldn’t even eat properly, and he almost choked himself after devouring two red bean paste cakes in quick succession.
As the eldest sister in the group, Yang Yin, still somewhat alarmed, said, “Eat more slowly…”
Liang Shuangqi, looking curious, asked, “Who is this?”
Chu Xiaoxiao replied, “He’s my classmate from the Latin class.”
Chen Guangsu wiped his face clean of tears with his sleeves, and then patted off the crumbs from his mouth. He stared directly at Chu Xiaoxiao and declared with determination, “I will surpass you!”
Chu Xiaoxiao couldn’t comprehend his words, but Liang Shuangqi nodded and said, “In eating cakes, you’ve already surpassed Xiaoxiao.”
Xiaoxiao can only eat one cake each time, but this classmate who cried just ate two at once.
Chen Guangsu blushed and, full of ambition, clarified, “I mean I will definitely do better in studying!”
Chen Guangsu’s resolve left Chu Xiaoxiao speechless, as she couldn’t fathom why he had set such a goal.
Yang Yin was puzzled, but Liang Shuangqi, unphased, continued to challenge him, “What if you don’t?”
Chen Guangsu hesitated for a moment and then hastily said, “No, that’s impossible…”
“Guangsu, where did you run off to?”
A woman’s voice echoed from the corridor not far away, filled with anxiety.
“Mom…”
Chen Guangsu, who had just been happily eating his cakes, suddenly remembered his mother, who would come over every day to have lunch with him. Unlike Chu Xiaoxiao and Liang Shuangqi, who ate on their own.
Yang Yin followed him for a few steps, making sure that Chen Guangsu had left with his mother before coming back inside. She said, “He’s gone, let’s have our lunch.”
Chu Xiaoxiao nodded, and she carefully opened her Peppa Pig lunchbox. Yang Yin had already reheated it, so the temperature was just right now.
Liang Shuangqi gazed at the red bean paste cakes in his lunchbox and muttered, “The harmonious number is disrupted. I don’t like the feeling of seven divided by three…”
Chen Guangsu had eaten two cakes, leaving seven in his lunchbox, which the three of them would share. Liang Shuangqi was a peculiar child, always having various thoughts and insisting on perfect harmony. This might be a quirk of a young artist, always seeking perfection in everything.
Chu Xiaoxiao, upon hearing this, took out a plastic knife from her utensils and precisely cut the cake into three equal portions.
She said, “This should do.”
Liang Shuangqi’s eyes immediately lit up, clearly satisfied with the current situation, and he found the remaining cakes in the lunchbox more pleasing to the eye.
Observing her younger siblings’ actions, Yang Yin wore a hesitant expression but ultimately chose not to say much. In reality, she felt it wasn’t so troublesome.
Chu Xiaoxiao only ate one cake each time, and she usually brought extra cakes as reserve rations for the other kids, but they hardly ever needed them.
As expected, Chu Xiaoxiao ate 1/3 more cake than usual today. Yang Yin looked at the last remaining piece of cake and finished it on Chu Xiaoxiao’s behalf.
Curious, Yang Yin asked, “Xiaoxiao, why did he suddenly start crying over you?”
Chu Xiaoxiao recounted the incident that had taken place in the classroom. She still didn’t understand why she learned quickly, nor did she know what had triggered Chen Guangsu’s tears.
After hearing the entire story, Liang Shuangqi commented, “He’s so immature. I don’t like that.”
Chu Xiaoxiao asked, “Why?”
Liang Shuangqi had already finished eating and casually wiped his mouth before answering, “Because I dislike two types of people the most. One is those who have talent and exalt themselves, believing that everyone should be inferior to them.”
Chu Xiaoxiao was a few years younger than Liang Shuangqi and, being in a pure environment at kindergarten, didn’t understand many things yet. Liang Shuangqi had been practicing the violin in the orchestra, where the competition was extremely fierce, and talented individuals were constantly emerging. Therefore, he was more worldly-wise.
Chu Xiaoxiao blinked in confusion, still pondering whether Chen Guangsu had any talent and what that talent might be. Since encountering Chen Guangsu, she seemed to vaguely sense something but couldn’t quite grasp it. Her family had always followed Han Ya’s advice, never pointing out her hidden potential, so she had yet to realize her own abilities.
Yang Yin asked casually, “What about the other type?”
Liang Shuangqi replied, “The other type is those who deceive themselves when others have talent, thinking that others’ success is solely because of their talent.”
“The former is like Xiaoxiao’s classmates, who cry and make a scene at the slightest setback. The latter is like people in the orchestra who believe that my skill in playing the violin is solely because of my natural musical talent, without recognizing the time I spend practicing…”
Liang Shuangqi lowered his gaze slightly, speaking in a leisurely manner with a lazy tone.
“I always feel that others’ violins are more expensive, I always feel that others’ teachers are better, I always feel that others’ practice rooms are quieter, I always feel that others have more talent and skill. They find many excuses for their own failures, always having convenient excuses for not working hard. That’s the type of person I dislike the most.”
