I Became a Guide For My Childhood Friend - Chapter 109.1
Joseph couldn’t sleep well because of dealing with that matter. He met several people and sometimes he had to resort to threats to persuade those who didn’t listen, ultimately managing to bring almost all investors to his side. Of course, there were one or two individuals who weren’t able to recover their investments, but that was just the mischief of troublemakers who enjoyed causing trouble.
“But when did these people become like this?”
Hevid had kidnapped Marquis Lecardo’s wife. It could be inferred that this assignment from the Marquis was related to that incident.
“They’re not decent people either. They don’t even know what their son did…”
It was also like a bolt from out of the blue for the Duke and Marquis Lecardo and his wife, who did not know about what Diego Hevid had done. Although some businessmen suddenly withdrew their investments, they might have inquired about the reasons and eventually find their way here, but it wouldn’t make a difference.
“He sent quite a few letters, but he hasn’t been seen at the door since yesterday afternoon. He caused quite a commotion, demanding to meet the Marquis and the Marchioness….”
The butler pressed his eyes tightly as if even thinking about it made him tired.
“What did His Excellency say?”
“He said it seems to be related to the Marchioness and advised to leave it alone.”
“That’s what I thought.”
Duke Lecardo didn’t care much about his reputation. His son was the same. It was only this lowly butler who was worried about Lecardo’s reputation.
“What did the Marchioness say?”
The butler looked at Joseph as if looking at a savior.
Joseph raised the corners of his mouth helplessly and nodded. “She didn’t say anything.”
“What? She said nothing?”
“Yes. So, I don’t know what I should do either.”
Joseph recalled Cassian, whom he saw at Pruna’s villa last night. His face was filled with anger as if he could kill everything in front of him instantly if he had just uttered just one sentence.
‘Should I just kill him?’
And so, Joseph couldn’t ask any further. It seemed like something his master would do if he couldn’t find Yernia. The two exchanged glances and sighed at the same time. They were the ones left to deal with the headache.
Juliet, the daughter of Pruna’s only grocery store owner, blushed. She felt such a blissful feeling she had never experienced before in the world. Juliet couldn’t meet the deep blue gaze of the black-haired man who seemed to have a halo above his head.
“This puppy?”
“Yes? Ah, yes. Yes.”
The man bent down to see the puppy, and Juliet, who was holding the puppy, didn’t know what to do when he approached her.
“Would you like to hold it?”
“Is it alright?”
“Of course! You can take one with you. This puppy has been causing a ruckus every time! I only fed it a few times, and then it suddenly gave birth here…”
Juliet had only taken care of the dog out of pity. The dog that suddenly appeared in this rural village was not an ordinary Pruna village dog. It seemed to be a good breed from its appearance alone. It had a different look, and shiny fur, and seemed intelligent enough to know how to take care of its waste. Juliet assumed that someone had abandoned and left the dog. She took pity on the dog and secretly fed it, avoiding her mother’s watchful eyes. Since she didn’t have money to buy dog food, she would sneakily bring carrots and other ingredients to feed it. Then one day, it gave birth behind the grocery store. Juliet kept this fact hidden. She would cross her arms in front of her mother, preventing her from going to the back of the building. The dog lived under Juliet’s care for about a month after giving birth, despite her numerous efforts. But eventually, her secret was discovered.
“Juliet, what on earth are you thinking? We can’t even feed our family properly, and now we have to take care of the dogs? I regret meeting your father. Stuck in this rural village, unable to leave, and now we have to take care of dogs too.”
Her mother knew all too well about the hardships she had gone through since giving birth to Juliet, so she couldn’t argue back. Now, Juliet was holding the pitiful puppies while sobbing uncontrollably after being told to get rid of the dogs.
“You didn’t open the door today?”
She heard a man’s voice and ignored it, but the man walked towards her. He must have heard the puppies’ whimpers and Juliet’s cries. When Juliet faced the man, tears filled her eyes. He was the most handsome man she had ever seen in her life.
