Lin Zhaoxi’s face contorted. She thought that Li Nanjue had cheated on one person at most, but it turned out that he had cheated on six? And she was the seventh?

 Qu Lian, on the other hand, was surprised, “You’re pregnant with my son’s child?”

 Lin Zhaoxi turned her head, “It was just an accident—a careless accident.”

 Qu Lian didn’t care if it was an accident or not. She had heard everything she wanted to hear. Just a few minutes ago, she had considered Lin Zhaoxi rude, but now Lin Zhaoxi looked a lot better in her eyes. Qu Lian grinned and began calculating the future: Lin Zhaoxi attended a prestigious school, meaning she was rather intelligent, so her child is more likely to be smart.

Li Nanjue felt conflicted. He looked into Lin Zhaoxi’s eyes with scrutiny, doubt, and a touch of joy.

Hesitantly, he opened his mouth and said, “Since it is my child, I will take responsibility.”

“Yes, yes, yes! How could we neglect any one of the Li bloodlines? Don’t worry, I will take good care of you,” Qu Lian said.

Qu Lian felt that her deadbeat of a granddaughter, Qianfei had finally done some good by bringing Lin Zhaoxi. She showed Li Qianfei the first kind smile of the night, “Qianfei, it’s all thanks to you. I’ve heard that you have been taking care of her all this time? You’re finally maturing.”

Li Xiao almost laughed out loud. Qu Lian’s words were not a compliment; they were an attempt to hurt Li Qianfei.

Qu Lian’s harsh words finally snapped Li Qianfei out of her petrification.

“Impossible!” Li Qianfei’s pale face couldn’t be concealed by her recently applied makeup. She looked at Lin Zhaoxi, “Is the child in your belly really my father’s?”

Li Qianfei desperately wanted to convince herself that it was all a lie, but her mind relentlessly replayed the words Lin Zhaoxi had said to her before. Those words were strung together in a thread, pointing to a certain truth that she didn’t want to accept.

 “He already has a wife and children, and I don’t want to disturb his family. The two of us were just an accident.”

“…I don’t want to get involved in his family. I choose to keep this child, I just hope that there will be a relative who is connected with me in this world.”

How ridiculous! Li Qianfei had thought that the child Zhaoxi had been talking about was her. She had thought Zhaoxi had been pursuing justice for her. Qianfei had seen her as her own mother: pitiful, lovely, and self-empowered. In the end, Zhaoxi had been talking about the child in her stomach!

 Li Qianfei’s eyes dripped with spite and her voice came out in choked sobs, “Tell me…is it true?”

 Lin Zhaoxi looked at her sadly. “I don’t want to hurt you, Qian Fei. You’re my best friend. I originally didn’t want to come over, but I couldn’t find a reasonable reason to refuse.”

Li Xiao couldn’t believe her ears. The only person Lin Zhaoxi could fool with that excuse was an absolute dumbass. She could’ve used plenty of other excuses. If only she’d just said that she didn’t want to move around too much with the fetus in her stomach. Lin Zhaoxi’s visit today was simply to advance the status of herself and her child.

“Fei’er, at that time, I was drugged,” Li Nanjue said.  “That’s why I accidentally had sex with her. After that, Lin Zhaoxi never came to find me. She had no impure intentions.”

Li Xiao grimaced. What a moron! Who did they think they were fooling? Li Nanjue had already dug Zhan Jiayin’s grave. How could he still have so much self-confidence?

Lin Zhaoxi lowered her eyes, revealing a stubborn and stoic expression. “This child is mine. I won’t let you have it!”

“I will not let my child suffer outside of our family.” Li Nanjue seemed unwilling to back down as well. Conversely, Li Nanjue’s respect for Lin Zhaoxi seemed to have deepened. Unlike the other six women who were tempted by the Li family’s money, Lin Zhaoxi was not.

“Yes, look at Qianfei. She suffered greatly outside of the protection of the Li family. Dad feels sorry for her, so he won’t let another child suffer through the same thing,” Li Xiao nodded.

Li Xiao, herself did not understand the logic of this statement, but it didn’t matter as long as others could understand it.

“Yes, yes, that’s the truth,” Qu Lian nodded.

Li Qianfei felt as though she were soon to collapse. Her entire body was covered in goosebumps. Never before had she felt so awfully alone in this family.
