Could you please be careful? (4)
On the day Erina crossed through the portal.
After closing the portal, Bella frantically piled books on the spot where Erina had disappeared. Though it wasn’t as if Erina could dig her way back up, Bella felt an unbearable anxiety unless she did this.
“Don’t come back. Never dare enter my world again!”
Bella’s arm froze mid-air as she hurled the books.
Chill.
A shiver ran down her spine, and a single bead of sweat traced her rounded cheek, gathering at her chin.
“…Kayle.”
Kayle stood outside the door.
He passed by Bella indifferently, then rummaged through the room as if searching for something precious lost. Under the desk, beneath the blankets, behind the curtains, he checked everywhere meticulously.
Then, noticing the pile of books Bella had amassed, he thrust a ball of fire upon it. The books were unable to escape the blazing flames turned to ashes, and those on the edges, spared direct contact, were scorched yellow by the intense heat.
‘I need to stop this!’
Bella wasn’t the only one feeling defeated. Nowhere in the temple, not even under the heaps of books, could Kayle find what he was looking for.
Kayle’s frantic search came to a halt as his hands fell limply. Only then did he notice the saint. Sweat stained her white robe and clung to strands of her hair, leaving marks all over her face.
Bella couldn’t call out his name or approach him. The cold fury emanating from him was more than she could bear.
“I regret this.”
Unlike Bella, who couldn’t catch her breath due to the overwhelming pressure, Kayle’s voice was flat and lifeless, as if he was a dead person.
He advanced. With every step, the ground trembled, space twisted, and the world seemed to turn ash-gray.
Despite the intense malice piercing through her, Bella didn’t back down. Cold sweat ran down her back , but she clenched her teeth and stood her ground with all her might.
‘I’m not a criminal!’
“Kuohk!”
“Why didn’t I kill you?”
Struggling to suppress as hard as he could only resulted in a dire situation. A giant silver cross attached to the altar fell on Bella and pressed down mercilessly.
Her limbs flailed in agony. The weight felt like it would burst her body open as she desperately tried to push the cross away.
But with no real physical strength to speak of, Bella’s efforts to move the cross were futile, unable to make any moment, let alone lift the cross.
“Ah-huh! Gasp.”
“What did you do to Erina, Bella?”
Tears streamed down the face of the pinned saint. Despite her screaming and pleading for the cross to be taken away, Kayle just stood there and watched Bella writhe in agony.
“Speak.”
Kayle’s voice was choppy, as if holding back something about to explode.
“Eri, na Holden…”
The saint bit her lip hard, trying to muster strength, causing a faint trail of blood to form around her cheeks.
“Has abandoned you, Kayle.”
Bang!
The cross that Bella couldn’t budge no matter how hard she pushed it flew out the floor-to-ceiling window with a mere gesture from Kayle’s finger.
Just as she thought she could finally breathe, a more severe pain arrived. Kayle threw a shard of glass on her hand.
“Aackk!”
The long shard cruelly pierced Bella’s fair and white hand, embedding itself deep into the wall behind her. She tried to pull it out, but the excruciating pain spreading throughout her body made her unable to do anything. She could only scream.
“Kayle!”
“What did you do to Erina!”
The fear was greater than the pain of flesh being pierced. She wished to be anywhere but in the presence of Kayle’s red glare. She wanted to tear her hand free and run.
Scary.
This was the first time seeing Kayle so enraged, Bella couldn’t believe he could act this way towards her, ‘Bella’. Her entire world was being brutally crushed.
“….Erina Holden is not from this dimension. She’s a stranger from another place!”
Behind Kayle, thick drops of blood began to fall. The viscous blood that soaked the floor from the solid ceiling moved as if alive. Soon a circular magic circle formed and flashed with a blue light. Then a dark entity inside, raised its head.
“Fenrir.”
Recognizing the creature, the saint who was trapped with nowhere to flee, scratched the wall with her remaining hand. Her nails came off, and blood pooled, leaving marks on the wall.
The wolf-shaped creature bared its vicious and sharp teeth through a mouth split wide open to its ears. With red eyes similar to Kayle’s, it looked excitedly ready to tear Bella apart. Showing interest only in killing and unmatched in brutality even in the demon world.
“Why, are you doing this, Kayle!”
“You’re going to die, Bella. And remember, even in hell, I’ll be there.”
“I told you, Erina Holden abandoned you! She knew I could open the portal and chose to return to her own world. You’ll never meet her again. She’s gone for good!”
Kayle raised his hand. Fenrir saw the signal and excitedly opened its mouth. Its upper jaw touched the ceiling, and its lower jaw was firmly fixed to the ground. The tongue thrashing wildly inside as if it was about to swallow the entire building in one gulp.
When Bella witnessed this, she shook her head violently and screamed Kayle’s name.
“Kayle, trust me! I have proof.”
Bella’s gaze fell to the floor. Unable to move because one arm was firmly pinned, she stretched out one foot and nudged something.
