Transmigrated into the Cannon Fodder's Daughter - Chapter 22.1

Madame Li’s slap undoubtedly confused everyone around her. When Zhan Jiayin and Li Nanjue were courting, she was treated poorly. But when they finally married, she was treated like a princess.
Zhan Jiayin’s cheek burned, and tears began to pour out of her eyes reflexively.
Qu Lian saw the aggrieved look on Zhan Jiayin’s face after she hit her. The fire in her heart started raging once again at that sight. Was Zhan Jiayin trying to tell everybody that she was bullying her with that expression? Zhan Jiayin should be ashamed of herself!
Although Qu Lian only planned to slap Zhan Jiayin once, she wasn’t satisfied. Might as well hit her some more and relieve the anger that stifled her heart.
Pa! Pa! Pa!
The sound invigorated Li Xiao, and she thought to herself, “Slap her some more!”
In response, Li Qianfei shrieked and rushed to shield her mom. “Grandma, what are you doing? Why are you hitting Mom?” And she was striking her mom! Zhan Jiayin’s cheeks were beaten silly.
Because of Li Qianfei’s sudden movements, Qu Lian lost her balance and stumbled backward. Her high heels didn’t help her regain balance, and she fell to the ground.
Madame Li sucked in a breath of cold air. The slightest movement from her foot was excruciatingly painful, making a cold sweat formed on her forehead. She had broken her foot when she fell.
Li Nanjue rushed over to help his mother.
Li Xiao also decided to help and scolded Li Qianfei, “Qianfei, how could you push Grandma? What if something happened to her? Why aren’t you apologizing to Grandma?”
Li Qianfei saw the person she despised the most was standing on the moral high ground and was scolding her. Her eyes reddened. Usually, she would’ve been the first to apologize, but Li Xiao’s words made her want to rebel. “I didn’t mean to. It was Grandma who hit Mom first. What did Mom do wrong? She usually treats Grandma with respect! But the first thing Grandma did when she came home was bully her.”
She even slapped her mother in front of everybody! Grandma was too merciless.
“Even if Grandma is in the wrong, she’s still our elder. You need to respect her.” Li Xiao reasoned, making Li Qianfei seem like she was in the wrong. Li Qianfei stumbled back in anger and gritted her teeth.
Li Qianfei’s uncooperativeness made Qu Lian’s chest rise and fall in anger. As expected, no matter how well Qu Lian treated Li Qianfei, she’d always think of her mother first!
Qu Lian pulled out a folded picture from her bag and threw it at Li Qianfei. Gnashing her teeth, she said, “You think I’m bullying your mom? Have you not seen all the awful things she’s done? She’s the Lady of the Li family but is messing around with other men outside.
“She’s corrupted and lascivious. Our Li family isn’t short of money, so why does she feel the need to go chase after other men? She goes around seducing men who are convenient for her. Does she take pleasure in making my son wear a green hat?
“Although Xu Manqin wasn’t good, she knew how to conduct herself. She would have never done something so disgusting.”
A relentless barrage of insults exited Qu Lian’s mouth. It was obvious that she had been withholding her anger for a long time.
The insults entered Zhan Jiayin’s ear and turned into a knife that slashed at her heart. The color drained from her face, and her limbs felt frozen. All she wanted to do was dig a hole in the ground and hide.
“N-No. Mom, listen to my explanation…” Zhan Jiayin’s voice was weak, and she seemed like she would faint at any moment.
Qu Lian coldly smiled. “How are you going to explain? Was it Ren Shaotang that seduced you? Then why don’t you tell him? If you tell him, I’ll believe you.”
Two women quarreled. One was his wife, and the other, his mother. And his mother was lecturing Zhan Jiayin on morals. Although Nanjue loved Jiayin, he wouldn’t stand by her side. It would only add fuel to the fire and further enrage his mother.
Unable to utter a word, Zhan Jiayin trembled. If it were a normal day, her complexion would’ve been white as paper, her eyes would turn teary, and she would’ve looked pitiful. However, currently, both her cheeks were beaten red, and if she continued to cry, she feared she would harm her eyes.
Li Nanjue unconsciously took a step back. “Mom, you just got off the flight. You should go rest.”
Although Qu Lian was angry, she didn’t want to embarrass her son. She obediently closed her mouth.
“Get the doctor to look at me first. I broke my foot.”
Li Xiao worriedly frowned. “I hope there’s nothing wrong. You can’t afford to be tossed around.”
Qu Lian looked at Li Qianfei who was staring at the photo in a daze. She couldn’t help but scold her one last time. “Ungrateful child.”
Qu Lian used to find all sorts of faults in Xiao Xiao to please Li Qianfei, but it turned out Li Qianfei still favored her mother. It was Li Xiao who knew how to care for Qu Lian in the end.
On the other hand, Li Qianfei couldn’t care less about her grandmother. As Li Qianfei looked at the pictures, the color drained from her face. Now, she finally understood why her mother and father’s atmosphere was so tense when she returned home.
So that was how it was.
Uncle Ren was no stranger to Li Qianfei. Before she had returned to China and met her father, Uncle Ren often took care of them. It could be said that Uncle Ren satisfied Li Qianfei’s longing for a fatherly figure. Furthermore, she knew Uncle Ren liked her mother. So much so that he still hadn’t married. But Li Qianfei never saw this as a problem. Her mother was nice, so she had an admirer. What was the big deal with that? All these years, Uncle Ren had stifled his feelings but treated Li Qianfei as his daughter. She couldn’t bear to see him being thrown under the bus.
Before Dad got married to Mom, he had no shortage of people around him and even fathered Li Xiao with Xu Manqin. In comparison, Mom hadn’t done anything wrong. She had just given someone a hug. Dad was too petty.
But Mom and Uncle Ren had been too careless to be caught red-handed like this. The picture was so clear that it would undoubtedly lead people to draw their own conclusions. There wasn’t a viable excuse.
The stereotypes of the previous generation persisted in Grandma, which was why she couldn’t accept it.
“Mom… You…”
Li Qianfei wanted to say something, but she didn’t know what to say.
Zhan Jiayin couldn’t help but lower her head in front of her daughter. “Fei’er, there’s nothing between Uncle Ren and I.”
“I know. If you really wanted to be with Uncle Ren, Dad would’ve never gotten the chance to be with you,” Li Qianfei hurriedly said.
Zhan Jiayin had feared that her daughter would despise her after this incident. When she heard Li Qianfei’s heartfelt words, her eyes reddened. “But none of them believe us.”
“They’re the ones imaging something inappropriate. You and Uncle Ren are innocent and honest. You’ve always been like that. It’s them who are thinking of nonsense.
“Mom, you’ve done nothing wrong. They’re just too narrow-minded.”
Zhan Jiayin was so focused on comforting herself she didn’t realize Li Nanjue had left her behind.
