Escaping the Archduke of the North's Obsession - Chapter 109.2
A temple spirit was as precious as wizards, and she was contracted to Queen of the Fire Spirits, too.
The Emperor was already fearful of Duke Kyar’s power.
IIf he figured out that Isabella could control the fire spirits, the North would have to be vigilant.
“Yes, I will.”
“No one else knows about your abilities, right?”
Seria came to mind, and Isabella nodded.
“Oh, there’s one. Princess Seria knew about it.”
Duke Kyar’s brows furrowed the instant she mentioned Seria’s name.
“How did Princess Seria know more about you than I do? Come to think of it. In my dream, Seria was an employee at Rubella Castle who worked for you in the past. I remembered you saving her because she also lost her memories. You also gave her Ria’s name, am I right?”
Isabella winced at Duke Kyar’s question.
“Yes, you’re right. That ‘Ria’ was Princess Seria. Like me, she also didn’t forget about the past. She isn’t contracted to any spirits, but she must have been born containing the same energy. That is why her memory was not erased.”
Duke Kyar’s head throbbed that he had to massage his temples with his fingers.
“So the woman–who had lost her memory and worked for you at Rubella Castle–was originally Princess Seria of the Lilith Kingdom? The heinous princess who ran away after she was caught poisoning her brother, the crown prince?”
“That’s what people say, but it isn’t true, Your Highness. It is a scheme devised by a horrible stepmother who hated Princess Seria. And you know what? That scenario isn’t going to happen now.”
“Since she got engaged to Raphael, she avoided that fate.”
Duke Kyar frowned in disapproval.
“Princess Seria didn’t just use Duke Victor to avoid that, alright? You must have realized from your dreams that Duke Victor was already interested in Princess Seria from the start. If you knew and believed that in the first place, Duke Victor must have helped Princess Seria when she asked for it.”
“Well, their issues are none of my business. I was more concerned about you lying to me about living in the Lilith Kingdom.” Duke Kyar said sharply.
Isabella lowered her head to apologize to the sulking Archduke.
“I’m sorry for lying to you, but my intentions were pure, Your Highness. I wanted to be near you somehow, even if you couldn’t remember me. That’s why I participated in the archery competition. My goal was to win and be chosen as a knight so that I could stand right next to you all the time.”
“Well, I’m glad you didn’t win. Do you know how dangerous the Dark Forest is?”
Even amid Duke Kyar’s confusion, Isabella smiled when she noticed that he still worried about her safety.
He cared about her.
“Are you all right now, Your Highness? Did the things I told you have sunk into your brain?”
“No. Honestly, I don’t know what’s what yet. I need time to organize my thoughts alone.”
Isabella understood that he needed space, and she would have done the same.
How many people could believe this nonsense?
Still, she was grateful that Duke Kyar was willing to understand him somehow.
” Come and see me after sorting your thoughts out. I’ll be waiting in my room, Your Highness. If you have any further questions, you can always call me.”
Isabella was disappointed that they couldn’t even spend the Archduke’s birthday together.
However, after telling him everything that happened in the past, her mind became more relaxed.
Duke Kyar would never be jealous of her past lover anymore.
**
Duke Kyar was left alone in his bedroom, clenching his fists as he recalled his dreams.
It was strange how he felt jealous of his past self, who had memories with Isabella that he couldn’t even remember.
“He loved me more than anyone else in the world. He promised to give me whatever I wanted even if he had to pick all the stars in the night sky.”
Duke Kyar recalled the excitement in Isabella’s voice when she told Evan about her past lover.
His past self in his dream looked like the perfect person for Isabella, and he had frowned at his impatience to do anything for her.
He also remembered Isabella hiding in the mountains out of jealousy when the Emperor sent a woman who looked exactly like his mother for him to marry.
It was a shame that he hadn’t witnessed it himself because he had forgotten all of it.
Yes, she gave him some nutritional supplements, but why didn’t she give him the wish coupon she had bestowed on his past self?
Isabella might not love who he was now, but who he used to be.
“Preposterous! What am I supposed to do if I’m jealous of my past self?” Duke Kyar laughed bitterly.
He should have been relieved that he was the one she missed so bad, but jealousy had reared its ugly head, weighing heavily on his mind.
At this rate, he would be the one to drive himself crazy.
